1 Friday Services start at 7:30 PM Saturday Services start at 10:30 AM March, 2015 A Reform Congregation Volume 10, Issue 9 FROM THE RABBI This year, Temple Shalom's Purim Celebration will be held on Wednesday evening, March 4th. In keeping with the festive nature of the holiday, everyone is encouraged, although not required, to come in costume. Each person coming in costume will be given due recognition. The evening will begin at 6:30 P.M. with a pot-luck supper. Those planning to attend are requested to bring a dairy or fish (no shell fish) dish or salad. You don't have to let me know in advance what you are bringing. Hamantaschen will be supplied by the temple, so do not bring desserts. Following the supper, song sheets and graggers will be distributed in the sanctuary. We will sing Purim songs, followed by the reading of the Book of Esther in English by members of the congregation. Congregants will make noise with their graggers and stamp their feet whenever the name of the villain, Haman, is mentioned. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A READING PART, LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PARTS WILL BE ASSIGNED ON A FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED BASIS. ADMISSION IS FREE AND NO RESERVATIONS ARE RE- QUIRED. HOWEVER, WE NEED SPONSORS TO PAY FOR THE HA- MANTASCHEN AND OTHER REQUIRED INCIDENTALS. If you would like to serve as a sponsor of the Purim Celebration, make out a check for $18 to Temple Shalom and write "Purim" in the "Memo" section on the check. Give the check to me personally or mail it to me at 199 Lakeside Crossing Drive, Conway, SC The names of all sponsors will be announced at the Purim Celebration and will be listed in the April issue of the temple bulletin. Purim is a fun holiday. Don't miss it. Rabbi David Weissman Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

FROM THE PRESIDENT: Dear Temple Members & Friends, After a very cold winter especially for the South we look forward to a warm and bright season ahead of us. We celebrate two of our favorite holidays: Purim, March 4th and Passover, April 3rd. You will find the Passover flyer and reservation form in this bulletin. Please do not hesitate to make your reservation. We have always had a wonderful time at both of these holidays. We look forward to the move to our new home for Temple Shalom this spring. The renovations are going well and I must tell you-it is a remarkable difference from when we purchased the building. I know we will all be pleased with the end result. Our lease on our current building is up on May 31st and as long as Horry County is ready to gives us our occupancy certificate by that date it all should work out to our satisfaction. Our Congregational meeting is scheduled for May 20 th. We certainly hope to hold it in the new building at 4023 Belle Terre Blvd, Myrtle Beach. That will be a wonderful way to mark our 10th year. On June 7, 2015 we will have a wonderful celebration for all of us and our friends. More information will be going out by the first of April. Please save the date. We are pleased to have businesses and members that are sponsoring this event. If you would like to be a sponsor please contact Natalie Kramer. If you have plans to travel north in the next few weeks be safe. If you are planning a trip overseas be attentive and travel safely. Chag Sameach Lily Ann Revitch

4 4 Mi Sheberach list We all pray that those who are mentioned on the Mi Sheberach list each Shabbat regain their health and continue to join us. However, Beginning immediately, persons whose names are on the list will be mentioned each Shabbat for a period of 30 days. If you want to extend that mention beyond the 30 days, please contact Rabbi Weissman each month as appropriate. As always, at Shabbat services you can add a name to the Mi Sheberach list. ONEG NEWS We welcome March and it's warmer weather! Thanks to so many of you, it has been easy to fill the calendar with Friday night onegs. We still need someone for May 15, May 22, and June 12. The entire summer is still available. If you haven't done an oneg in a while, this is a perfect opportunity to plan ahead. Any questions, just contact me. I wonder who will be the first one to provide the oneg in our own building!! Flo Pflaster dfp324@atmc.net

8 8 Save the Date for our Tenth Anniversary Gala Celebration June 7, 2015 at 5 pm at the Clarion Hotel in Myrtle Beach The committee, led by Natalie Kramer, has been busy planning a fantastic event and we hope to have a large turnout to mark this momentous occasion! We are planning a luscious dinner, a fun entertainer who will perform magic tricks and astound you with his Houdini like escape act, and time given to honor several people who have made our Temple a success over the past 10 years. The cost will be $36 per person for all of the above.. Several of our local businesses are sponsoring our event by giving a donation of $125. Any member who would also like to be listed in the program as one of our sponsors can do that with a donation of $ Look for your invitation to come in the mail in early April! Natalie Kramer After reading the Blog from Carolina Forest High School about Lee and his son, Adam Pelty playing Tevya in Chicago at the Old Candlelight Dinner Theatre. Adam s son and Lee s grandson, Noah, will be playing Tevya at Carolina Forest High School's production of Fiddler on the Roof. All of a sudden I remembered in 1970, we were living in a suburb of Chicago and went to see Fiddler at the Old Candlelight Dinner Theatre with my husband, Ronald Crow. ("Topal" played Tevya at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City and I got to meet him. He played Tevya in the movie.) We were thrilled and so impressed with Lee Pelty s acting, dancing and singing. Lee Pelty was originally Lee Peltavitch. Time passed and we moved to Anaheim, California for three years, then 22 years in Topeka, Kansas where we saw Fiddler in several high school productions, one at Topeka Civic Theatre, and I volunteered at the outdoor production at the Gage Park Theatre collecting tickets. Got to see the play for two weekends. What a thrill that was. We saw Fiddler at the Starlight Outdoor Theatre in Kansas City. On our 25th wedding party in January 1986, the band played After 25 years, Do you love me" from "Fiddler" - so emotional. After our daughter, Dana, graduated from the University of Kansas, she moved to Chicago in In 1990, on a trip to Chicago to visit her, we went to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Old Candlelight Dinner Theatre. At the beginning of the Play, it was announced that Adam Pelty, Lee s son was playing Tevya. That was exciting to hear since I have seen his father 20 years ago in At Dana's wedding at the Drake Hotel in Chicago on May 26, 1986, "Sunrise Sunset was played on a harp as the wedding party walked down the aisle. Really beautiful and so meaningful to us. It is unbelievable that we have the privilege of seeing Adam s son, Noah, playing Tevya on March 22nd three generations How lucky can I be. When I got the that Fiddler was coming to CFHS, I immediately purchased thirty tickets. Fortunately I have sold them all to friends from Temple Shalom and many of my Myrtle Trace neighbors. Beth Crow
