1 September 30, 2018 Bible Story Focus: God keeps His promises. Noah (God s Promise) Genesis 8:1 9:17 Memory Verse: Trust the LORD with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5, NCV Key Question: Who keeps His promises? Bottom Line: God keeps His promises. Basic Truth: God loves me. Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Activities that encourage preschoolers to enter the classroom and begin engaging with peers and Small Group Leaders by providing age appropriate and hands on fun while introducing new concepts they will hear in the day s Bible story. 1. Coloring Sheet-introduces the Bible story/concept 2. Theme Table-Colorific This month s Colorific theme is going to help us teach preschoolers that God keeps His promises. We ve all experienced a broken promise or two and our preschoolers won t have to wait long to experience one too. We want them to grow up knowing that God always keeps His promises. No matter how long we have to wait, God will come through. This is a great time to reinforce this month s bottom line and introduce the Bible Story focus! This week s Bible story focus is on Noah (God s plan) and I can believe God s promises! Explore fun color themed activities together! This week s color is red! Key Question: Who keeps His promises? Children Respond: Bottom Line: God keep His promises! Gather children for a Large Group time that includes interactive worship and the Bible story. Worship: Inviting People to Respond to God Engage kids hearts through dynamic and interactive worship in a Large Group setting. Use the monthly song provided with the curriculum to lead your preschoolers in worship. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions. 2 What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5, NCV. this month s worship song, Promises, on the Dance Moves DVD, Hip Hip Hooray! WORSHIP LEADER: Yay! It s finally here. It s rainbow day. On the count of three, everyone tell me what their favorite color is. One, two, three! (Pause.) Wow! I heard a lot of awesome colors. God made each and every one of those colors for us. Isn t that awesome? And today we re going to hear about how God made the rainbow to remind us that [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. Who keeps His promises? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. WORSHIP LEADER: Yes, He does! Let s sing our song one last time. (Lead children in singing Promises, this month s worship song.) You are awesome singers. Tell me again: Who keeps His promises? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. WORSHIP LEADER: Yes! [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. We can trust that each and every day. Let s say our memory verse together one last time. Are you ready? Do it with me. CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5 (open your hands like a book). (Repeat several times.) WORSHIP LEADER: You all have it now! Great job! Story: Communicating God s Truth in Engaging Ways Engage kids hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible story and prayer experience in a Large Group setting. These scripts are written to be told and not read. Advanced preparation is necessary. Bible Story What You Need: A Bible STORYTELLER: (Holding Bible.) We ve been learning all month long something very special about God s promises. Who keeps His promises? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. 3 STORYTELLER: Yes, He does! Last week we learned that God told a man named Noah to build a big boat called an ark. Now how big was the ark? Was it like this toy boat? CHILDREN: No! STORYTELLER: Nope. Was it like a sailboat? CHILDREN: No! STORYTELLER: No, bigger than that. The ark was HUGE! Remember, God told Noah to build this big boat, and did he do it? (Pause for responses.) Yes! Noah did exactly what God told him to do. Then God sent two of EVERY animal to Noah that s why the ark had to be SO big. It had to fit two giraffes, two elephants, two rhinos, and ALL their food! So Noah put all the animals in the ark just like God told him to. God said, Get your family, Noah, and stay on the boat because I promise to keep you all safe. And did God keep them safe? (Pause for responses.) Of course! Because [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. Even after it rained for 40 whole days and 40 whole nights covering the WHOLE earth with water, God kept them safe. After lots and lots of days, the water went down and land began to appear. Noah didn t know if it was safe to come out yet, so he sent a dove to see if the bird could find land. Everyone, flap like a bird for me. (Flap like a bird.) And do you know what happened? After Noah sent the bird out, the bird came back. Do you know what that means? There s no dry land yet. They can t go out yet! Later, Noah sent a dove out again. Everyone flap like a bird. This time, the bird brought back a branch. Do you know what that means? There are trees! Everyone wave your arms to do a happy tree dance! (Pause as children wave their arms.) This was great news. If there were trees, then there was land! But just to make sure, Noah sent the dove out one more time. And this time it didn t come back! It had found a place to live! God told Noah, It s safe now. You can come out of the ark and bring all the animals with you. God kept them safe just like He promised. And then God made a rainbow! The rainbow was a sign of Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2018 The rethink Group. All rights reserved. 3
4 the promise between God and every living creature that God would never flood the whole earth again. Rainbows are so beautiful, aren t they? I love it when I see a rainbow, because it helps me remember that [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. Who keeps His promises? CHILDREN: [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. STORYTELLER: Yes, he does! Let s pray. PRAYER STORYTELLER: Heavenly Father, You are an awesome, amazing, creative God. Thank You for the promise You made to Noah when You placed that first rainbow in the sky. Help us to remember EVERY time we see a rainbow that You always keep Your promises to us. We love You, God. Amen. Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Create a safe place to connect through activities that are written to reach every learning style while reinforcing the Bottom Line that was introduced during the Bible Story and applying it to real life experiences. In addition, these activities provide preschoolers with an opportunity to build relationships with their Small Group Leader. 1. Rainbow Filter Live for God Application Activity Made to Create: An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, Bottom Line, or memory verse by creating a craft What You Need: Rainbow Label Activity Page, Avery #5160 labels or equivalent, light blue cardstock (1 piece per child), large coffee filters (1 per child), water, eye droppers, and markers What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy the Rainbow Label Activity Page onto the label paper and set aside. During the Activity: Give each child a coffee filter and the markers. Encourage the children to decorate the entire filter with the markers. Use the eye dropper to drop water onto the decorated filter. The colors will run together. Place the wet filter directly onto the cardstock to dry and take home. After the Activity: Help the children place the label onto the top of the cardstock above the filter. What You Say: Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2018 The rethink Group. 5 Before the Activity: We are going to make a really cool rainbow with water! During the Activity: First we need to put a lot of color onto our rainbow. Use the markers to decorate your ENTIRE filter. (Do activity.) Great job! Now it is time for the really cool part! (Finish activity.) After the Activity: God put a rainbow in the sky to show that He always keeps His promises. He kept His promise to Noah, and He will keep His promises to us too! Who keeps His promises? [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises! 2. Wonder DVD If you have time you may show the Wonder! Look at God s Story DVD to reinforce the lesson.
