1 Mission Statement Project Chicken Soup is a non-profit organization that prepares and delivers free, nutritious, kosher meals to people in the greater Los Angeles area living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses. These services are provided with love and compassion to all persons regardless of faith or religious belief. Vision Statement Project Chicken Soup provides nutritious food and comfort to make a difference in the lives of people in need, serving them with dignity and respect in a nurturing environment. We do this out of an abiding sense of love and justice, seeking to heal the world through service to humankind by providing nourishment and empowerment to those we serve. Chicken Soup By Carmiya Baskin because it was something that interested me and looked fun. At my Bat Mitzvah Kiddush luncheon, my centerpieces were all about my Mitzvah project and how much it means to me. Aside from cooking there, I also donated food. The food went to Chicken Soup's clients so they could have some things to cook with at home, too. The first time I went to Project Chicken Soup, everyone was so warm and welcoming and actually let me cook! They didn't just send me off to package up and deliver the food. At this, I was very happy because I was there to help and cook and enjoy myself. Time flies when you're having fun and that's exactly how it feels every time I go back there. After my first time, I knew I was going to come back, no matter what. Thank you to everyone at Chicken Soup: all the nice people I've met and of course the person who organizes it all, Cathryn Friedman. From A PCS Client To Project Chicken Soup, Carmiya Baskin Bat Mitzvahs are one of the most hectic times in a Jewish girl's life. With all the craziness, it can be hard finding a time where you can just relax and be yourself. But I did find that place; it's called Project Chicken Soup. One of the reasons why I love Chicken Soup is because I love to cook and I love to help people. And when you feel that good about something, you know it's the perfect fit. This leads me into the second part of a Bat Mitzvah, a Mitzvah project. I chose Project Chicken Soup for my Mitzvah project When I was a child, I lived on 56th Street in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York. On the way home from school, the smell of freshly cooked suppers filled the air. I loved to guess which one was my mother's or grandmother's cooking. Entering my home (directed to first wash my hands), I couldn't wait to taste what was waiting to be eaten. When I would exclaim, mmm this is so good, what did you put in it? my mother would reply with a smile, my hands. Of course it was love that was the key ingredient and that is precisely my experience when receiving a delivery from Project Chicken Soup. These 50 odd years later, I could not have even imagined that I would be so alone after coming from such a large extended family. It is your delivery that adds a bit of warmth to my life.
