Second, It means God's chosen savior basically riht? Jesus bein God saves and Christ bein anointed one chosen one? Third, do you think He was named Jesus because it means savior? Or more specifically because he was named after Joshua who was one of the clearest foreshadowins of Christ? Re: question about Jesus' name - posted by twayneb (), on: 2010/6/13 14:16 I am not a Hebrew scholar by any stretch of the imaination, but I think Yeshua is simply Joshua in Enlish. The name Yeshua can also be trasliterated from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to Enlish as Jesus. The name was nothin special in it self as many people before and after bore that name. Mashiach "Messiah" is very sinificant because there is only one who can bear this name. Christos in the Greek meant the anointed one and thouh it is probably most descriptive of Jes us' anointin with the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus Christ is our savior, but the name "Jesus" in and of itself does not, I think, mean savior. Interestinly enouh I heard a top 40 son that was playin on Israeli radio and in the discos in Israel ab out six or seven years ao that included the line, "Meshiach, Mechiac, Meshiac..." and was all about the comin Messiah. His name is esentially His reputation. I have started to realize that a name is incredibly important to God. And we will each be iven a name that no one knows. God's names cannot be separated from who He is. DOESN'T MATTHEW 1: say directly: "And she shall brin forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it miht be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, sayin, Behold, a virin shall be with child, and shall brin forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which bein interpreted is, God with us." There is alot to be found usin, say, The Blue Letter Bible with the Stron's numbers. But that is the heart of it: That is the first thin to say don't you think. Of course yes, I aree, as our resurrected Lord showed the two on the Road to Emmaus, the scriptures speak of Him, He is throuhout His Word, redemption, the Gospel, the comin Christ, He is walked out in part, in flesh and blood history. But the Matthew passae,the Greek and referenced Hebrew of it, nail the stickin point for the Jews at the time, and today: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, as John puts it (John 20:31). I aree very much about the importance of "His name", "life throuh His name". John 8:30-59 makes a clear distiction ab out the difference believin in Him can make without continuin into the truth of His name. As an addendum to His name, "ha" is the qualifier between the name and title. The name of Adonai is YHVH, pronounced Yaweh, not Jehovah. Jehovah is a perversion of hebrew vernacular by North ern European Assyrians (aka: Germans). It was because of the harsh utteral linuistic means of expression that the Y became a J. Because there were no vowels in Adonai's name, they took the Germanic pronounced vowel sounds of elo him, and placed them between the consonants. YHVH became revealed as YHShVH in His earthly presence. The modern Hebrew pronounciation of YHShVH is Yeshu ah. So we et "Yeshuah ha' Meschiach'. This thread has been watched and you cause wonder as to why this is so sinificant? The power of His name is in reco nition of His: presence, purpose, and power...not in the way this is pronounced. God is God to all nations (includin thos e with speech impediments). Aapeo, Re: - posted by anonymity, on: 2010/6/28 21:51 watched? anyways, um, thanks for your input but it is not specifically the answer to the specific question that i asked. i already know the hebrew pronunciation and YHVH thin. the initial responses stated the names Jesus and Christ were from Latin. then I already know the Hebrew pronunciation. the question is now what is the true enlish translation? i mean why use latin words probably from the catholic church. i would rather even use the hebrew pronunciation. but since i speak enlish maybe it would be ood to speak in enlish. and i think the correct enlish word is joshua and messiah. this isnt a hue deal but i am curious to know. its just a question. and i think its weird that im bein "watched" but i uess there are weird people. but all im doin is askin a question. im also not tryin to cause "wonder" i think i have a reason f or my question. anyways not bein rude just tryin to clear up the thins you were sayin because they seemed a bit off. back to the topic i hope to hear what people have to say about the enlish renderin of the name Jesus Christ. The reason for the first post from here was to clear up the mispellin and possible misunderstandin reardin how you started this thread. As, well, if you really wanted to be literal about pronounciation of these names, it was put in black an d white. Why not say His name as it oriinates? Probably the same reason you miht not want to use Joshua. However, if you wish to be entirely accurate, the J is from t he Germanic utteralizin of the Y in 'Y'Hoshua'. How that? Messiah also contains within the meanin of the word "God's annointed" as well as Go d's chosen redeemer kin. Christ, dependin on context,...welll, let's just say this refers to the annointin (of God). As a title it is "God's annointed." His name shall be called Yeshuah... Jesus Christ is the usual way the Enlish speakin say His name. Germans say Jesus Christus. For the prophet/leader of the Israelites succeedin Moshe, Germans say Joshua or sometimes Josua. Enlish reconize the name Joshua to be him. Personally, i try to consider my audience, and use the rendition of His name most appropriate towards the hearer/reader s understandin.
