3 Introduction The light of Islam Academy has been providing innovative Islamic learning for our masjid children for many years and now it presents "Heavens Keys" - a new initiative designed after much thought and deliberation to meet the needs of a developing. aspirational Muslim community. Heavens Keys will equip you with essential Islamic knowledge enabling you to fulfil your obligation of worshiping the Lord Almighty in a manner that He ought to be. introduction Modular System The Course will cover the basics of the Islamic Sciences without the need for an in depth knowledge of Arabic. Qualified. English speaking scholars will deliver their lessons in the English language using translations of traditional texts. Supporting the regular local teachers will be eminent guest lecturers from across the UKand the Islamic world. This is your opportunity to embark on a two year course that will reshape your life. Class Times The classes will take place on Sundays from 10:00 am - 1:OOpm with optional classes on weekday evenings. All course material will be provided by the academy. the cost of which will be included in the enrolment fee. c
4 Enrolment In order to gain the most from each educational session places on the course have been limited, therefore please apply as soon as possible. We are an inclusive institution and therefore admissions are open to all - regardless of gender, race and creed. 6 teachers Maulana Mohammed Shabbir Sialvi Subject: TaFsir and Hadith Initial religious education was conducted under the tutelage of his honourable father Maulana Muhammad Bashir Sialvi (R.A.). Having completed his A-levels he left for Pakistan to complete the traditional Dars-e-Nizami course. Whilst studying at Jamia Nizamia Rizvia (Lahore). he also completed a B.A. in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Sargodha University. Upon returning to the U.K. he undertook an extensive hadeeth course at Suffa-tul-Islam (Bradford) under the tutelage of Sheikh Muhammad Habib-ur-Rahman Mahboobi. whilst at the same time undertaking further studies with Sheikh Shams-ul-Huda Misbahi. At present he is teaching at Jamia Masjid Chashtiah (Rochdale) and is part way through a BSc in physics. Imam Muhammad Ramzan al-azhari Subject: Arabic Language After completing his secondary and further education in his home town of Rochdale (UK) Imam Ramzan then went on to study Higher Islamic Studies at Jamia AI-Karam where under the guidance of the honourable Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada. he completed the traditional Dars-e-Nizami syllabus. Upon graduating he furthered his studies for two years at the renowned AI-Azhar University in Cairo. Egypt. where he attained a BA Degree in Islamic Studies. Upon returning from Egypt he comleted his PGCEqualification and taught GCSE Urdu at a state school in Halifax. He has recently spent 6 months in Madinah Shareef teaching English as well as improving his own Arabic.
7 Shaykh Atabek Shukurov Nasafi Subject: Hanafi Hqh At the young age of ten, Shaykh Atabek Shukurov Nasafi began his religious studies in his native Uzbekistan. He completed his studies at the age of 21 in various subjects including Arabic Language, Hadith, Fiqh, Tafsir and Tajwid at Madrasa Abul Qasim and Jamia Islamia in Uzbekistan. In 1998 he moved to Damascus, Syria, for higher studies with some of the finest scholars of our time. He enrolled on a four year "al-ijaza al-alimiyya" programme at the Takhassus Institute which is affiliated to AI Azhar University, Egypt. He graduated in 2003 after spending the final year at AI Azhar University and was given certification by the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy. teachers Imam Irfan Chishti MBE Subject: Seerah Imam Muhammad Irfan Faizi Chishti MBE graduated with a Law degree in 1995 after which he embarked on a 7 year path of higher education specialising in theology and language. His studies took him to Jamia AI Karam in Retford as well as to AI-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt. Upon returning to the UK he completed his PGCEto qualify as a teacher and a Masters degree from the University of Manchester. Imam Irfan has worked in many North West schools as an R.E. teacher and has been instrumental in establishing The light of Islam Academy at Jamia Masjid Chashtiah and designed a ten year curriculum to take the young regular mosque attendees on a path of spiritual, innovative and inspiring learning. c
8 teachers Guest Lecturers As well as regular teachers, we will from time to time invite special guest speakers to deliver lectures relevant to the course. We hope this will enrich the students' learning experience on this unique course. Sayyid Saad ol-bttos Monthly guest lecturer Abu Shu'oub Saad bin Faruq bin Ali Ba Alawi ol-bttos is a South African Sunni Muslim Scholar with roots extending to Yemen. He is a grandson of the Holy Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). He graduated from the Shorl'o institute run by the Tahdhib wa Tollrn endowment in Damascus, Syria. He was in ~ the four year, accelerated program. He is currently resident CLEMENT'~ATE scholar at Clements Gate Institute in Bradford as well as teaching in Dewsbury, Keighly and Preston subjects such as Tazkiya, Tajweed, Seerah and Shafi'i fiqh. Ustadha Amina Latif Ustadha Amina studied science at school and university with the intention of becoming a doctor! However once she started at university she changed course to study Arabic in which she graduated with a first from the university of Manchester. She studied Tajweed in Damascus, Syria as well as Amman, Jordan. Ustadha Amina has an ijaza to teach tajweed from Shaykh Muhiyuddeen Hasan al Kurdi. Since returning to the UKshe has been teaching tajweed for the past 10 years. She also currently teaches basic aqeeda and hanafi fiqh, with authorizations from Shaykh Muhammad bin Yahya an-ninowy.

10 tafseer Tafseer (Translation and brief commentary of the Our'on) Tafseer will be taught according to three different themes: 1) Qasas or stories from the Qur'an 2) Ayat al Ahkam or legally relevant verses that form the basis for deriving legal rules. Their number totals approximately five hundred. These were gradually revealed on various occasions during the years following the Prophet's (Sallallahu alaihi uio aalihi uio sallam) Hijrah. 3) Selected Suras from the Qur'an. We will go through the exeqesls of the Suras of the 30th Juz as well as the more famous ones such as Sura Yo-Sin, AI Rahman etc The recommended Quran translation for the course is The Jamal ul Quran, published by Zia ul Quran publications.
11 Hadith I Tasawwuf A hadith is a saying, action or silent approval of Rasool-ullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam). The world renowned anthology of ahadith "Riyadh-us-Saliheen" compiled by Imam AI-Nawawi will be used to cover this subject. There are many reasons for selecting this compilation ahead of others. These ahadith have been carefully selected by Imam AI-Nawawi from very authentic source mainly "Sohlh Bukhari" and "Sohlh Muslim" and they cover a variety of topics. This variety of topics presents an opportunity to merge the subject of Tasawwuf with the study of hadith. hadith Some of the topics studied in semester one: Sincerity - Repentance - Patience - Truthfulness - Meditation - Taqwa - Following the Sunnah - Obedience to Allah- Bld'oh/ innovation - Enjoining good and forbidding bad - Preaching without practice - Returning entrusted items - Oppression - Rights of Muslims - Concealing sins of others - Helping others - Creating peace amongst people - Virtues of the poor - Rights of women - Spending on family - Sacrificing beloved things - Rights of neighbours...
12 Fiqh Fiqh - Jurisprudence In this strand of the course we will aim to give the students a deep understanding of Islamic rulings regarding Islamic worship and rituals according to the Hanafi school of Fiqh. This will include, but will not be limited to Salah, Fasting, Zakah, Hajj, Nikaah (marriage) and Talaq (divorce) etc. The core texts for this subject will consist of "Noor-ul-Idaah (English)" and "Mukhtasar ul Qudoori (English)", both very highly regarded books of Hanafi Fiqh and both part of the traditional Aalim course(dars-e-nizami)syllabus taught throughout the world. 13 c Aqa'id (Beliefs/Islamic Theoloqu) This section will discuss modern as well as orthodox theological debates, discussing in detail, specificollu those beliefs which are now disputed and especlollu those beliefs which are considered the core of Islamic beliefs. This part of the course will examine in some detail the view point of the Ahl-us-Sunnahwal Jamaa'ah in relation to beliefs that are currentlu contended. Suchdiscussions will be evidence orientated with the intention of understanding the orthodox point of view. aqa'id The core topics will include: - Tawheed - Oneness of God - Risalah - Prophethood - Conternpororu debates - Taqleed - Following legal opinion of scholars - Flqh debates
14 seerah Seerah (life of Aasul-ullah and Islamic Hlstoru) The blessed Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) was sent as a guide for hurnonltu. It is impossible for us to trulu understand Islam without studulnq the life of Rasul-ullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) in some detail. The text which has been selected for this part of the course is Muhammad bu M lings (Abu Bakr Siraj ud Din). This book is highly regarded in Islamic circles and is considered one of the best books written in English. Notes taken from the famous Zia un Nabi by Justice Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah RA to discuss the Seerah and a brief look at Islamic history especially the times of the righteous caliphs. The course will be split into the following core topics: - Birth - Announcement of prophethood - Announcement - Hijrah - Hijrah - Passing - Rights of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam)
15 c Tajweed Correct recital and pronunciation of the holy Qur'an is of paramount importance. Therefore all students will be trained in the science of Tajweed (correct recital of the Qur'an) by teachers with training and Ijaza from qualified teachers. This part of the course will also include a small amount of memorising of the holy Our'on. mainly from section thirty. tajweed The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "One who treads a path in search of knowledge has his path to Paradise made easy by God... 16 arabic Arabic Language The Arabic Language module will be taught using the popular 3 volume Madinah University course textbooks. Over the years, these textbooks have enabled students to become competent in their use of the Arabic language and to participate and benefit from using and learning from Quranic ayahs, hadith, fiqh, sirah, history, and classical and modern Arabic literature. No prior knowledge is required except for familiarity with the Arabic script. If you are able to read the Quran then that will be enough for you to start this course and hopefully by the end of the course you will be able to understand much of what you read. This course module is optional and classes will be held continuously for the duration of the two years.

Yes, there will be seperate facilities for sisters. How long is the coure? It is a 2 year course taught in a modular system. Do i have to buy my own books? No, the core texts will be provided upon payment of the course registration fee. What happens if i fall behind? Our Student liason Officer will keep regular track of your progress and provide additional support classes when needed. What if i cannot afford the fees?
