2 Make It Fun (Introductory Activities, 15 minutes) Set up the two activities below before class begins. While the children are entering the classroom begin Line It Up. Let one or two teachers lead activities in the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. 1. Line It Up What You Need: Paper bag. tape, 11 wood craft sticks, and 1 blue craft stick. What You Do: Put a one foot length of tape on the floor. Next, dump the craft sticks out onto the floor and encourage the children to line up the craft sticks along the tape. Then allow the children to count how many craft sticks are alike and the one craft stick that is different. Use the words below to help talk about the differences of the one special craft stick. What You Say: Nice work everyone! These wooden sticks, what could you use them for? (Allow children time to list ideas) Can you help me count them? (Pause.) There are eleven craft sticks! Whew, that was good counting! Now wait a minute, there is one more craft stick, but what is different about it? What do you think you could use this craft stick for? (Pause.) Yes, if we wanted to make a blue house or a blue frame, this craft stick would be perfect! In our story today we are going to hear more about Joseph. (Pick up the blue craft stick.) God made him special and different from his brothers. He had eleven brothers (touch the wooden craft sticks), just like we had eleven craft sticks. Eleven brothers is a lot of brothers! But God had a special plan for Joseph and his brothers and we will hear more about it in our Bible story today. 2. I Love My Family What You Need: No supplies needed. What You Do: Using your imaginations, spend time playing house with the kids. Encourage the children to role-play being different members of their family, from their parents to their siblings to their grandparents. What You Say: Who are you pretending to be? (Ask a few children at a time.) What does he/she normally do? (Pause.) Does he read the paper? (Pause.) Does she bake cookies? (Pause.) Play games? (Pause.) Our families are made up of so many different people, and God planned it that way! Do any of you have eleven brothers? (Pause.) I don t, either; that s a lot of brothers! But Joseph in our Bible story has eleven brothers! We ll hear more about them later in our story, but let s get back to playing dress up! 2

3 Make It True (Large Group Worship, 20 minutes) This month s songs are on the 2 s / PK Worship DVD. Kids and teachers should play instruments during the verses and then do the motions during the chorus. The motions for the verses are provided if you find them helpful, but we encourage you just to dance around in worship. 1. Music Chose 3-4 songs from the PK Worship DVD to be played through the computer or TV located in your classroom. The words for the songs will be shown on the DVD and hand motions can be found online at Ideas for songs on the PK / 2 s DVD: Butterfly Song Better than the Best In the Beginning God is so Good 2. Verse LEADER: Are you ready to learn this month s memory verse? It s all about how God has a plan for us! For I know (finger to temple) the plans I have (hold out hands and sweep from left to right) for you, (point out with both pointer fingers) says the Lord (point both fingers up) Jeremiah 29:11 (open your hands like a book) Let s do it together. Are you ready? Do the verse with the kids two or three times. 3. Offering Pass around the offering bag or bucket to collect any offering for today. Say, We collect offering every week to give the first of our money back to God- 2 Chronicles 31:5 says... the Israelites gave generously. They didn t hold back! They brought in a tithe of everything they owned. Let s offer to God with generous hearts our tithes for today. 4. Video *Be sure to prep Cheering for God in the Make it Stick section during this time. Play this week s video from Wonder, Look at God s Story DVD. 3

4 Make It Stick (Application Activities, 35 minutes) 1. Cheering For God What You Need: Construction paper, tissue paper, glue sticks, scissors, worship music What You Do: While the children are watching this week s video, cut tissue paper into long 1-inch thick strips. Once the children are done watching this months video, hand out a piece of construction paper and allow the children to glue the tissue paper onto one end of the construction paper. You will be helping them create a cheerleading pom pom by rolling up the construction paper and so that the tissue paper is sticking out the end. Then play music and encourage the children to dance around with their pom-poms shouting, I am a big fan of God s plan, while they shake their pom-poms. What You Say: Great job! I am so glad that we are BIG FANS of God s plan. God has a plan for all of us and He wants us to follow His plan. Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) Yes! [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me! 2. Family Portrait What You Need: Family Activity, markers, and crayons. What You Do: Talk with the children about their families. Who do they live with? Who do they see at Christmas? Give each child an activity page and instruct the children to draw their family members. Walk around to each child and encourage them by telling them that God has a plan for their family. Write the names of their family members below each person. What You Say: Your family pictures are so beautiful! I m proud of you! You can go home and show your picture to your family. Tell them that God has a plan for them, just like He has a plan for you! Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me! 3. Response Picture Cards What You Need: Memory Verse Card, brown butcher paper, 11 hearts, 1 star, crayons, Joseph and Joseph and His Brothers 4. Snack Time What You Do: While the children are watching this week s video, draw and cut out a tree trunk with branches out of the butcher paper. Tape the tree to the wall that you will be using for this activity. Cut out and color the hearts and a star to use during the activity. Once the children are ready, have them sit down in front of the wall that the tree is on. Retell the story using the family tree and point out that the brothers and Joseph are different on the tree as just as they are in the story. What You Say: Today we learned more about Joseph (put the Joseph picture) and his family. (Put up Joseph and His Brothers picture.) Do you have any brothers in your family? How many brothers do you have? Wow! Do you remember how many brothers Joseph had? Eleven! Eleven brothers! That s more fingers than I have to hold up! God had a big plan for Joseph and his family! Joseph was different from his brothers. God talked to Joseph a lot. He even talked to Joseph while he was asleep, through his dreams! One night, Joseph had a dream that he would become a very super important man. Joseph was really excited about his dream but his brothers were NOT! Joseph s brothers were mad so they sent Joseph far, far away! Oh, no! Joseph had to go far away from his family! Do you think Joseph was sad to be away from his family? (Pause.) He was, but God was with him; he wasn t alone. God had a plan for Joseph! And [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me, and for you too! Who has a plan for you? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me. 4

5 Make It Real (Small Groups, 5 minutes) Make It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. 1. Small Group Time SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): Our new Bible verse says, For I know the plans I have for you, say the Lord Jeremiah 29:11. Let s say that verse together a few times. For I know (finger to temple) the plans I have (hold out hands and sweep from left to right) for you, (point out with both pointer fingers) says the Lord (point both fingers up) Jeremiah 29:11 (open your hands like a book) 2. Prayer If time allows feel free to ask for prayer requests. Dear God, thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who is our friend forever. We thank You that Jesus is so powerful and He can do anything. Help us to love Him more each and every day. Amen. 3. Get Ready to Dismiss Set any take-home creations where you or parents can get them easily. Pom Pom Family Memory Verse Cards Greet parents at the door and tell them that this month preschoolers are learning that [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me! Encourage parents to repeat the bottom line at home and help their child understand that [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me!
