That s because grace, gracias, and grazie all descend from the same Latin word, grātia. For the ancient Romans, grātia had three distinct meanings: (1) a pleasing quality, (2) favor or goodwill, and (3) gratitude or thanks. We find all three of these meanings in modern-day English.

44 What does drinking water have to do with the attitude of gratitude? It is a small illustration of why we should be grateful. I will tell you a short story about water and gratitude

45 In a village in India, there once was an orphanage. In some places in India, clean drinking water is scarce, and during meals at this orphanage, each orphan is given as little as a single cup of water with each meal. one boy, larger and stronger, was always able to get more water, pushing forward and taking whatever he could. another boy, smaller, was often left with whatever remained after the contest among the boys. One day the director came with good news because an aqueduct was placed into the village and now the boys could get generous amounts of fresh water. Before breaking the news, he pretending that he was thirsty, sat down as the boys were eating, and openly asked, I am thirsty and am out of water. Could one of you share some of your water with me? and he extended his cup. The larger boy, who usually had more, exclaimed, I got so little today I only got half a cup How can I share with you? and he quickly turned away, guarding his cup close to his chest. The smaller boy joyfully approached the director and generously poured some of his water into director s cup and

We try and go our own way. gratitude reminds us. gratitude keeps us on the way that leads to life, keeps us on the truth keeps us in perspective.

Chasing after people? Inviting people?

68 but through all of those things, there are great things to be seen. God is doing amazing things, and if we do not allow his word to transform our minds, to dwell in our lives and change who we are and how we see, if we don t allow people to help us to see we will miss all the amazing and incredible blessings along the way. The sad part is not how close someone comes to being good or grateful w/out God the sad part is that as good or as grateful as they are, there s more that God wanted to show them, to help them to see. There is more of who they are they will never realize. let s really live with and live out God s word, let s dig into it. this week, get together with someone, ask them to show you what they see in your life. Ask questions. Invite questions. Let us be a people who have the attitude of gratitude. Amen.
