We hope that you are as excited as we are for this special opportunity to bond with students from across North America and Europe for a Shabbat of fun, learning and inspiration! We are sure that you will find your local hosts to be helpful and welcoming. Please make sure to arrange a key for late night re-entry to their homes.. When walking in the streets, especially late at night, it is always advisable to walk in groups. We are here to make your stay both meaningful and comfortable. Only friends that you have yet to meet. Taste of Yeshiva Track A series of advanced lectures, discussions and educational tours running concurrent to the traditional Shabbaton workshops and lectures. Since its creation in the 1930 s, comic books have become a part of our nation s vocabulary, forever changing the way we think about stories, pictures, and what makes a hero. 27 Faculty Profiles Dr. Binyomin Abrams was born in Montreal, Canada. He obtained his masters and bachelor s degrees from RPI in Troy, NY. He began his pursuit of Judaism and Jewish studies while working on his doctorate in Physical Chemistry at NYU. Dr. Abrams lives in Boston with his wife and daughters, where he teaches Chemistry at Boston University. Rabbi Zalman and Yehudis Bluming co-direct Chabad at UNC and Duke universities. Rabbi Bluming is a gifted educator and master of informal discussion. Mrs. Bluming is an accomplished author and has recorded several musical/motivational albums. Their unique communication abilities and warm personalities have endeared them to countless young women and men worldwide. The Blumings have led hundreds on IsraeLinks, Chabad on Campus premier educational tours of Israel. Rabbi Boruch Hecht was born in southern California. He studied in various leading Yeshivot and received his Rabbinical ordination from the Chief Rabbi of Israel. Attracted to the Rabbinical College of America s acclaimed Advanced Rabbinics program, he stayed on to serve as a leading mentor and spiritual leader in Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim, the College s famed division for beginners. Rabbi Meir Levinger, director of the Women s Program at Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies, resides in Jerusalem with his wife and children, where he serves as a full time lecturer and mashpiah. He is a sought after mentor and teaches Chassidut in various seminaries and Yeshivot throughout Israel. International Shabbaton 27

28 Faculty Profiles Rabbi Yaakov Ephraim and Sarah Parisi have been Torah-observant Jews since They resided in Morristown, N.J. from , where Yaakov Ephraim received his Rabbinical ordination. At the urging of their Rabbis they recently publicized their personal journey to Judaism, in order to inspire Jews to find their individual connection to their Jewish roots. They now reside in Israel and travel periodically for speaking tours. Rabbi Ari Shishler is director of education at the central Chabad House of Johannesburg, South Africa. Rabbi Shishler has lectured on personal growth, Kabbalah, Jewish history and Talmud across South Africa as well as in the USA, Europe and Israel. Rabbi Shishler co-hosts a weekly show on Johannesburg s ChaiFM radio station, and has appeared many times as a guest on South Africa s popular talk stations as well as in a wide range of TV documentaries on Judaism. Rabbi Eliezer Sneiderman, MSW, is a former options trader and member of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. In addition to running Chabad, he is an adjunct lecturer in Jewish Philosophy at the University of Delaware, and a beloved and frequent Birthright Israel trip leader. He is currently working on his Doctorate in Jewish Education. Zaki Isaac B. Tamir is a Litigation Attorney and partner in Shapiro Tamir Law Group PLLC in New York City and a former NYS Prosecutor. A Juris Doctor graduate of Touro Law School, Zaki received rabbinical ordination at Chabad Central Yeshiva in Israel. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three children and serves as chairman of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council. 28 Chabad on Campus

29 Faculty Profiles Rabbi Yitzchok Tsap, originally from Melbourne, Australia, is a mentor and instructor of Chassidic philosophy at Hadar Hatorah, the longest-running Yeshiva for beginners, located in Crown Heights. Rabbi Tsap has lectured extensively at numerous community and campus-based Chabad houses and shuls. Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe is the Dean of the Institute of American and Talmudic Law in New York, and is a Scholar-in-Residence at Chabad of Harvard. Rabbi Yaffe has lectured and led seminars throughout North America and Europe. He studied at Yeshivot (Rabbinic colleges) in Miami, London, and New York and received Rabbinic ordination from the Central Lubavitch Yeshivah in Brooklyn. He was a fellow of the postordination program at the Leeds Kollel in the United Kingdom from Rabbi Simcha Weinstein is the best-selling author of Up, Up, and Oy Vey: How Jewish History, Culture, and Values Shaped the Comic Book Superhero and Shtick Shift: Jewish Humor in the 21st Century. He has appeared on CNN and NPR and has been profiled in leading publications, including the New York Times and London Guardian. A syndicated columnist, he writes for the Jerusalem Post, JTA, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Condé Nast, and many others. He chairs the Religious Affairs Committee at Pratt Institute and was recently voted New York s Hippest Rabbi by PBS affiliate Channel 13. His latest book, The Case for Children: Why Parenthood makes Your World Better debuts December 16. International Shabbaton 29
