2 Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, On behalf of the Muslim Youth of St. Louis (MYSTL), I would like to welcome you to our 12th Annual Seminar. During this weekend, we are honored to be hosting special guests from all over the country, such as Mufti Hussain Kamani, Ustadh Wisam Sharieff, and Sister Zulfat Suara. We also have the pleasure of inviting local scholars like Ustadh Shamaas Nyazee and Shaykh Djilali Kacem. This year, our seminar s theme is Piecing Together a Broken Ummah. We will be discussing the issues that plague our world and how we as individuals can solve them. During this weekend, we pray that we will find this knowledge beneficial and that we will be able to apply this in our daily lives. In order to have the most beneficial and enjoyable seminar possible, we ask that you please follow these guidelines at all times:» Please refrain from interrupting any of the speakers during their sessions. S P E A K E R S M U F T I H U S S A I N K A M A N I began his pursuit of the Islamic studies at the young age of six to memorize the entire Quran.

For 7 years, Mufti Kamani studied a rigorous curriculum covering the Arabic language and literature, Islamic jurisprudence, Tafseer of the Holy Qur an, Hadith, Islamic Philosophy, and Aqeedah.

He currently serves as an Imam and is on the Board of Directors for the Islamic Association of Carrollton.

To further advance his studies in the Islam, he traveled to the United Kingdom and pursued formal Islamic authorizations. For 7 years, Mufti Kamani studied a rigorous curriculum covering the Arabic language and literature, Islamic jurisprudence, Tafseer of the Holy Qur an, Hadith, Islamic Philosophy, and Aqeedah. He was selected for a postgraduate level course in Islamic Law and Legal Verdicts. He earned his graduate degree in Business Management from the University of Coventry in the UK. He currently serves as an Imam and is on the Board of Directors for the Islamic Association of Carrollton. He is also an instructor for the Qalam Institute and many have benefited from his podcast series on the 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi. I M A M W I S A M S H A R I E F F is the founder of Advocating Quranic Literacy (AQL), an institute focused on educating communities on how to read, memorize, and understand the Qur an. He has taught over 15,000 students worldwide through traveling seminars, long-term study, and online instruction. He graduated from the Qur an Academy in Lahore, Pakistan with a bachelor s degree in Arabic grammar and a minor in Arabic literature. His studies include studying personally with Dr. Israr Ahmed (R) for one year, studying a summer in Makkah, and earning his ijaazah in Egypt in the Hafs an Aasim s recitation. Ustadh Wisam is also a certified radiology technician. I M A M A N W A R A R A F A T is the Imam of Masjid Arrahman, in Memphis, TN. He is also a speaker for iera. He went to school in Gaza City, fully in Arabic, and was enrolled in Qur an memorization and Islamic Studies classes at the mosque for several years. He has a Bachelor s Degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Islamic Studies. He also studied at Ma had Al-Furqaan in Kuwait, where he doubled as the program s translator. He s a cofounder of the Muslim Community Center of Utah, and was an Imam and an assistant Imam for several years in Utah before moving to Memphis, TN.

She also helps with organizing youth events with Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Islamic Center. She now lives in Columbus, Ohio with her family. In 2007, Mufti Asif continued his education by enrolling in a course to specialize in the field of issuing legal verdicts (iftaa) in Durban, South Africa. He then traveled to Cairo, Egypt where he spent a few months studying spoken Arabic at Al-Diwan Center, as well as studying privately under scholars from Al-Azhar University. Mufti Asif has served as the Imam of the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis since early 2012, and is actively involved in other organizations, including the Imam Council of Greater St. Louis, the West St. Louis County Interfaith Discussion Group, and serving on the cabinet of the Interfaith Partnership of St. Louis. U S T A D H S H A M A A S N Y A Z E E was born and raised here in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing his hifdh with Shaykh Haroon at Darul Qur'an Foundation in 2010, he travelled to Faisalabad, Pakistan and studied at Jamia Hassanain, the jamia started by renowned scholar and orator, Shaykh Tariq Jameel. He completed his studies in six years under senior teachers such as Shaykh Ramzi Al Habib, Shaykh Ubaidullah and Mufti Ahmed Ali. After graduating in 2016, he returned to the US and is now teaching at the branch of Hassanain in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Zulfat is the recipients of many awards and recognitions including, the 2015 FBI Director s Community Leadership Award, Mpower Change -100 Muslim social justice leaders in the U.S., and more. On October 26, 2015, she was inducted into the Tennessee Women Hall of Fame by the Tennessee Economic Council on Women. S H E I K H D J I L A L I K A C E M is originally from Algeria. He was an imam in Colorado before coming to St Louis. Here, Kacem delivers khutbahs, represents the community in interfaith circles, delivers weekly lectures, and provides marriage and youth consultation at the Dar al Jalal Mosque. B R Y A N T R E G I N A L D M O S S is an American stand-up comedian and writer. He began practicing comedy at the age of seven, when he earned the nickname 'Preacher' for his imitations of the pastor at his family's church. Moss started out doing sketch comedy when he was 17 and by his early 20s he began to make his way to comedy clubs. In May 2004, Preacher and other Muslim comedians launched a comedy tour titled Allah Made Me Funny. It has toured 30 U.S. cities, as well as Canada, Europe, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Preacher uses his experiences of being black and Muslim in America as a vantage point for asides on race and religion.

It addressed humanity at large without any regard for time or place. Ummah is an Arabic word meaning community. Unity is being united, no matter what. What does it mean to be a united Ummah? ISHA SALAH 8:00PM THE COMMUNAL OBLIGATION OF A MUSLIM 8:20PM-9:15PM Lecture by: Ustadh Wisam Sharieff and Ustadh Shamaas Nyazee Our ummah is spread around the world, but many of us have lost the feeling of empathy for the suffering of our fellow Muslims. What are we doing to help and acknowledge their suffering? Sahih al-bukhari states, The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever. What is the ego (nafs), and why is it such a formidable foe? The current Muslim crisis can be solved only by inner change. But first we must learn to change our own condition so that it may help bring about the change we want in the world.
