1 In the name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School Newsletter February Ottawa, CA Assalaamu alaikum dear friends Read it online at.. abischool.com Our Holy Lady: Sayyedah Fatima Az-Zahra (PBUH) It was in the 5 th year, or the end of the 4 th year before Hijra, when Archangel Gabriel, appeared before our Prophet (Peace and prayers be upon him and his Ahlul-Bayt) and announced to him: "0 Mohammad! God Almighty has sent you His Greet- ings, and He orders you to keep yourself away from Khadijah for forty days!" Our Prophet, even though he had a great affection and sweet feelings for his sweet and kind wife, Sayyedah Khadijah, in order to obey God Almighty, submitted himself to this ordeal. So, for forty days, our Prophet spent his days in fasting, and his nights in deep meditation and prayers, until Archangel Gabriel came down to Earth once again and announced to him: "0 Mohammad! God sends His supreme Greetings to you! He orders you to be prepared for His precious and worthy gift, and His best wishes." Archangel Gabriel then provided a meal from the Jannah (heavenly gardens) for him, and said: "0 Mohammad! You should eat from this meal..." After our Prophet broke his fast, by eating from the Heavenly plate that Archangel Gabriel had offered him, he received the order to go home, to his sweet and dear wife. After this event, Archangel Gabriel came down to our Prophet (ppbuhab), and announced to him: "God has given His solemn Oath to Himself that this very night, a child shall be conceived from you and your wife." The women of her tribe didn't approve of her marriage to Prophet Mohammad (ppbuhab). When she became pregnant, the unborn baby, in her womb, became her only friend in her isolation and solitude... One day, when Sayyedah Khadijah was talking with the baby, still in her womb, our Prophet Mohammad (ppbuhab) entered the house, and asked her most curiously, with whom she had been talking in his absence?! She told him what was happening... Our Prophet said to her: "Archangel Gabriel has told me about my beloved daughter. My race would be coming forth from the womb of this very daughter. There will be religious leaders, who shall come to this world, from this lineage, and after the ending of the Revelations to me, these descendants of mine, shall be my rightful successors..." Sayyedah Khadijah spent her days of pregnancy in this manner, and finally, the happy day in which her beloved daughter was destined to be born, arrived. Prophet Mohammad (ppbuhab) sent messages to the women of Qoraysh, so that they would come and help his tender and beloved wife for the delivery of the child. The women refused to do so, and replied: "she didn't listen to us when we told her not to get married to you! Why did she get married to a poor man like you...?!" But God, The Merciful, was aware of the hard condition of Khadijeh, and He wouldn't leave her alone... he sent some of His Intimates to help her out... March Break! School will be closed for March Break. The last day of school will be March 7, 2014 and we will resume on Monday, March 17, 2014 insha Allah. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. 2 Just as Sayyedah Khadijah was beginning to deliver her baby, she suddenly saw four women entering unexpectedly into her private room. They were enveloped by a heavenly Light that filled her room... They were none others than: Sara (Abraham's wife), Assieh (Mozahem's daughter and Pharo's wife), Mary (Imran's daughter and the mother of Jesus), and Safoura (Joshua's daughter). With the gracious help that they procured, she could deliver her baby safely into the world. The baby, as soon as she opened her innocent and beautiful eyes into the world, began to talk. She said: "I testify to the great Mission of my holy father bestowed upon him by the Merciful God. My father is the last Prophet, and he is the Messenger of God! My husband is the patron of great men, and my two sons, are the heralds of our religion..." The Angels brought forth the joyous news of Fatima's birth to the Heavens, and because of her birth, there appeared a brilliant light in the sky, and it lighted everywhere! Never had the Angels of Heavens seen such a beautiful and bright light in Heavens! This holy baby had nine names: Faatemah (فاطمه) ( Saajighah )(ساجده) Mobaarakah )(مبارآه) Taaherah )(طاهره) Zakiyyah (زآي ه) ( Radiyyah ( (رضي ه) Mardiyyah ( (مرضي ه) Mohaddethah ( (م ح دثه) And, of course, az-zahra ( (الز هراء) )... Science Fair Are You Ready? The school will be hosting a Science Fair on Friday March 21 st between 1:40 and 3:00 for grades 3-8. Students can enter projects in the categories of experiments or studies. Teachers make it mandatory to enter projects as part of their science programs. Please watch for information from your child s teacher. There are some good books available through the library on doing science projects, or go on line to the internet for ideas. These projects will be judged and marked and the top entries will receive a prize from the school. Parents, please have your children set up their displays between 8:00 and 8:15 on March 21. Parents are welcome to visit the fair between 1:40 and 3:00. All students who participate in the fair will be at the gym at 1:40. Parents need to pick up their children s displays between 2:45 and 3:00. Interruptions to Class Time We are trying to lower the number of times we interrupt teachers in their classrooms. Each time we call into a classroom, teachers lessons and students concentration are interrupted. We kindly ask parents to help us by calling ahead to let us know what time you would like to pick up your children. This way we can let staff know ahead of time and have children ready and waiting in the main office. Germs acquired through inadequate hand washing can cause illness such as colds, flu, pneumonia, diarrheas and vomiting. Germs are easily spread through coughing; sneezing, hand-tohand contact and using shared objects. Germs accumulate on your hands as you perform daily activities and begin to spread through contact with your eyes, mouth, nose and to other surfaces. Teaching children the importance of good hand washing can reduce or prevent their incidence of illness thereby increasing their opportunity for learning in a healthier environment.

If interested in purchasing a school yearbook, the deadline for ordering is March 28, The cost of the yearbook is $25 per book. You can send a cheque to the office, made out to Ahlul Bayt Islamic School. Head Lice Check Head lice is a common problem in schools. While not dangerous, the issue of head lice is extremely time-consuming and irritating to deal with. The issue of head lice can only be dealt with if families and schools work together. To control the spread of head lice, it is essential that parents regularly check their children and appropriately treat them if affected. Periodically, or upon request, classes are checked for head lice by the office. We check the entire class so that one or two students are not singled out. If a student is found infected with lice or the nits, he/she will be sent home to receive treatment. Before students are allowed back in school they must be treated and be nit free. Any student sent home for head lice must check back in at the office before he/she goes to class. A reminder that Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School is a scentfree environment. Strong perfumes & cologne may affect those with allergies or sensitivities. Your cooperation and assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. AntiAnti-Bullying Event at ABIS The last Wednesday of February is known as Anti-Bullying Day in Canada. It is also known as "Pink Shirt Day" and was originally started as a protest against a bullying incident at a Nova Scotia school. On this day, participants show support by wearing pink to symbolize a stand against bullying. Ahlul Bayt Islamic School students are standing up and speaking up against bullying. Students from JK to grade 10 participated in a wide range of activities on February 26 as part of a full-day Anti-Bullying event at the school. The event aimed to promote a culture of care, respect and inclusion for all in an effort to eliminate bullying. Students participated in activities organized by their teachers. Students learned to: 1. Communicate respectfully 3. Act responsibly and respectfully 5. Be accountable for their actions 2. Build positive relationships with peers. 4. Practice new, constructive behaviour 6. How to safely support victims of bullying

6 Kindergarten Registration In order to help us plan for next year, it would be greatly appreciated if the parents of our future JK and SK students could register their children this month. Do not hesitate to spread the word in the community. We are looking forward to receiving their applications, and most importantly, to welcoming our new students at ABIS in the near future! Re-Registration Registration for the Year Re-Registration forms were sent home in February. Each year, during the February-March timeframe, schools begin budget and staffing preparations for the upcoming school year. Re-Registration of existing students is part of this process. Before admitting new students, all existing students are given priority to re-register.
