1 2-3 Small Group Week 7 Get Their Attention! (5 min) Materials: Pullback Race Cars INTRODUCE yourself & WELCOME kids to church! SAY: Have you had fun on our African safari? Before we get started today, let s pray together (have kids bow heads & close eyes as you pray): Dear God, thank you for giving us the Bible. Open our eyes so we can see how your Word can help us in every situation! We love you! Amen. Need to Know: The Bible Helps Me In Every Situation! Bible Story: Proverb of the Ant Proverbs 6:6-8 Proverb of the Honey Proverbs 25:16 Proverb of the Lion Proverbs 28:1b Materials: Pullback Race Cars Bible Story Picture Cards Situation Cards Safari Slap Bracelets Memory Verse Coloring Sheets Crayons Filler Guide Reminders: Next week is the Memory Verse reward week! Remind kids to practice the verse at home. See series Filler Guide for filler activities. LET kids send the Pullback Race Cars to each other and ANSWER the following: What s your name? If you were on a safari, what is a situation you would need help with? (A lion chasing you, building a fire, getting lost, etc.) INTRODUCE kids to what we are learning today: There are probably a lot of situations on a safari where we would need help. There are situations in life where we need help, too. God wants to help us, so He gave us the Bible. Today we Need to Know that The Bible Helps Me In Every Situation! REPEAT what we Need to Know together. Bible Story (5 min) Materials: Bible Story Picture Cards READ Proverbs from Bible Story Picture Cards, and then ASK: 1. What does the ant do while no one is watching? (Works hard) 2. How can we be like the ants? (Work hard when no one tells us to) 3. What did the Bible say happens if you eat too much honey? (Get sick) 4. Is it ok to have a little bit of honey? (Yes just not too much) 5. What does it mean to have self-control? (Stopping before you ve had too much of something) 6. Are lions shy or bold? (Bold) 7. If we want to be bold like lions, what does the Bible say we should do? (We should do what is right) 8. Will these verses from the Bible help you when you are feeling lazy? (Yes) How about when you feel hungry? (Yes) And how about when you feel scared to do what is right? (Yes) See, the Bible can help you in EVERY situation! REPEAT what we Need to Know together one more time.

2 2-3 Small Group Week 7 Application Summary: Kids will play a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. The team that wins the game will decide which Proverb applies to a specific situation, and see how the Bible helps us in every situation! Application Activity (10 min) Materials: Situation Cards, Safari Slap Bracelets 1. Divide kids into two teams. 2. Allow one child from each team to come forward. 3. They will play a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. The winner of the game will draw a Situation Card from the stack in your hand. 4. Read the Situation Card to the team who won Rock, Paper, Scissors. Have kids use the following motions to tell you if the person in the situation needs to remember the... Ant: use forefingers to make feelers on forehead Honey: lick lips Lion: bring hands beside face and bend fingers to look like paws Need to Know: The Bible Helps Me In Every Situation! 5. After answering, ask kids to share what the person could do in that situation. 6. Give the team a point for answering & play until all kids have played or all cards have been read. 7. Reward the team with the most points with a Safari Slap Bracelet, and then give them to the other team as well. REVIEW by saying: Your slap bracelets can help you remember to work hard like the ants, have self-control like with honey, and be bold like lions! Memory Verse: Be good (two thumbs up) to me, your servant, (thumbs to chest) so that I may live (arms outstretched above head) to obey your word. (make book with hands) Open my eyes (point to eyes) so that I can see (place hand above eyes) all the wonderful things (two thumbs up) in your teachings. (make book with hands) Psalm 119:17-18 We learned about a few situations today where the Bible will help us. As we continue to read the Bible, we ll learn that the Bible helps us in EVERY situation! REPEAT what we Need to Know together one more time. Wrap It Up (10 min) Materials: Memory Verse Coloring Sheets, Crayons, Filler Guide MEMORY VERSE: 1. Practice Memory Verse and motions. Remind kids that they will win a prize if they can say the verse by themselves next week! 2. Pass out Memory Verse Coloring Sheets and crayons. 3. Allow kids to color in the Memory Verse. 4. As time allows, kids can practice saying the verse with a partner. DISCUSS the following questions, then use the Filler Guide if needed: 1. Did you have fun today? What did you learn? 2. Was Quinn being a good friend and helping Alex? (No, he did not help or serve Alex by helping him do his chores) 3. Like the ants, when was a time that you worked hard without being told? (Ex. Cleaning room, doing chores)

4 Do you know what it means to be lazy? (Not wanting to do anything) Have you ever felt lazy? (Not wanting to do homework, chores, or help someone, etc.) The book of Proverbs in the Bible tells us what to do when we are feeling lazy. Proverbs 6:6-8 says: You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill. (Point to Ant Picture) Ants don t have leaders, but they store up food during harvest season. If you ve ever watched an anthill, you know that ants work very hard. No one is telling them what to do, but when there is work to be done, the ants work as hard as they can. (Point to Homework Picture) It s ok for us to rest sometimes, but when there is work to be done, we should work hard, even if no one tells us to! 6 What is your favorite sweet treat to eat? (Allow responses) Mine is. (share your favorite sweet treat) (Point to Candy Picture) When we see something sweet to eat, the Bible tells us what to do. Proverbs 25:16 says: (Point to Honey Picture) Honey is good, but don t eat too much of it, or you will be sick. When we get to eat our favorite sweets or even when we get to do our favorite things, like play video games or watch movies, the Bible says we should have self-control! 8 (Point to Girls Picture) Have you ever been made fun of for doing the right thing? (Allow responses) Has there ever been a time that you wanted to do the right thing, but you were afraid to? (Allow responses) The book of Proverbs in the Bible can help when you are feeling this way. The second part of Proverbs 28:1 says: Those who do what is right are as bold as lions. (Point to Lion Picture) Think about lions. Do you think lions have to be scared of very many animals? No! They are kings of the wild! In the same way, you don t have to be afraid of doing the right thing. Being bold means that you are not worried or afraid of doing something. When you do what is right, you are as bold as lions! 10 It s a Saturday and Kelly has a soccer game at 1:00. Instead of getting ready, she just sleeps in and watches TV until one minute before she has to leave. (ANT - Kelly should get ready so she is not rushed; she can be ready before her mom even asks her to get ready; Kelly could get up and read her Bible before her game) Damien s mom has to go to the grocery store. She told him to fold his clean clothes and vacuum his room. Damien can see the laundry basket and vacuum cleaner, but he doesn t want to get up from his chair. (ANT - Damien should finish all his chores first, and then he can chill out later) Chad was supposed to help his dad cut the grass but his favorite show was having a marathon and he didn t feel like getting up. (ANT - Chad should obey his dad and go help instead of being lazy in front of the TV) Zack and Gardner know their mom has a lot of work to do. Instead of getting up to help, they keep asking for five more minutes of TV time. (ANT - Zack and Gardner should get up and help their mom right away) Phillip and Sam were supposed to go to bed at 9:00. But they couldn t stop playing video games because they wanted to get a higher score. Now it s 1:00 in the morning. (HONEY - Phillip and Sam need to have self-control and stop playing video games) Max and Sarah s grandma told them they need to eat some salad, but they just want to eat more pizza! (HONEY They don t need to eat too much pizza because it can make them sick; have self-control and eat some salad, too, or not eat too much pizza)

12 Sarah s mom just finished making muffins. Her mom said NOT to eat any until after they cooled off. Sarah couldn t help herself. She just HAD to have one of those muffins! (HONEY - Sarah should obey her mom; Sarah should have self-control & wait to eat a muffin) Zander knows that having a CUP of soda is ok, but he loves soda so much that he ends up drinking the whole bottle! (HONEY Zander should stop after drinking a cup; drinking the whole bottle can make him sick) Felicia and her friend Tonya go play putt-putt. Tonya s ball gets really close to the hole, but doesn t make it in. When Felicia looks away, Tonya pushes her putt-putt ball into the hole and says that she made a hole in one! (LION Tonya should be bold & do the right thing by choosing not to cheat; Tonya could tell Felicia what she did and ask to redo that hole) Marta and her brother Jose are kicking the soccer ball in the front yard. They accidentally hit their dad s car & break the side mirror. They don t want to tell their dad what happened. (LION They should tell the truth & apologize, even if they may get in trouble that s the bold thing to do) Travis and his sister are walking home from school when they see their grumpy neighbor s dog wandering in the street. They wonder what to do. (LION They should be bold and take the dog back, even though their neighbor is grumpy) Amanda sat with the new kid at lunch. All the other kids made fun of Amanda now because they think the new kid is weird. Amanda wonders if she should eat with the new kid again tomorrow. (LION Amanda should be bold and do the right thing be a friend to the new kid)
