1 SLBC Faculty & Presenters Dr. David Ackerman Dr. David Ackerman, Director of the Mandel Center for Jewish Education, has over 25 years of experience in Jewish camping. He received his Ph.D. in Special Education at UCLA and was instrumental in establishing numerous programs for Jewish children with disabilities. He has worked in all levels of formal and informal Jewish education from early childhood through graduate teacher training. He lectures widely on Israel, prayer and spirituality, children with special needs, and the arts in education. Prior to coming to the MCJE, David was the Director of Educational Services at the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Los Angeles. Ellen Allard Ellen Allard, multi-award winning recording artist, composer, performer, and educator, is one of the most popular and influential children s musicians and educators of today s vibrant Jewish Early Childhood music scene. With over 30 years experience performing and teaching for young children and their grownups in both the world of secular and Jewish music, Ellen s catalog includes 14 recordings and 7 songbooks, a growing library of over 250 songs that she has composed, and 28 recordings and 10 books by other publishers that include her music. Ellen draws on a rich tradition of musical experiences in presenting her lively and captivating performances, keynotes and workshops for family audiences and educational conferences across the United States, Canada and abroad. Ellen is certified to teach Baby/Toddler Yoga for babies through 2 year olds, and Kidding Around Yoga and Yoga Yeladim for 3-12 year olds. Blessed with two beautiful adult daughters, two sweet sons-in-law, and three delicious grandsons, Ellen makes her home in Brookline, MA. Rob Aronson Rob Aronson has been coming to SLBC since Outside of his career as a Financial Advisor, Rob has been a part-time Cantorial Soloist/Songleader at Congregation Temple Israel in St. Louis since Playing Jewish music has been a passion for him ever since. Rob has been enjoying his role as host of SLBC Live for the past few years and loves to see all of the talent that is showcased at SLBC! Noah Aronson After earning a degree in Jazz Composition and Piano from Berklee College of Music, Noah held the position of Composer-in-Residence at Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, Massachusetts where he produced four albums of Jewish communal music with his mentor Cantor Jodi Sufrin. As a solo musician, Noah has released two full-length albums and songbooks; music from these albums is now sung in progressive communities and summer camps worldwide and has been included as part of the Cantorial curriculum at the Hebrew Union College Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music in New York City. Noah serves on the faculty of the annual Hava Nashira and Shabbat Shira workshop in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and the Shirei Chaggiah workshop in London, England. In 2015, Noah partnered with Berhman House, the largest distributor of Jewish educational materials, to create an innovative, music-based curriculum entitled Hebrew in

2 Harmony. His music has also been featured on two compilations from the PJ Library series. Noah lives in New York City and is currently serving as the Creative Director of Sacred Music NY, a non-profit organization that organizes concerts and events around New York City bringing together spiritual musicians from diverse backgrounds to inspire interfaith dialogue and social change. Amy Bergman Amy Bergman has worked in both the business and the nonprofit sectors for nearly 20 years. Amy received her bachelor degree in marketing from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She currently serves as the Director of Jewish Family Life at the Friedman Commission for Jewish Education in the Palm Beaches. There, she oversees her community s PJ Library program, in addition to her work as a concierge connecting young families raising Jewish children to local synagogues and institutions. Amy has designed and created educational traveling curriculum projects for her community, bringing PJ Library s main characters alive in interactive kits with rich curriculum enhancement materials and resources. In her spare time, Amy also works in the PJ Library Home Office Community Engagement Department as part of a team dedicated to building a cooperative network among a cadre of more than 200 PJ Library Program Professionals around the world while designing relevant resources to support them. Previously, Amy worked as a program director at the JCC where she supervised the cultural arts, special events and adult departments. Rabbi Sharon Brous Rabbi Sharon Brous was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2001 and received a Master s Degree in human rights from Columbia University, where she also received her Bachelor s Degree in As a rabbi, she found herself drawn not only to those already invested in Jewish life, but also to the deeply disaffected, folks who wouldn t even walk in the door. In 2004 Rabbi Brous, Melissa Balaban and a handful of young entrepreneurial Jews set out to build IKAR, a laboratory for bold, imaginative Jewish practice which quickly became one of the fastest growing Jewish communities in the country and a model for inspiring Jews from the most marginalized to the most engaged. Since then, Brous has been recognized as one of the nation s leading rabbis by Newsweek/The Daily Beast and among the 50 most influential American Jews by the Forward. In 2013 she topped The Daily Beast s list, which credited her with reanimating Jewish community and re-energizing prayer at a time of growing disaffection and declining affiliation. In 2013 she blessed President Obama and Vice President Biden at the Inaugural National Prayer Service. She sits on the faculty of the Hartman Institute-North America, Wexner Heritage and REBOOT, and is a Senior Fellow at Auburn Theological Seminary. She serves on the International Council of the New Israel Fund and rabbinic advisory council to American Jewish World Service. Before moving to Los Angeles, where she now lives with her husband and three children, she served as a Rabbinic Fellow at Congregation B nai Jeshurun in New York City. Joe Buchanan Joe Buchanan is an Americana singer-songwriter from Houston, TX who converted to Judaism and found his voice in the values, history, and Torah of the Jewish people. He has since written an album, toured around the US, and shared a love of this new life through music. Combining elements of country, roots-rock, and folk, Joe s music reaches deep to tell personal stories of struggle and triumph. This is feel-good, toe-tapping, Americana with a Jewish Soul. From Shabbat services to concerts, Buchanan visits communities across the United States and shared a love of Judaism, prayer, and connection to GD and each other. His debut album, Unbroken, is filled with music that speaks to the incredible beauty of finding a home after a lifetime of searching.

3 Neshama Carlebach Neshama Carlebach, a leading superstar in Jewish entertainment, is continuing the legacy established by her father, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. Neshama's talent and charisma captivate and endear her to people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds. Neshama has performed and taught in cities worldwide, has sung on the Broadway stage, has sold more than one million records, and was a six-time entrant in the 2011 Grammy Awards. Neshama was one of the creators of the Broadway play "Soul Doctor." Her ninth recording, Soul Daughter, features performances by the original Broadway cast of the musical. Neshama is currently touring with a new band and gospel choir and joyfully raising her two sons, Rafael and Micah. Cantor Ellen Dreskin Cantor Ellen Dreskin is an innovative leader in today s Reform movement. Her expertise extends from music to synagogue transformation, from experiential education to enlivened liturgy and mysticism. She has worked with Jews of all denominations from Houston to Chicago and Los Angeles to Boston, both as a scholar in residence and in her capacity as past Director of Programs for Synagogue 2000, a national, not for-profit institute dedicated to revitalizing and re-energizing synagogue life in North America. Ellen has served as Cantor and Educator for congregations in Cleveland and New York, and has taught for many years on the faculty of URJ Summer Kallot, Hava Nashira, and the URJ Kutz Camp Leadership Academy. She is a native Texan, a graduate of HUC-JIR School of Sacred Music, has a Master s Degree in Jewish Communal Service from Brandeis University, and is proud to have received her honorary Doctorate of Music from Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion. Hazzan Joanna Dulkin A rising star in the national arena, Joanna Dulkin has served as Hazzan of the Jewish Center of Princeton, NJ, since A master songleader and music educator, Joanna has over 20 years of experience working with children and families in congregations, schools and summer camps throughout the U.S., including Ramah Darom, Wisconsin, and Poconos. She is a graduate of the H.L. Miller Cantorial School at JTS. Joanna has been a featured concert performer and prayer leader at congregations and conferences throughout the US and Israel. She is the Treasurer of the Cantors Assembly, serves on the faculty of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and was on the editorial board of Siddur Lev Shalem. She is also a published writer and an award-winning composer. Joanna grew up on the west coast and is an honors graduate of Stanford University, where she studied English, sang a cappella, and led community High Holiday Services. She lives in Princeton, NJ, with her husband Rabbi Dr. Ryan Dulkin, their two sons, and two dogs. Cantor Ron Eichaker Cantor Ronald Eichaker has served as Cantor of United Hebrew since August He entered Northern Illinois University in 1974, majoring in music education and vocal performance on a full athletic scholarship in Track and Field. Subsequently, he enrolled at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and received the Diploma of Hazzan in Prior to coming to UH, Cantor Eichaker served Congregation Emanu-B ne Jeshurun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 16 years. Over the years, Cantor Eichaker has pursued and implemented a broad array of programs and initiatives that may appear outside the realm of the standard cantorate. His Whole Life approach to Jewish living, learning and expression is expressed through his interests in World Music, culinary anthropology, classical Jewish philosophy and liturgy through various modes of educational strategies. Cantor Eichaker has a warm and beautiful voice, and has dynamic skills as Hazzan, as teacher, and as a communicator with children. He is a highly skilled guitarist and percussionist, and interestingly, has competed on an international level in the javelin throw! He and his wife, Heidi, are the parents of two wonderful daughters, Lauren and Lindsay.

4 Rabbi Brad Horwitz Rabbi Brad Horwitz has directed the JCC Helene Mirowitz Center of Jewish Community Life, supervising all JCC Jewish adult, cultural, senior services, community and family education programming since He graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York in In addition to his rabbinic ordination, he earned a master s in Jewish Education (MJE) and has leadership experience at many Jewish camps and day schools. As a graduate of the Day School Leadership Training Institute, Brad is well versed in Jewish educational leadership in both formal and informal settings. He has particular expertise in prayer education and is the author of With All Your Heart: A Weekday Siddur that is currently in use at over 50 Jewish schools and religious institutions worldwide. Rabbi David Ingber Rabbi David Ingber was named by Newsweek as one of 2013 s top 50 most influential rabbis in the United States as well as by The Forward as one of the 50 most newsworthy and notable Jews in America. David promotes a renewed Jewish mysticism that integrates meditative mindfulness and physical awareness into mainstream, post-modern Judaism. A major 21st Century Jewish thinker and educator, he has shared his rich perspective, open heart and mind, and full-bodied approach to Jewish learning across the globe. Rabbi David s distinct approach to Torah, rabbinical teaching and ritualistic practice is informed by his own personal seeking and learning from a wide cross-section of sacred traditions and faiths. Prior to founding Romemu, David was Rabbi-in-Residence at Elat Chayyim Retreat Center. Billy Jonas Billy Jonas is a songsmith, multi-instrumentalist, Jewish educator, and interfaith advocate. Since 1987, he has captivated audiences worldwide, using voice, guitar and industrial re-percussion (instruments made from found objects). He currently tours with his voice and percussion quartet, The Billy Jonas Band. Billy s work at Temple Beth HaTephila in Asheville, NC, inspired his first Jewish-focused CD habayta (homeward) which came out in November Jonas has also created general audience and family oriented CDs /DVDs, which have received multiple awards, including a First Place/Gold from American Federation of Independent Musicians, and multiple Parents' Choice Gold awards. He lives in Asheville, NC, with his wife, Adrian, daughter, Laila, wonderdog Beeka, teenage mutant ninja cat Bohdi, and a big garden. Shira Kline An award winning New York-based performer and music educator, Shira travels both nationally and internationally with her kiddie-rock band, Shir LaLa, delivering a dynamic, interactive program of joy and spirit, story, and song. Raised in the world of music and the tradition of Torah, Shira has worked for over a decade with a diverse array of Jewish communities to enliven rituals, holiday celebrations, and love for Jewish life and prayer. Shira s innovative approach was recognized by The Jewish Week in 2011 when they honored her as one of their 36 Under 36: The New Re-Engineers of Jewish life. Shira is a worship leader and presents engaging programs for all ages, including Tot Shabbat, adult Jewish music meditation and professional development workshops for early childhood and music teachers. She is also on the faculty of Hava Nashira, URJ Jewish Music Institute, and the HUC-JIR Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music Cantorial Certification Program. Shira is a founding company member of Storahtelling and Lab/Shul in which she is an actor, writer, and ritual leader. Naomi Less Naomi Less is a Brooklyn-based, internationally celebrated singer/songwriter, ritual worship musician, and experiential educator. She tours extensively with her half-israeli, half-american music ensemble, performing rock shows, acoustic concerts, and soulful worship events around the globe. Her two solo albums reflect a diversity of style and content, ranging from vulnerable

5 liturgical ballads to high-octane, celebratory rock. Naomi founded Jewish Chicks Rock and Jewish Kids Rock band programs. Currently Naomi serves as the associate director of Storahtelling Lab/Shul, an experimental, everybody friendly, artist-driven community for sacred Jewish gatherings in New York City, reaching the world. She is a proud Storahtelling founding company member and Storahtelling Maven trainer. Naomi has a Masters in Jewish Education from JTS Davidson School and professional certificates from the Institute for Informal Jewish Education at Brandeis University Fellowship and Institute for Jewish Spirituality. She is a Center for Leadership Initiatives trained facilitator. Jamie Light Jamie Light works for the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) as an Engagement Officer for PJ Our Way, the newest chapter of PJ Library for kids ages In this role, she leads the PJ Our Way at Camp partnership and provides marketing and programming resources for over 90 partner communities. Prior to joining HGF, Jamie worked as a consultant specializing in program and leadership development, strategic storytelling, strategic planning, and alumni engagement. She previously worked in higher education in student affairs and enrollment management. Jamie has a master s degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor s degree in psychology and business from Washington University in St. Louis. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Jamie lives in Beachwood, Ohio with her husband and daughter. She is actively engaged as an alumnae volunteer for Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and in the Cleveland Jewish community. Eric Lindberg Multi-instrumentalist Eric Lindberg brings his background in jazz and classical music to the acoustic stylings of bluegrass and old-time music. His works as a singer, guitarist, and banjoist in Nefesh Mountain are known widely in the Jewish and Bluegrass worlds today. Eric is constantly searching for new ways to break down the barriers between musical genre, race, and religion through the magic of music. Lisa Litman Lisa Litman is the Director of PJ Goes to School (PJGtS). Lisa is passionate about Jewish education, and continues to expand the breadth and scope of PJGtS. She has created and is now piloting a program for congregational complementary schools and day schools for kindergarten through grade two. Lisa joined PJ Library after a long tenure at the JCC Association of North America, where she was a co-creator and director of An Ethical Start, the JCC Association s signature early childhood program based on Jewish values. Lisa has extensive experience in professional development training, both on-site and online. She has been an education consultant, workshop presenter, and keynote speaker in a myriad of settings. In her spare time, Lisa directs and performs in musical theater. Lisa has an M.Ed. from Gratz College and participated in the Reggio Emilia Study Tour in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Aaron Mandel Aaron first came to Camp Tawonga as a camper in 1994 and joined the staff as a counselor in In 2007, Aaron joined the full-time staff as Tawonga s Teen Program Coordinator and moved on to become one of Camp s Assistant Directors before stepping into an Associate Director role in One of Aaron s passions is service learning; he has worked on Tawonga s Teen Service Learning program since 2006, and has led service-learning programs for American Jewish World Service since Aaron completed the Jewish Service Learning Certificate Program at San Francisco State in 2010 and is currently a Lekhu Lakhem Fellow, a Jewish and Educational Journey for camp directors. Aaron s interests include improv comedy, bird watching, running, and frisbee.

6 Craig Parks Craig Parks is a man of many hats, or kippot if you like! He is a Jewish educator, touring musician, composer, recording artist, and continual learner. Craig founded the teen band Kavannah and the monthly teen service, Teen Shabbat Jam. He founded Camp Simcha, which is located in San Diego and is about to enter its 16th summer. Craig is also a nationally recognized figure in Jewish teen engagement, of which he speaks at numerous national conferences. He has written a curriculum for both 8th and 9th grade. Craig also created the Parking Lot for Parents of Teens, a program designed to help Jewish parents navigate the challenging teen years. Craig leads monthly Pajama Shabbat services for young families as well as a weekly Monday morning preschool sing-along followed by Havdallah. He is the founding member of The Jewhooz, a band that covers the most popular rock/pop songs of all time written or performed by Jewish artists. He cofounded the annual Shir Energy Music Festival with Cantor Billy Tiep. Craig has released three CDs with Kavannah, as well as his own CD of Jewish kids music called "Kol Kef - All Fun!" He is honored to be entering his 4th year as part of the SLBC faculty and community. Mikey Pauker Mikey Pauker is an acoustic EDM artist, producer, and ritualist hailing from Oakland, CA. His music, written in Hebrew, English and Sanskrit, described as Medicine Music, is inspired by mystical teachings and spiritual experience and connects to people from all faith. Mikey was named by Time Magazine as one of the top 10 stars of new Jewish Music. Mikey has gained a significant following all over the world. He has been featured in The Examiner, Zimbio, and Artist Direct and his music has been played on KROQ and WFUV. Mikeyhas shared the stage with Matisyahu, Trevor Hall, Yo La Tengo, Mattew Santos, Kosha Dillz, Idan Raichel, Billy Jonas, Yair Delal, Local Natives, The Stone Foxes, Neshama Carlebach, and more. Mikey currently works with EDM icon Siren. Mikey recently performed at the South By Southwest music festival with Kosha Dillz and curated SoulSpark, a Jewish songwriters showcase presented by his Jewish Music Initiative Merkava Mentors. He is currently the Music Director of Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco, and travels to spiritual communities all over the world spreading love and light in hopes of connecting people with embodied spiritual experience and practice. Elisa Heiligman Recht Elisa Heiligman Recht is a Jewish community leader and educator with extensive experience in Jewish youth programming, camping, and teaching. Elisa regularly serves as a consultant for Jewish organizations throughout the US, helping to develop powerful and effective strategies for creating exciting youth engagement experiences in Jewish settings. Elisa creates Jewish educational curricula and spearheads the educational programming of Songleader Boot Camp. Elisa holds undergraduate degrees in social work, Hebrew, and Jewish studies, as well as a master s degree in social work from Washington University. Elisa is the Founder of Soul Sparkler Jewelry and presents interactive, educational programs in Jewish communities throughout the US, inspiring audiences to achieve life balance through intention, mindfulness, gratitude, and wellness strategies. Rick Recht Rick Recht is the Executive Director of SLBC and is the top-touring musician in Jewish music, playing over 150 concerts a year in the United States and abroad. Rick is widely recognized for his appeal to youth and family audiences, not only as an exceptional musician, singer/songwriter, and entertainer, but also as a role model for involvement in Jewish life. He has become an icon for Jewish youth in the United States, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity among Jewish youth throughout North America. Rick is the national music spokesman for The PJ Library and the Founder and Executive Director of Jewish Rock Radio ( the first highcaliber, 24/7, Jewish rock Internet radio station.

7 Josh Sacks Josh Sacks was a songleader at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin from , and was the head songleader in summer While there, he lead a team of 2-8 full and part-time songleaders in 150+ song sessions for 500+ campers and 250+ staff. Josh graduated from Indiana University in 2014 with a degree in Finance, International Business, and Jewish Studies. While on campus, Josh held leadership positions in many different Jewish organizations, including Alpha Epsilon Pi, Hillel, Indiana Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Greek Jewish Council. As a graduate of the Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana, Josh is well versed in informal Jewish education and leadership, and has a particular passion for Jewish music. Josh was also a participant on the Nativ College Leadership Program in Israel in There, he was a student at the Rothberg International School at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and was an English teaching assistant at Kol Ya kov Elementary School in Yerucham. Currently, Josh is a private equity associate at Lexington Partners based in midtown Manhattan. From Deerfield, IL, this is Josh s seventh Songleader Boot Camp national conference. In his free time, Josh enjoys fitness, Chicago sports, and international travel. Robbi Sherwin Robbi Sherwin has been B nai Butte s spiritual leader since 2006, commuting from Austin, Texas. Robbi credits her years at Jewish summer camp for her love of Jewish music, ritual and holidays, and her deep connection to Israel. Robbi believes in bringing Judaism down from the bima, (pulpit) and that sacred community can be built no matter where you are. Ordained as a rabbi in 2014, and as a cantor in 2003, Robbi has spent decades singing and teaching. In her other life, "Rockin'" Robbi Sherwin has established herself as one of the most energetic touring artists today. Her "spirited Jewish songcrafting" has found its way into synagogue worship, concert halls, and summer camps from Tulsa to Tel Aviv. Folk, rock, pop, and "Jewgrass" stylings are evident on her first two solo CDs. She is 1/3 of the critically acclaimed band, Sababa! ( cool ) with partners Steve Brodsky (Denver) and Scott Leader (Phoenix), who are touted as the Crosby, Stills & Nash of Jewish music. Robbi is also a noted and sought-after scholar/artist-inresidence, commissioned songwriter and published author. She is married to Mark Jordan. They have 3 adult kids: Jessica, Katy, and Sam, and one awesome son-in-law, Chris. Eva Stern Eva Stern is the New York Engagement Officer for PJ Library, where she is launching a new strategy for engaging families with young children in Jewish life in the Greater New York area. Prior to PJ Library, Eva served as the Senior Director of Training at Big Tent Judaism (formerly the Jewish Outreach Institute), where she spent the past 12 years teaching Jewish communities throughout North America strategies to find, welcome, and engage thousands of unengaged Jews and intermarried families in Jewish life each year. She is a sought after speaker, leading motivating workshops that impart the critical skills to build more dynamic and inclusive Jewish communities. Eva holds a BA and MA in Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. She is a recipient of the 2010 Young Professional Award of the Jewish Communal Service Association of North America, and was recently named among the 36 under 36 by the New York Jewish Week. Rabbi Susan Talve Rabbi Susan Talve is the Founding Rabbi of Central Reform Congregation, the only Jewish congregation located within the city limits of St. Louis. When other congregations were leaving the city for the suburbs, Susan joined a small group that remained in the city to maintain a vibrant presence there and to be on the frontline of fighting the racism and poverty plaguing the urban center. Today she performs life cycle events, leads worship services for the 750-plus households that comprise the congregation, and is actively involved in teaching young and adult members. She also teaches courses on Jewish life and thought in both the Jewish and non-

8 Jewish communities. Susan has led her congregation in promoting radical inclusivity by developing ongoing relationships with African-American and Muslim congregations, and by fostering civil liberties for the LGBTQ community. She was ordained by Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in 1981, where she earned a Master s Degree in Hebrew Letters and a Doctor of Divinity. She was honored with the college s Stephen Levinson Award for Community Service after founding the Jewish Early Learning Cooperative, Ohio s first licensed infant childcare program in the workplace. Susan was the first non-christian to receive an honorary doctorate from Eden Theological Seminary in 2011 for her leadership in supporting interfaith relations in the St. Louis community. Josh Warshawsky Josh Warshawsky was the artist-in-residence and music specialist at Temple Beth Am and Pressman Academy in Los Angeles, CA, where he brought new musical energy that inspires children and adults. He has transformed his home into a much-needed space in the LA area for Jews in their 20s and 30s of all denominations to celebrate Shabbat and holidays together. He spent 13 summers at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin as a camper, counselor, head songleader, and unit head. Josh helped create the SLBC Ramah special track to bring together Ramah songleaders from all over the country. He has shared his original melodies with Jewish communities throughout the country, and you can hear his tunes for tefillot sung at Ramah and URJ camps. Josh is a graduate of Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary with BA s in religion, Talmud and rabbinics. He is currently a rabbinical student at The Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies. Judi Wisch Judi Wisch has served as the Director of Community Engagement for PJ Library since Judi dedicates her energies to supporting more than 200 PJ program professionals in North America and beyond in reaching out and engaging families with young children, both within and outside of the organized Jewish community. Her past endeavors include serving as a supplementary school education director, Jewish film festival director, Judaic studies teacher, director of the Conference on Judaism in Rural New England, and conflict resolution facilitator at the Neve Shalom/Wahat al Salaam School for Peace in Israel. Judi earned a B.A. in Jewish History from Hebrew University and a master s degree in Intercultural Management from the School for International Training.
