17 THE BIG GOD STORY TRU Wonder Preschool & Kindergarten Lesson 1.1: Genesis 1-2:3, Creation Ponder Point: God is Creator Props: story pictures I can print color copies. Let me know by Tuesday, September 4 I can't wait to learn more about The Big God Story and how God is perfect and holy. Before we go any further, let's pray and ask God to help us understand what he wants to teach us today. Today I'm going to tell you the beginning of a story. We won't be able to finish the story today, but there is one very important thing to remember... it's all the same story with one main character. It's his story and he is the hero. He is unlike anyone or anything else and he is good--always good. Who is it that I am speaking of? Pause for children to answer. That's right, God. This is the true story of God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God just spoke the words and light appeared! He was pleased with the light and saw that the light was good. God separated the light from the darkness. He named the light "day" and the darkness he called "night." That was the very first day that ever was. On the second day, God created the sky. Have child with Clouds image tape it to wall. The third day came, and since God is the Creator, He was still very busy! He gathered all the water together in one place and the dry ground appeared. The dry ground he called "land." And the water that gathered together in one place (have child with Waves image tape it after the Clouds image) was called the "seas" or oceans. God saw that it was good! Then God told the land to grow plants and trees. Have children with Flowers image and Trees images to add those to wall. He made sure all the plants and trees had seeds. Tape two seed packets to wall. God was making food for his creation. One day when the time came, those seeds were placed in the ground and new plants and trees grew. Have children with Fruits and Vegetables and the Beans, Nuts, and Grains images tape them to wall. There were all kinds of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and rice all from plants and trees. God saw that it was good. On the fourth day, God placed the sun in the sky to light the earth for the day. Cue child with Sun image to add it to the wall. He also placed the moon in the sky to give the earth a nightlight. Have child with Moon image tape it next to the Sun image. But before he was finished with his work on the fourth day, God sprinkled stars in the night sky. Give Star cutouts to several children to tape near the Moon image. He saw that it was good. On the fifth day, God created all of the creatures that live in the waters of the earth and fly above in the sky. God made fish and whales and dolphins. And let's not forget our feathered friends, the birds. There were big beautiful birds and teeny tiny birds. He made birds that squawk, tweet, and sing. God, the Creator, blessed the creatures of the air and the sea. He told them to go and have families. God saw that it was good. Explain to kids that they should act like each animal after you say its name. God spoke, and he created animals of every shape and kind and size: cows (children act like a cow), frogs (children act like a frog), monkeys (children act like a monkey), elephants (children act like an elephant), cats(children act like a cat), kangaroos (children act like a kangaroo), horses (children act like a horse), tigers (children act like a tiger), lions (children act like a lion), puppies (children act like a puppy), rabbits (children act like a

18 rabbit), and wild animals all kinds. He made animals as big as giraffes and as small as ants! God saw that it was good. But he wasn't finished not yet. God is Creator, and there was still something else he wanted to create. God spoke the words and made a man and a woman. Then he gave them the responsibility, or job, of caring for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, and the animals on the land. And, yes, even the earth itself. This meant they had a very important job! God blessed the man and woman. He told them to grow and have a family. Before the day ended, God told them all about the food he made for the animals and the people to eat. He told them to listen carefully to his words and to be sure to obey them. This was their responsibility--to obey God's words so they could take care of the world and everything in it. God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, and then it was morning the sixth day. On the seventh day, God, the Creator, rested from all the work he had done. Friends, the very beginning of The Big God Story was when God made our world. He made you, and he made me. God has invited us to be a part of His big story. He has given us a very important job just like the job he gave to Adam and Eve. He has given us responsibility. That's a big word meaning we need to care for the world he created and everyone and everything in it. How can we take care of the world and everyone in it? It's a big job. Children will answer; interact with their responses. We can be responsible and care for the world by obeying God's words. When we listen to his words and choose to trust and follow him, God will give us everything we need to love and care for the world and everyone in it. Guess what? God will be with us and give us everything we need to care for his creation. Why? Because he is good, perfect and loving. He is not like anyone or anything else. I WONDER QUESTIONS I wonder why did God decide to make plants? Animals? People? I wonder who does God want to care for the earth, everyone and everything in it? I wonder how would God like me to care for the world and people he created?

19 Date: Lesson 1.1 At Home Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. You ll find out what they learned today at church, and you can help them prepare for next week by exploring the theme (or Ponder Point) and spending time together in God s Word. WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK PONDER POINT: GOD IS CREATOR Creation Genesis 1 2:3 God created all things by speaking them into existence. All of creation served God and worshipped Him. WHERE WE RE HEADED NEXT TIME PONDER POINT: GOD IS HOLY The Fall Genesis 2 3 The perfect relationship between God and humanity was broken when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Even in the midst of His holiness, God extends his mercy to us through Christ. DID YOU KNOW? Share these facts to get the conversation started. In the beginning, Adam and Eve had a perfect relationship with God. He walked and talked with them in the garden. Because God is holy, when Adam and Eve sinned, their relationship with God was broken and couldn t stay the same. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, God provided a way for our relationship with Him to be restored. CONNECT AS A FAMILY Read this part of The Big God Story outside under a tree. Explain to your children that after God created Adam and Eve, He had a perfect relationship with them. God walked and talked with them every day. Read Genesis 3:1 9. Discuss with your children what happened when Adam and Eve made the choice to disobey God by eating fruit from the forbidden tree. After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together: How was life in the garden different from our lives today? Why did Adam and Eve hide from God after they ate the fruit? How do you think Adam and Eve felt when God gave them clothes (see Gen. 3:21)? Extend these questions into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God is holy into your everyday life as a family. REMEMBER VERSE The Remember Verse focuses on a character trait of God that s highlighted in next week s portion of The Big God Story. The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, The purposes of his heart through all generations. Psalm 33:11 BLESSING Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child s name), God made you with lots of love and joy David C Cook. It is a preparatory tool for NEXT WEEK s lesson, to be copied, passed out, and then done with parents at home. CONNECT Table Activities *Coloring page (see attached) *Pipe Cleaner Snakes Have pipe cleaners available for the kids to make snakes. Garden of Eden Tree (see attached) Instead of the paint in step two, you may choose to use markers. Floor Activities *Obey the Signs Make a set of stop and go signs out of paper plates. Give kids simple directions, such as: touch your head, rub your tummy, clap your hands. Tell them to do the activity when you hold up the go sign and to stop when you hold up the stop sign. *Heart Hide and Seek Hide hearts for kids to find (punch out with Elison machine in room 014). After kids have found the hearts, gather together and talk about how God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to be our redeemer. *Denotes opening activities that are appropriate for ages 2 and 3. 24 This engaging craft will help children remember that although God gives us many good Garden things, of just Eden like He Tree gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden, disobedience can mess things up. Supplies List: Bathroom tissue rollers (one for each student) Green pipe cleaners (one for each student) Washable paint (any fruit color) Green construction paper Glue Tape Wipes (if needed for cleanup) Teacher Preparation: Draw and cut a green tree top shape from green construction paper approximately 4 in. wide (1 for each student). Instructions: Step 1. Give each student a green tree top shape. Explain that they will be putting beautiful fruit on this tree just as God put lovely fruit and flowers in the Garden of Eden for Adam and Eve. Step 2. Provide washable paint for students to roll their thumbs in, or you can carefully paint each student s thumb in paint. Guide the students in creating thumbprint fruit on their green tree top. Clean student s thumbs after this step. Copyright 2015 SundaySchoolZone.com All rights reserved. Free for church or home use. Visit

25 Step 3. Give each student a bathroom tissue roller and guide them in carefully gluing their tree tops to the front of the roller. As children work on the tree, emphasize how good it was that God provided trees and plants in the garden to help take care of Adam of Eve. Step 4. Give each student a green pipe cleaner and remind the students how things did not stay wonderful in the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and listened to the snake, everything changed. Guide the children in wrapping their green pipe cleaner snake around the trunk of the tree and up to the fruit. Tape the pipe cleaner snake into place to secure it. 26 THE BIG GOD STORY TRU Wonder Preschool and Kindergarten Lesson 1.2: Genesis 2-3, The Fall Ponder Point: God is Holy Props: Consider making a happy/sad face out of a paper plate to use in your story telling. I can't wait to learn more about The Big God Story and how God is perfect and holy. Before we go any further, let's pray and ask God to help us understand what he wants to teach us today. We know that God is Creator. God created the whole earth and everything in it. God is also holy. What does it mean when I say God is holy? Encourage children to answer; interact with their responses. Good thinking. Holy means that there isn't anyone or anything like God. It means he is perfect and we can't compare him to anything because there's no one like him. There will never be anyone like him. What are some things we know about God? Encourage children to share; interact with their responses. Yes. God is love, kind, forgiving, perfect, and the Creator. After God created the garden of Eden, there were two very special people he placed in the garden. What were their names? Encourage children to answer. That's right, they were named Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve lived in a perfect garden where they got to walk and talk with God. Can you show me your biggest smile? Interact with children and encourage them to smile their biggest smiles. In The Big God Story today there are going to be some things that make us happy, and there are going to be some things that make us sad. Can you show me your really sad face? Interact with children and encourage them to make the saddest face they can. Now you're going to have to pay very close attention because throughout this part of the story I'm going to ask you if you think something is happy or sad. If you think it's happy, then I want you smile your biggest smile but if you think it's sad, then I want you to make your saddest faces. Is everyone ready to get started? Great! Hold up Bible; open to Genesis 2 3. The Bible tells us that God saw all of his creation--the sun and the moon, the trees and the flowers, the birds and the fish, the lions and the giraffes, and especially Adam and Eve--and God said that everything was good! Does that sound happy or sad? Children smile. That's right! That's something to be very happy about! Everything was perfect. There was no pain or sadness. When God created people, he gave us something very special. God made it so that we could make choices. God wanted people to be able to choose to make good choices, and that meant they could also choose to make bad choices. How does it feel when you make a bad choice? Children make sad face. Well, just like you and me, Adam and Eve could choose to follow God or to disobey him. God wanted to help Adam and Eve make good choices, and so he gave them one rule to follow. He told them that they could eat anything they wanted except the fruit from one of the trees in the garden. One day Adam and Eve were in the garden and a snake came and told Eve a very big lie. He told Eve that she didn't have to follow God's rule. Eve believed the snake and shared the lie with Adam. Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and eat the fruit, even though God said they shouldn't. Do you think that was a good or bad choice? Children will answer. That's right, it was a bad choice, and how does that make us feel? Children make sad face.

27 Remember how we said that everything God created is perfect. Well, that was because God is perfect. God never makes mistakes or bad choices. Another way to say this is that God is holy. When Adam and Even made a bad choice, they became different. They sinned. But God is still perfect and holy. Because of their bad choice, Adam and Eve had to leave the garden. They wouldn't be able to walk and talk with God like they had before. God's creation wasn't perfect anymore. It was broken. Can you imagine how God felt? Children make sad face. That's right. This made God very sad, because he loved Adam and Eve so much! Do you think when Adam and Eve made a bad choice God loved them any less? No way! God still loved them just as much as always! Because God is holy and he loved them so much, he made a plan BIso that one day things could be perfect again and not broken. How does that make you feel? Children smile. That sure makes me happy, because we have all made bad choices, but God is good. God promised that one day he would send a Savior who would make a way for us to be with him forever and ever. Who is the promised Savior? Encourage children to answer. Jesus, that's right! Because of Jesus, all of our sins bad choices can be forgiven. God sent his perfect and holy Son so that we can be with God again, just like Adam and Eve were in the garden. God is so good. He is perfect and holy and loves us so much. How does that make you feel? Children smile. Me too! Friends, because of Jesus, all our sins can be forgiven, and when they are, we get to be with God forever and ever. Is that good news? Children answer. God's love is so big and he had a plan. God made a way for the people of the world to be with him forever and ever. Because God is holy we know that he kept his promise. Do you know who this Promise is? Children answer. That's right; it's Jesus! Because God sent Jesus--his holy and perfect Son to die on the cross, we can be with God forever and ever because he paid the price for our sin. God is good. He is unlike anyone or anything else. I WONDER QUESTIONS I wonder when does God love me? I wonder who needs to hear about Jesus, the promised Savior? I wonder how can I praise God for being holy?

WHERE WE RE HEADED NEXT TIME PONDER POINT: GOD IS A PROMISE KEEPER Noah and the Flood Genesis 6 9:17 God entrusts Noah with maintaining the future of humanity after He sends a flood to wipe out all life. God then placed a rainbow in the sky as a reminder of His covenant with Noah and all living creatures He would never again destroy all life with a flood. DID YOU KNOW? Share these facts to get the conversation started. God protected Noah, his family, and all the animals in the ark while it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Noah s family was in the ark for more than a year before God told them to open the doors and come out. God promised to never again flood the earth. He gave us the rainbow as a reminder that He keeps His word. CONNECT AS A FAMILY Gather your family together and get blank white paper and colored markers. Encourage each family member to draw a beautiful rainbow. As you draw, ask each person to share a story about a time they ve seen a rainbow. Read Genesis 7 8 and 9: After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together: How do you think Noah felt when God chose him to build the ark? Why did God send a rainbow? What can we be reminded of when we see a rainbow? Extend these questions into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God is a promise keeper into your everyday life as a family. 35 THE BIG GOD STORY TRU Wonder Preschool and Kindergarten Lesson 1.3: Genesis 6-9:17, Noah and the Flood Ponder Point: God is a Promise Keeper Props: butcher paper, streamers (Cut the crepe paper streamers in 3' lengths. Make sure you have one 3' streamer in each color.) Tape the butcher paper vertically on a wall using masking tape. Write "God Is a Promise Keeper" at the top using a marker. Place the crepe paper streamers within reach. You will tape them up as you tell the story. I can't wait to learn more about The Big God Story and how God is perfect and holy. Before we go any further, let's pray and ask God to help us understand what he wants to teach us today. Friends, God is Creator and he made everything in our world. God is holy and perfect. There's nothing or no one like God. When the first people chose to disobey God, sin came into the world. Things on earth were no longer perfect. God made a promise that one day He would send a Savior so we could be with him forever and ever! Who is the Savior? Encourage responses. Jesus, that's right! We can trust in God because He always keeps His promises. Why? Because God is a promise keeper. God is a promise keeper, and that is something to celebrate, so when you hear me say "promise keeper," we'll have a mini celebration by clapping together. Practice a few times with children. Open your Bible to Genesis 6 9:17. Many, many years after Adam and Eve left the garden, the people of the world had stopped listening to God and were being very mean to one another. This made God very sad, and because he is holy, something had to be done. God decided to fill the earth with water and wash everything away. Tape the blue streamer on the right side of the butcher paper, right underneath "God Is a Promise Keeper." Tape the short side to the top and leave the rest of the streamer to hang freely. Make sure to leave enough room on the right for the purple streamer, and enough room on the left for the other colors. He remembered the promise he made to send a Savior to save the people of the world from their sins. Tape the red streamer on the far left. Leave enough room between it and the blue streamer for three more colors. So, God looked at all of the people of the earth. He found one man who trusted and obeyed him. This man's name was Noah. God knew that Noah would be responsible to listen to his words and trust in him. God told Noah that it was going to rain very hard for many days. He told Noah to build a great big boat. Guess what Noah did? Children will answer. He did exactly what God said. Noah obeyed God and built the boat, just as God told him. Noah trusted God because he knew God is a promise keeper. Clap with children. Tape the orange streamer next to the red streamer, on the right. Noah must have had to chop down a lot of trees to use to build his boat. Tape the green streamer to the left of the blue streamer. Then, he must have carried lots of really heavy logs and cut the wood into the right sizes to make a boat. When he had all the pieces he needed, Noah hammered them together. His sons helped him. That wasn't all. We might imagine that after Noah had chopped down the trees, cut them, and hammered all of the pieces together, he would have also needed to paint a very sticky paint over the whole boat, to make sure that the water stayed out. When everything was ready, God sent the animals to the boat. Then the animals, Noah, and Noah's family got on the boat and something amazing happened... God shut the door!

36 Once all of the animals and Noah and his family were safe inside, water began to fall from the sky. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Then, the rain stopped! Tape the yellow streamer between the orange and green streamers. God said it wouldn't rain forever, and God always remembers his promises. Noah and his family waited for the earth to dry before they got off of the boat. Once it was time to leave, how do you think the family felt? As soon as Noah got off of the boat, he began to worship God. Tape the purple streamer to the right of the blue streamer. Why do you think Noah worshiped God as soon as he got off of the boat? Pause for children to respond; interact with their answers. Then God, the promise keeper, (clap with children) made a covenant a special promise with all the living creatures that would ever live on the earth, including you and me. God promised he would never flood the earth like that ever again. Then God gave us something so we would always remember this promise. Do you know what it might be? Use the rainbow you created out of streamers as a visual clue. Children will answer. It's a rainbow, that's right! When we see a rainbow in the sky, God sees it too. Friends, God promised to save Noah and his family. Did he save them? Encourage responses. Yes, He did. God promised he would remember his promise each time he saw the rainbow. Has God kept his promise? Encourage responses. Yes, he has. He has given us so many wonderful promises. The very best promise is Jesus! God said he would send a Savior to save us from our sins. Did he keep his promise? Children will answer. Yes, he did. And do you know what? Jesus promised that he would come back again someday! Will he keep his promise? Invite answers. Yes, he will, because God is a promise keeper. Clap with children. I WONDER QUESTIONS I wonder was it easy for Noah to trust God when no one else did? I wonder what did Noah and his family think about while they were on the ark? I wonder what are some other things God has promised? I wonder how has God kept his promises to me?

37 Date: Lesson 1.3 At Home Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. You ll find out what they learned today at church, and you can help them prepare for next week by exploring the theme (or Ponder Point) and spending time together in God s Word. WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK PONDER POINT: GOD IS A PROMISE KEEPER Noah and the Flood Genesis 6 9:17 God entrusts Noah with maintaining the future of humanity after He sends a flood to wipe out all life. God then placed a rainbow in the sky as a reminder of His covenant with Noah and all living creatures He would never again destroy all life with a flood. WHERE WE RE HEADED NEXT TIME PONDER POINT: GOD LOVES FAITH Abraham Genesis 12:1 7; 15; 17:1 8; Hebrews 11:8 10 Abraham trusted God and left his home for a new land. Because of his faith, God chose to make a covenant with Abraham. Through this covenant, Abraham was the father of the holy nation of Israel. DID YOU KNOW? Share these facts to get the conversation started. Faith is a combination of believing and action. Without faith, it s impossible to please God. God promised to bless Abraham and to make him the father of many nations, despite the fact that Abraham and his wife were advanced in years and had no children. Abraham chose to have faith in God s promises, and that faith was credited to him as righteousness. CONNECT AS A FAMILY Have your children sit in a circle and close their eyes. Then take a few familiar objects (books, toys, fruit, candy, etc.) and place them in their hands. See if they can guess what each item is by touching it. Once you ve given them time to tell you what each object is, ask how they knew what it was without seeing it. Then read Hebrews 11:1 3. Discuss that faith means believing without seeing. After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together: How do you think Abraham felt when God chose to make these promises to him? How would you feel if God asked you to leave your home and follow Him to a new and different land? What are some ways you can show your faith in God? Extend these questions into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God loves faith into your everyday life as a family. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child s name), remember that God always keeps his promises David C Cook. 46 THE BIG GOD STORY Lesson 1.4: Genesis 12:1-7, 15, 17:1-8, Hebrews 11:8-10, Abraham Ponder Point: God Loves Faith Props: Hearts punched out using the Elison machine (enough for each child), dark-colored butcher paper, white or yellow stars punched out using the Elison machine Tape the butcher paper to a wall. Write "God Loves Faith" with a white crayon at the top of the paper. I can't wait to learn more about The Big God Story and how God is perfect and holy. Before we go any further, let's pray and ask God to help us understand what he wants to teach us today. What do you think "faith" means? Encourage children to respond; interact with their answers. Those are great thoughts. Faith is when we choose to trust God, listen to his voice, and then obey his words. That's what faith is listening to God and then obeying him. God loves faith! Today, every time you hear me say the words "God loves faith," you can hold up the heart shape. Demonstrate and allow children to practice. Many years after Noah lived and walked with God, there lived a man named Abraham. When Abraham was alive, many people moved from place to place, so they lived in tents. But Abraham had a home, many animals, and a big family. One day, God asked Abraham and his wife, Sarah, to leave the life they knew and follow him. Abraham said yes to God. He had faith in God, and God loves faith. Have children hold up their heart shapes. This meant that now Abraham and his family would have to travel and live in tents. Now, let's open God's Word, the Bible, and see what God wants to teach us today. Open Bible to Genesis 12. Do you know how Abraham met God? Pause for children to answer. Good thinking. God introduced himself to Abraham by speaking to him! Isn't that amazing? God said, "Abraham, Abraham, I want you to leave your home and follow me to a new land, a land that I will give to you." What do you think Abraham was thinking when he heard God's voice? Do you think he knew it was the one true God? How? Interact with children and their responses. What was God asking Abraham to do? Children will answer. That's right. Abraham had faith in God. Read Hebrews 11:8-10. How do you think God felt about that? Pause for children to respond. Good thoughts. God loves faith. Prompt children to hold up their hearts. He loves when his people trust and obey him. Friends, what did Abraham do when God spoke to Him? Children will answer; interact with their responses. When he heard God's voice, Abraham decided to trust and obey the Lord. He didn't know where his new home would be, but Abraham followed God's directions because he had faith in God. God loves faith. Prompt children to hold up their hearts. After traveling for many miles, Abraham and his family finally reached their new land. Then they stopped and worshiped God together. God spoke to Abraham once again. "Abraham, Abraham, I want to make my covenant with you!" What is a covenant? Pause for kids to answer. Good thinking. A covenant is a very special promise. What kind of promise do you think God made with Abraham? Pause for kids to answer; interact with their responses. He said "Abraham, Abraham, I promise to give you lots of children. I promise to make you into a great nation. I will bless you, and through you I will bless the whole world. I will be your

47 God, and you will be my people." Wow! That's a very special promise. This was a very special job God gave to Abraham. He was going to be the father of a very big nation. Have kids help you put pre-taped stars on the butcher paper. God told Abraham to go outside and look at the night sky. What do you think Abraham saw? Children will answer. That's right, he saw lots of stars. The Lord told Abraham he was going to have so many people in his family they would outnumber the stars in the sky. He also gave Abraham's family a very special job. Do you know what that was? Pause for kids to answer. Good thinking. God wanted Abraham's family to show the entire world how to know God and have faith in him! God loves faith. Prompt children to hold up their hearts. One day someone very, very special would come from Abraham's family. Can you guess who that is? Children will answer. Jesus, that's right! Friends, God still looks for people who will trust and obey him. God loves faith. Prompt children to hold up their hearts. The world still needs to know God and how to follow him. The world needs to know Jesus. When we love people, we show them how to trust and obey God. Throughout the entire Big God Story, God shows us that he is bigger than anyone or anything and we can trust him! I WONDER QUESTIONS I wonder how did Abraham trust God? (reference Hebrews 11:8-10) I wonder how do I know I can trust God? I wonder how can I use my faith to show others they can trust and obey him too?

48 Date: Lesson 1.4 At Home Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. Because of his faith, God chose to make a covenant with Abraham. Through this covenant, Abraham was the father of the holy nation of Israel. WHERE WE RE HEADED NEXT TIME PONDER POINT: GOD IS BIGGER (PART I) Joseph and His Family Genesis 37; Sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph trusted God, who proved to be bigger than any horrible circumstance. DID YOU KNOW? Share these facts to get the conversation started. Joseph s brothers were motivated by their jealousy of him when they sold him into slavery. God used Joseph s life experiences, both good and bad, to train him for what lay ahead. God used Joseph to save many lives, including those of his own family, as he was reunited with his brothers during a great famine. CONNECT AS A FAMILY Spend some extra time with your children while putting them to bed. Begin a conversation about the things that worry them. Share with them that God uses everything in our lives for His good even things that worry us. Then, read the story of Joseph in Genesis 37 and 50:20. Share with your children that God was able to use the events in Joseph s life for good. After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together: How do you think Joseph felt when his brothers sold him into slavery? How did God use the bad choice of Joseph s brothers for good? Remind your child that God can use their life experiences for good too! Extend these questions into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God is bigger into your everyday life as a family. REMEMBER VERSE The Remember Verse focuses on a character trait of God that s highlighted in next week s portion of The Big God Story.
