1 ELTE Faculty of Humanities, Institute of Ancient Studies Hebrew Studies & Biblical Studies Programs Spring Term 2018/19 Thursdays 10:00-11:30 a.m., F/234 Introduction to the literature of early and rabbinic Judaism lecture Gábor Buzási, Tamás Turán, Stefan Schorch In this course, students are introduced to the literary world of a formative period in Jewish intellectual history: the time of the second Temple (530 BCE 70 CE) and the rabbinic era (70 ca. 500 CE). The lectures cover the major literary corpora of the period including Hellenistic Jewish literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Pseudepigrapha, Talmud and Midrash. Each lecture offers an overview at one of these groups of works by providing information on the literary, historical and intellectual background, as well as through analyses of a representative sample of sources. Evaluation: - Participation in the lectures (10%) - Written exam (90%) o lectures and secondary literature (60%) o primary sources (30%) Topics (for abbreviations see end of document) 1.
