1 K-5th Grade Small Group Week 7 Get Their Attention (3 minutes) INTRODUCE yourself by saying: Hey! My name is, and I m so glad all of you are here today! We get to hang out at Camp and learn how we can be leaders who set the example for others! Did you know that leaders make a difference? They do! Let s go around the circle. When it s your turn, tell us your name and which way you would rather make a difference by being the camp janitor or by being the camp cook? Need to Know: I Can (thumbs to chest) Be a Leader (salute) Who Makes a Difference! Bible Story: (fist bump someone) Fish and Loaves Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-14 Materials: Bible Story Coloring Sheets Writing Utensils Bible Story Cards Bean Bag Glow Stick Bracelets Crayons Filler Guide After kids have shared their names, SAY: When God made us, He gave us all different gifts and abilities. By using these gifts and abilities, we can be leaders who make a big difference in the world! And that s what we need to know today! Say it with me! I Can (thumbs to chest) Be a Leader (salute) Who Makes a Difference! (first bump someone) Bible Story (7 minutes) PASS OUT Bible Story Coloring Sheets and writing utensils. As you read the Bible Story Cards, instruct kids to draw the pictures from the cards in the boxes on their coloring sheets. After the story, ASK: 1. How did the little boy make a difference by giving his food to Jesus, or by making 5,000 S mores? (By giving his food to Jesus!) 2. Could the little boy have made a difference without Jesus? (No!) Right! The little boy never could have fed 5,000 people with two fish and five loaves of bread by himself. But the little boy gave what he had to Jesus and then he was able to make a HUGE difference! 3. Can Jesus use YOU to make a big difference, just like He used the little boy? (Yes!) Yes He can! We can all be leaders who make a difference when we follow the leader who made the GREATEST difference ever Jesus! And that s what we need to know today! Say it with me! I Can Be a Leader Who Makes a Difference!

2 Memory Verse: Don t let anyone make fun of you, (shake head no ) just because you are young. (pat head) Set an example for other followers (hands out to sides, palms up) by what you say (cup hands around mouth) and do. (pound fists on top of each other) PRAY: Dear Jesus, thank you for making the biggest difference ever! You died for our sins so we could be your friends! Help us follow you so we can be leaders who make a difference, too! We love you! Amen. APPLICATION ACTIVITY (7 minutes) PLAY Hot Potato to review the Memory Verse (on left). 1. Lead the group in saying the verse as a bean bag is passed around the circle. 2. Each time the verse ends, the person holding the bean bag will choose a partner to recite the verse with them. 3. Reward those two kids with a glow stick bracelet even if they needed your help saying the verse. 4. Have those two kids begin coloring their Bible Story Coloring Sheets. 5. Play again with the rest of the group. Continue playing until everyone has won a bracelet. Then, SAY: 1 Timothy 4:21a (hold up one finger) Just like our Memory Verse says, you guys can be leaders who set an example, even though you are young! As you follow Jesus, He will make you leaders who make a difference, just like Him! And that s what we need to know today. Say it with me! I Can Be a Leader Who Makes a Difference! Wrap It Up (3 minutes) Review Questions: 1. How did Sponge and Stir Fry make a difference? (They cleaned the whole camp and offered to come back next year to help!) While kids are coloring, ASK the Review Questions on the left. USE the Filler Guide to keep kids engaged in small group. 2. What are some ways you can make a difference? (Allow responses)

3 Fish And Loaves Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-14 Wherever Jesus went, huge crowds gathered. Everyone wanted to hear what He had to say. One day, Jesus was teaching by the Sea of Galilee. Thousands of people listened to him teach all day long! They stayed for so long that they missed dinner! The disciples told Jesus to send the people away so they could go find something to eat. Jesus replied, They don t need to leave. You give them something to eat. The disciples were confused because they didn t have any food to give them. Then, a little boy came up with five loaves of bread and two fish and gave them to Jesus disciples. The disciples asked, What good is this with all these people? Jesus told the people to sit down on the grass. He held up the five loaves of bread and the two fish and thanked God for them. Then, he broke the bread and fish into pieces and gave them to the disciples. The disciples started passing out the food. There was enough for everyone! 5,000 men plus thousands of women and children ate until they were full! On top of that, there was enough left over to fill twelve large baskets! 9 Jesus told the people to sit down on the grass. He held up the five loaves of bread and the two fish and thanked God for them. Then, he broke the bread and fish into pieces and gave them to the disciples. The disciples started passing out the food. There was enough for everyone! 5,000 men plus thousands of women and children ate until they were full! On top of that, there was enough left over to fill twelve large baskets! 10 Camp Wannastay Filler Guide (ES) Week 1: Play Follow the Leader: o Let kids take turns being the leader o The leader will walk in a circle around the group, doing different motions o The rest of the group will copy the motions that the leader does Week 2: Play Camp Wannastay Teams. o Roll a die and read the number on it o o Allow the group to get into teams of that number Once in teams, announce for kids to act out something camp-like: Pretend to sit around a campfire Pretend to be bunk beds Pretend to eat ice cream Pretend to swat bugs Talk with group about how we don t like it when we are excluded from groups, so we can be leaders who include others! Week 3: Practice the Memory Verse by playing a game: o Allow all kids to place their feet in the middle of the circle o Say the Memory Verse (on the back of this page), pointing to a child s foot on each word of the verse o The foot you are pointing to on the last word of the verse, 12, is out! o Keep playing until there is only one foot left he or she is the winner! Week 4: Practice the Memory Verse by playing Human Tic-Tac-Toe : o Set up a Tic-Tac-Toe board using masking tape (should look like a hashtag - #) o Divide group into two teams o Allow teams to take turns standing in a square on the Tic Tac Toe board o Continue doing this until a team gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) o When a team gets three in a row, that team will say the Memory Verse together! Week 5: Practice the Memory Verse by playing a game: o Divide the group into two teams o K-3: Allow one team to say the Memory Verse while the other team does the motions, then switch teams o 4-5: Allow one team to say the Memory Verse while the other team runs in place, then switch teams Week 6: Use the tissue paper from the Bible Story activity to play Mirror, Mirror o Go between making hair and a beard using the tissue paper quickly o Allow the kids to copy you as you get faster! Week 7: Play hot potato again using the beanbag

11 Quick Games: If you have time at the end of the Small Group Lesson, here are some quick games you can play to keep kids engaged in small group: Staring Contest Thumb Wrestling Arm Wave Circle o Have everyone hold hands around the circle o Start by moving your right hand up, and then move the wave down and across to your left arm o Keep this going around the circle until the whole circle is doing a wormlike wave motion Simon Says Try Not to Laugh o Allow kids to choose a partner o Kids will make funny faces at their partners, trying to make them laugh! Back Reading o Allow kids to choose a partner o They will draw a letter or shape on their partner s back o Allow partners to guess what they are drawing I Spy Get to Know You Questions: Ask these questions to get to know your kids during any free time you may have. What is something fun you did this week? What is something your family likes to do together? If you were at a summer camp, what kinds of things would you want to do? If you went to summer camp, would you rather go to a camp all about sports or all about fashion? Or what kind of camp would be your favorite camp to go to? What would you pack if you were going to camp? Two Questions: At the end of each day, we want kids to be able to answer the following questions: Did you have fun? (Yes) What did you learn? (Today s Need to Know) Series Memory Verse (Motions are optional for 4-5): Don t let anyone make fun of you, (shake head no ) Just because you are young.
