1 Young Israel of Greater Cleveland June 2018 Newsletter-Sivan/Tammuz 5778 Dear Member, From the Rabbi s Shtender I hope everyone had an enjoyable and inspiring Yom Tov of Shavuos. Looking back over Yom Tov in our shul, it was a very meaningful experience. Our all night learning program run by our Kollel was very well attended. Participants enjoyed the shiurim given by members of the Kollel, as well as chavusa learning. You know the program is successful when you have to add tables and chairs! Our eighth annual Shavuos Medical Panel was a great success, both in terms of the overflow crowd that attended, and the enthusiastic discussion and interest in pursuing more information, that it engendered. Those in attendance on Yom Tov heard that our appeal at Yizkor was for the refurbishing of a Sefer Torah in memory of Mendy Klein, zt l. Mendy was so helpful and supportive of our shul, that we thought it would be an appropriate way to perpetuate his memory. Many of you already made pledges. If you did, we ask you to please redeem your pledge as soon as possible. If you didn t already make a pledge, please consider doing so. Please send your donation to our office with a note in the memo that it is for our Sefer Torah project. We would like to start the project soon and complete it in a timely manner. To tell each morning your kindness and Your trust in the evening. The significance of this prayer is not apparent until it is compared to a statement by a famous philosopher: Hope is a good breakfast, but a bad supper. According to this secular philosophy, a day in which one s efforts have not been successful is a bad day. Our values are different. We can only put forth effort, but we cannot control outcome. We express gratitude to Hashem in the morning for His giving us another day of opportunity. At night we express hope and trust that He will give us yet another chance tomorrow.
