The benefits in the Hereafter of having a connection with the Qur an - Yesterday we learnt about the worldly benefits of having a connection with the Quran - Today we will begin with learning about the benefits int he hereafter of having a connection with the Quran. - The first stage of the hereafter is the grave: when a person dies they enter the grave and in there angels come and test him. So when a person has a strong connection with the Qur an, in the grave he is at ease. Ease during the questioning in the grave ف ي ق ولا ن ل ه :م ا د ين ك ف ي ق ول :د ين ى الا س لا م ف ي ق ولا ن ل ه :م ا ه ذ ا ال رج ل ال ذ ى ب ع ث ف يك م ق ال ف ي ق ول :ه و ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ف ي ق ولا ن و م ا ي د ر يك ف ي ق ول ق ر أ ت ك ت اب الل ه ف ا م ن ت ب ه و ص دق ت [سنن ابی داود: 4755 ] Al-Barāʾ Ibn ʿĀzib said (that Allah s Messenger ﷺ said about the deceased who was just buried,). And indeed, he hears the beat of their sandals when they go back, and at that moment he is asked: O So-and-So! Who is your Lord, what is your religion, and who is your prophet? Two angels come to him, make him sit up. They ask him: Who is your Lord? He replies, My Lord is Allah. They ask him, What is your religion? He replies, My religion is Islam. They ask him, What is your opinion about the man who was sent among you? He replies, He.ﷺ is Allah's Messenger They ask, Who made you aware of this? He replies, I read Allah s Book, believed in it, and considered it true The angels ask him, how did you come to know of these matters? And he replies, I read the Book of Allah - So the person who believs in the Book, reads it, believes it to be true, then answering these question in the grave becomes easy for him

- Through the Quran a person is able to recognize his Lord, his deen, his Prophet, Muhammad (s) The Qur an is a protection against the punishment of the grave 9438 [ Abū Hurayrah said, When a man is placed in his grave and when he is approached (by punishment) from the side of his head, his recitation of the Quran repels it. And when he is approached from his sides, his charity repels it, and when he is approached from the side of his feet then his walking to the masjid repels it (i.e. the punishment). - This hadith also shows that in the grave when the punishment is brought to a person from the side of his head, his recitation of the Qur an repels it. - For the recitation of the Quran you use your eyes, ears, mind - and so the head which contains all these senses will be safe in the grave On the Day of Judgment the Qur an will come as a person ع ن اب ن بريدة ع ن أ ب ي ه ق ال ق ال ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ي ج يء ال ق ر آن ي و م ال ق ي ام ة ك ال رج ل ال شاح ب ف ي ق ول أ ن ا ال ذ ي أ س ه ر ت ل ي ل ك و أ ظ أم ت نهارك [سنن ابن ماجة: 3781 ] Ibn Buraydah reported that his father said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, The Qurʾān will come on the Day of Resurrection, like a pale man, and will say, I am the one that kept you awake at night and made you thirsty during the day. - Despite thirst he continues to recite - We need to ask ourselves - do we recite this much Qur an? That we get thirsty? - Those who memorize the Qur an recite a lot, but what about us? On the Day of Judgment the Qur an will come as an intercessor عن أ بی أ م ام ة ال ب اه لى ق ال س م ع ت ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ي ق ول اق ر ء وا ال ق ر آن ف ا ن ه ي ا ىت ي و م ال ق ي ام ة ش ف يع ا لا ص ح اب ه [صحیح مسلم: 1910 ] Abū Umāmah Al-Bāhilī said, I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ say, Recite the Qurʾān, for on the Day of Resurrection, it will come as an intercessor for its people.

It will shade a person ع ن أ يب أ م ام ة ق ال ق ال ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ت ع ل م وا ال ق ر آن ف ا ن ه ش اف ع ي و م ال ق ي ام ة ت ع ل م وا ال ب ق ر ة و آل ع م ر ان ت ع ل م وا ال زه ر او ي ن ف ا ن ه ام ي ا ت ي ان ي و م ال ق ي ام ة ك ا ن ه ام غ ام م ت ان أ و غ ي اي ت ان أ و ك ا ن ه ام ف ر ق ان م ن ط ري ص و ا ف ي ح ا جان ع ن ص اح ب ه ام ت ع ل م وا ال ب ق ر ة ف ا ن ت ع ل يم ه ا ب ر ك ة و ت ر ك ه ا ح سر ة و لا ي س ت ط يع ه ا ال ب ط ل ة [مسند احمد: ] Abū Umāmah Al-Bāhilī said, Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, Recite the Qur an for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions. Read the two bright ones: Sūrah al-baqarah and Āli ʿImrān because they will both come on the Day of Resurrection as if they were two clouds, or two shades or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Learn Surah al-baqarah, for learning it is a blessing and leaving it is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot counter it. - So we should learn Surah Baqarah with the correct recitation and understanding: so we can recite it properly - why? So that on the day of Judgment when there will be no shade, and the sun will be brought very near, this Surah will be a shade for you The Qur an will testify on the Day of Judgment ع ن أ ىب م ال ك الا ش ع ر ى ق ال ق ال ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ال ق ر آن ح جة ل ك أ و ع ل ي ك [صحیح مسلم: 556 ] Abū Mālik al-ashʿarī said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,...the Qurʾān is a proof on your behalf or against you. - A proof for who? The one who recites it and follows it - But the person who abandons the Qur an, the Qur an will be a proof, an argument against him, even the Prophet will testify against such a person complaining to Allah, that my Lord these people had abandoned the Quran For the reciter of the Qur an will be a crown of honour and Allah s approval ع ن أ يب ه ر ي ر ة ع ن ال نب ي ص لى الل ه ع ل ي ه و س ل م ق ال ي ج يء ال ق ر آن ي و م ال ق ي ام ة ف ي ق ول ي ا ر ب ح ل ه ف ي ل ب س ت اج ال ك ر ام ة ث م ي ق ول ي ا ر ب ز د ه ف ي ل ب س ح ل ة ال ك ر ام ة ث م ي ق ول ي ا ر ب ار ض ع ن ه ف ري ضى ع ن ه ف ي ق ال ل ه اق ر أ و ار ق و ت ز اد ب ك ل آي ة ح س ن ة [سنن الترمذی: 2915 ] Abū Hurayrah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, The one who memorized the Qurʾān shall come on the Day of Judgement and (the reward for reciting the Qurʾān) says: O Lord! Decorate

him. So he is donned with a crown of nobility. Then it says: O Lord! Give him more! So he is donned with a suit of nobility. Then it says: O Lord! Be pleased with him. So He is pleased with him and says: Recite and rise up, and be increased in reward with every Ayah. - In this world people only wish and dream of having such status: that they wear a crown. On that day, the bearer of Quran will be crowned. - Reward upon reward! The parents of the Bearer of the Qur an will be honoured with a crown of light وعن بريدة رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من قرأ القرآن وتعلم وعمل به ألبس والداه يوم القيامة تاجا من نور ضوؤه مثل ضوء الشمس ويكسى والداه حلتني لا يقوم لهام الدنيا فيقولان بم كسينا هذا فيقال با خذ ولدكام القرآن [صحيح الترغيب والترهيب: 1434 ] Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, The person who recites the Qur an, learns it and acts by it will be made to wear the crown of respect and dignity. His parents will be made to wear two silky robes that will be more precious than the world and what is in it. They will both ask, Why have we been give this? They will be told, Because of your teaching your child the Qur an. - So if you strive, and work really hard to teach your child the Qur an, you will be rewarded. - Why will the parents be honoured so much? Because they worked hard to teach their child the Qur an, to make him memorize it, they prayed for him, and worked hard to ensure he did not forget it. The status in Paradise of those who read the Qur an أىن لنا هذا فيقال:بتعليم ولدكام القرآن وإن صاحب القرآن يقال له يوم القيامة:اقرأ وارق في الدرجات ورتل كام كنت ترتل في الدنيا فا ن منزلك عند آخر آية معك [السلسلة الصحيحة: 2829 ] Abū Hurayrah reported that on the Day of Resurrection the Qur'an will appear in the guise of a lean human being and will say, "Do you recognize me?" He will reply, "No, I do not recognize

you." The Qur'an will say, "I am your companion, the Qur'an who kept you thirsty in the scorching heat and awake at night. Every trader pursued his articles of trade (and eventually they were separated from their worldly things), and today instead of being with any trader, I am here for you. Then he will be given kingship in his right hand and eternity in his left hand. He will be made to wear the crown of respect and dignity. His parents will be made to wear two silky robes, that will be more precious than the world and what is in it. They will both ask, "Why have we been give this?" They will be told because of your teaching your child the Qur an. Then the carrier of the Qur an will be asked on the Day of Judgment to start recitation of the Qur an and begin ascending the ranks of Paradise, and read slowly and beautifully as you did in the world, for your final grade will be the the recitation of the last verse with you. - So work hard in teaching Qur an to your children, and motivate them to learn the Qur an also. Share these ahadith with them - What do we learn? We should learn the Qur an ourselves and also teach it to our children. - How many verses are there in the Qur an? Many. Imagine if for each verse a rank is raised in paradise?! So memorize as much as possible - Ustadhah is sharing that in Makkah she met a lady who said that she set the time after Asr for memorizing the Qur an, and slowly she memorized the entire Qur an - So fix a certain time for doing such things - We complain that we dont have time, but the fact is that we dont plan for things that are important - When we dont plan we waste our own time: checking the phone, watching random videos, messages, social media, liking / disliking things. what have we earned? - Ask yourself at the end of the day that the time I spent on social media what did I really achieve? - And can I give half of that time or at least a quarter to the Qur an? The fact is that we easily can, but we dont make it a priority - The time after Fajr before sunrise is the time of blessing, so make use of your mornings.

Types of I rad from the Qur an - I raad is to leave or turn away Types of I rad from the Qur an Ibnul Qayyim said, Abandoning of the Qur an is of several types: قال ابن قيم الجوزية رحمه الله:هجر القرآن أنواع : 1. Not listening to the Qur an nor believing in it One: To abandon listening to it, believing in it or paying attention or listening to it و ق ال ال ذ ين ك ف ر وا لا ت س م ع وا ل ه ذ ا ال ق ر آن و ال غ و ا ف يه ل ع ل ك م ت غ ل ب ون (فصلت: 26 ) And those who disbelieve say, Do not listen to this Qurʾān and speak noisily during [the recitation of] it that perhaps you will overcome. - So what are we going to do? We are going to listen to the Quran - in the masjid, during salah, in a gathering, or at home while doing chores even - And this has become so easy - you can get an app in which you can listen to the Qur an, pause it and continue from there the next time you want to resume. - There are so many apps like this - you can read, listen, or listen and look at the text at the same time - And if you are not able to listen while looking at the text, then block a time for listening to the Qur an: while cooking, or while laying down, or while driving - set a time. 2. Not acting by the Qur an Second: To abandon implementing it and abiding by its Halal and Haram, even if he recites it and believes in it

و ال ذ ي ر أ ي ت ه ي ش د خ ر أ س ه ف ر ج ل ع ل م ه الل ه ال ق ر آن ف ن ام ع ن ه ب الل ي ل و ل م ي ع م ل ف يه ب ال نه ار ي ف ع ل ب ه إ لى ي و م ال ق ي ام ة...[صحیح البخاری: 1386 ] Samurah Ibn Jundab said, The Prophet (s) said, I saw last night that two men came to me, caught hold of my hands, and took me to the Sacred Land (Jerusalem). we went on till we came to a man lying flat on his back, and another man standing at his head carrying a stone or a piece of rock, crushing the head of the lying man with that stone. Whenever he struck him, the stone rolled away. The man went to pick it up and by the time he returned to him, the crushed head had returned to its normal state and the man came back and struck him again (and so on). I said, 'Who is this?' They told me to proceed on; They said, And the one whose head you saw being crushed is the one whom Allah had given the knowledge of Qurʾān but he used to sleep at night (i.e. he did not recite it then) and did not use to act upon it (i.e. upon its orders etc.) by day; and so this punishment will go on till the Day of Resurrection. - After having read the Qur an, a person still does not recite it - this is punishable. - In the night: reciting it in maghrib, Isha or Fajr, or tahajjud - - This does not mean tahajjud is fard, but at least some times a person should pray tahajjud and recite the Quran, at least in Ramadan عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : أت ي ت ل ي ل ة أ سر ي يب على ق و م ت ق ر ض ش ف اه ه م مب قاريض م ن نار ك ل ام ق ر ض ت و ف ت ف ق ل ت يا جبريل م ن هو لاء قال خ طباء أ مت ك الذين ي قولون ما لا ي ف ع لون و ي ق ر ؤون ك تاب الله ولا ي ع م ل ون ب ه [صحيح الجامع الصغري: 129 ] Anas ibn Mālik said, Allah s Messenger ﷺ said, The night on which I was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Isra') I came upon a people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. Every time they were cut up they were restored. So I said, O Jibril, who are these people? He said, The speakers of your nation, who would say what they would not do themselves, and would recite the Book of Allah and not act by it. - They lectured the people but never took it for themselves - So it is necessary that we recite the Qur an and act by it - follow it. 3. Not judging according to it

Third: To abandon seeking judgment and referring to it in regards to the principles of religion and its branches, and instead believing that they are not beneficial, and that they are simply words to be recited - For example, in matters of marriage, divorce, or other affairs regarding which Allah has revealed laws - So a person recites the words but thinks that the laws of the Qur an are irrelevant و إ ذ ا ق يل ل ه م ت ع ال و ا إ لى م ا أ ن ز ل الل ه و إ لى ال رس ول ر أ ي ت ال م ن اف ق ني ي ص دون ع ن ك ص د ود ا (النساء: 61 ) And when it is said to them, Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger, you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion. - They wish to follow their desires only - They want to do what they feel like and not follow the laws of the Qur an و إ ذ ا د ع وا إ لى الل ه و ر س ول ه ل ي ح ك م ب ي ن ه م إ ذ ا ف ر يق م ن ه م م ع ر ض ون (النور: 48) And when they are called to [the words of] Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, at once a party of them turns aside [in refusal]. - They dont accept the decisions / judgments of Allah and His Messenger 4. Not understanding it or reflecting upon it Fourth: To abandon reflecting upon it and understanding it, and knowing the intent of the One who has said it - They dont want to study it, because if they study they will have to follow it - Not even trying to understand the Qur an, or its message, is a sin أ ف لا ي ت د ب ر ون ال ق ر ءان أ م ع لى ق ل وب أ ق ف ال ه ا [محمد: 24 ] Then do they not reflect upon the Qurʾān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts? 5. Not seeking treatment through it - Only taking medication and not reciting the Qur an for healing

Fifth: To abandon seeking cure and treatment through it for any of the diseases of the heart and its ailments و ن ن زل م ن ال ق ر آن م ا ه و ش ف اء و ر ح م ة ل ل م و م ن ني و لا ي ز يد الظ ال م ني إ لا خ س ار ا [الا سراء: 82 ] And We send down of the Qurʾān that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. - Reciting the Qur an and doing ruqyah like this is a Prophetic way, the Companions of the Prophet (s) also did that. And reciting the Qur an and blowing it on oneself is a cure and worship. وكل هذا داخل في قوله:{و ق ال ال رس ول ي ا ر ب إ ن ق و م ي ات خ ذ وا ه ذ ا ال ق ر آن م ه ج ورا } (الفرقان: 30 ) [الفواي د] And all of this is included in: And the Messenger has said, O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qurʾān as [a thing] abandoned. - All people do not find cure through the Qur an. - No matter what kind of illness it is - physical, psychological, or any kind - the Qur an is shifaa (healing) - Not listening to the Qur an is a form of abandoning the Quran - The recitation of the Qur an has its own effect and listening to it also has its own effect - By understanding the Qur an, confusions are dispelled, you get clarity, solutions The suffering that results from abandoning the Qurʾān - Meaning, when a person abandons the Qur an he suffers A source of misguidance

And recite to them, [O Muḥammad], the news of him to whom we gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators. And if We had willed, we could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs. So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought. - So here, the example of a person is given - the one whom Allah gave the Quran to, but he left it, and chased after the world - so his life because completely opposite to what the Qur an guides to. Because he lives in contradiction to the Qur an. - He is like a dog, that is a symbol of greed - always greedy, whether you give him something or not, he sticks his tongue out. Such is this person, ever greedy for the things of this world Difficulties in life - When a person abandons the Qur an, this is how he suffers in the world: و م ن أ ع ر ض ع ن ذ ك ر ي ف ا ن ل ه م ع يش ة ض ن ك ا و ن ح شر ه ي و م ال ق ي ام ة أ ع م ى () ق ال ر ب ل م ح شر ت ن ي أ ع م ى و ق د ك ن ت ب ص ري ا () ق ال ك ذ ل ك أ ت ت ك آي ات ن ا ف ن س يت ه ا و ك ذ ل ك ال ي و م ت ن سى (طه: ) And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind. He will say, My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing? [Allah] will say, Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten. - In the verse Dhikr refers to Qur an - Dhikr: advice / instruction, because Allah gives us instruction in the Qur an - So the person who reads, understands the Quran and after that he ignores it, not reciting it or following it, then the harm of this is that a person suffers in this life - So he lived in this world as a blind person and will be raised on the Day of Judgment blind The removal of blessing from homes

Abū Hurayrah used to say, Because of the recitation of the Quran a house becomes vast for its inhabitants, the angels are present in it, the devils leave it and its goodness increases. When Qur an is not recited in a house then it becomes constricted for its inhabitants, the angels leave it, the devils are present in it and its goodness is decreased. - The house in which Qur an is not recited then there is no barakah there The influence of shaytan and bad company م ن ي ع ش ع ن ذ ك ر ال رح م ن ن ق يض ل ه ش ي ط ان ا ف ه و ل ه ق ر ين () و إ ن ه م ل ي ص دون ه م ع ن ال سب يل و ي ح س ب ون أ ن ه م م ه ت د ون () ح تى إ ذ ا ج اء ن ا ق ال ي ا ل ي ت ب ي ن ي و ب ي ن ك ب ع د ال م شر ق ني ف ب ي س ال ق ر ين () و ل ن ي ن ف ع ك م ال ي و م إ ذ ظ ل م ت م أ ن ك م في ال ع ذ اب م ش تر ك ون (الزخرف: ( And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful (this is the Qur an) - We appoint for him a devil (shaytan goes after him), and he is to him a companion (always with him). And indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided (they dont even realize their mistakes) until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], Oh, I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west (as the east and west are so far apart I wish you were as far from me, and that you had not been my companion) - how wretched a companion. And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment. - So both: this person and his friend who stops him from the QUran, whether human or jinn, will be together in this punishment - So any person who stops you from the Quran - then be careful, stay away Severe punishment after death ي س م ع آي ات الل ه ت ت لى ع ل ي ه ث م ي صر م س ت ك بر ا ك ا ن ل م ي س م ع ه ا ف ب شر ه ب ع ذ اب أ ل يم (الجاثية: 8 ) who hears the verses of Allah recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

Samurah Ibn Jundab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said in his narration of a dream that he saw, "He whose head was being crushed with a stone was one who learnt the Qurʾān but never acted on it, and slept, ignoring the compulsory prayers." - He did not even pray Isha - We hear such things: that someone memorized the Quran and now they dont even pray Salah - Share these ahadith with your children - so those who are praying Salah keep praying, and those who are neglecting their prayers begin taking them seriously - because one day we have to return to our Lord Humiliation on the Day of Judgment و ق ال ال رس ول ي ا ر ب إ ن ق و م ي ات خ ذ وا ه ذ ا ال ق ر آن م ه ج ور ا [الفرقان: 30 ] And the Messenger has said, O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qurʾān as [a thing] abandoned. - They had no time for the Quran - We need to check ourselves, all of us - that how much time do I give to this Quran? Out of the entire day, how many minutes? or hours? - How much time do I spend in the recitation of the Quran? In salah, or outside of salah, reciting with reflection, learning, or teaching it? - What have we learned from this section? - Is it okay to listen to the recitation of the Qur an during labour and birth? When the Qur an is recited there is blessing, and shaytan stays away, so as long as the area is clean, and there isnt talking / noise, there is no harm - The sister is sharing that her brother had an accident and had very serious injuries, he was in a coma - he was unable to hear or speak and her mother would recite the Quran to him every day. MashaAllah he is fine today, free from any disability. - The Qur an is truly a healing and mercy - A short one minute break to stretch, but please stay in your spots

The Rights of the Qur an The five rights of the Qur an The Qur an has five rights upon us, and they are: للقرآن علينا خمسة حقوق وهي: حق التلاوة The right of recitation حق الح فظmemorization The right of حق التدبر The right of reflection حق العمل The right of action حق التبليغ others) The right of conveying (to The right of Recitation حق التالوة 1. A sign of the heirs of this Book - Allah has delivered this Book to us in a completely preserved form, so it is our duty now that we recite it ال ذ ين آت ي ن اه م ال ك ت اب ي ت ل ون ه ح ق ت لا و ت ه أ ول ي ك ي و م ن ون ب ه و م ن ي ك ف ر ب ه ف ا ول ي ك ه م ال خ اسر ون (البقرة: 121 ) Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers. - Those who recite the Qur an, and recite it in a way that the Qur an should be recited - then they are truly believers in the QUran - Believing in the Qur an means reciting it properly Recitation is the beautification of the Qur an قال ش ق يق ب ن س ل م ة رحمه الله:م ر على عبد الله مبصحف مزين بالذهب فقال:إ ن أحسن ما ز ي ن به المصحف تلاوته بالحق (حلية الا ولياء: 4/105 ) Shaqīq Ibn Salamah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, Someone passed by Abdullah with a Mushaf adorned with gold, so he said, Indeed the most beautiful way in which the Mushaf is adorned is by its rightful recitation.

- This is the true beautification of the Quran: when it is recited properly - The right of Memorization حق الحفظ 2. The Qur an is easy for memorization و ل ق د ي سر ن ا ال ق ر آن ل ل ذك ر ف ه ل م ن م دك ر [القمر: 17 ] And We have certainly made the Qurʾān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? {و ل ق د ي سر ن ا ال ق ر آن ل ل ذك ر ف ه ل م ن م دك ر } أي: ولقد يسرنا وسهلنا هذا القرآن الكريم ألفاظه للحفظ والا داء ومعانيه للفهم والعلم لا نه أحسن الكلام لفظا وأصدقه معنى وأبينه تفسريا فكل من أقبل عليه يسر الله عليه مطلوبه غاية التيسري وسهله عليه [تفسیر السعدی] And We have certainly made the Qurʾān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? Meaning, We have facilitated and made easy the learning the Qur an - it s words for memorization and pronunciation, its meanings for understanding and knowledge, because it is the best speech in terms of words, and most truthful in meaning, and most clear in explanation, so whoever pays attention to the Qur an then Allah facilitates his goal for him, and makes it easy for him. - Meaning the person who memorizes the Qur an then Allah will make it easy for him, it will not be an impossible task The memorization should be constantly guarded - Meaning, a person should ensure that they do not forget it after memorizing it ع ن اب ن ع م ر ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه ام أ ن ر س ول الل ه ص لى الل ه ع ل ي ه و س ل م ق ال إ من ا م ث ل ص اح ب ال ق ر آن ك م ث ل ص اح ب الا ب ل ال م ع قل ة إ ن ع اه د ع ل ي ه ا أ م س ك ه ا و إ ن أ ط ل ق ه ا ذ ه ب ت [صحیح البخاری: 5031 ] Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, The example of the person who knows the Qurʾān by heart is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will control them, but if he releases them, they will run away.

ع ن ع ب د الل ه ق ال ق ال ال نب ي ﷺ ب ي س م ا لا ح د ه م أ ن ي ق ول ن س يت آي ة ك ي ت و ك ي ت ب ل ن سي و اس ت ذ ك ر وا ال ق ر آن ف ا ن ه أ ش د ت ف صي ا م ن ص د ور ال رج ال م ن ال نع م [صحیح البخاری: 5032] ʿAbdullāh (ibn Masʿūd) said, The Prophet ﷺ said, It is a bad thing that some of you say, I have forgotten such-and-such verse of the Qurʾān, for indeed, he has been caused (by Allah) to forget it. So you must keep on reciting the Qurʾān, because it escapes from the hearts of men faster than camel do. - So a person should not even say that I have forgotten the Quran - because now you have accepted it as okay. - So dont accept that you have forgotten - keep trying - When you dont recite a portion of the Quran tha tyou have memorized for a long time, then you will forget it. So do not be negligent in this regard. The importance & virtue of memorizing the Qur an ﷺ The Sunnah of the Prophet Memorizing the Qur an is an ongoing tradition, the Prophet (s) memorized the Noble Qur an, in fact he used to review it with Jibril every year. Memorizing the Qur an is a means of being saved from the Fire [السلسلة الصحيحة: 3562 ] ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir reported that Allah s Messenger ﷺ said, If the Quran was put in a skin and thrown in the fire, it would not burn.

And the apparent meaning of this is what the scholars of Hadith have said, among whom is al- Bayhaqi who said in Shu ab on the authority of Abu Abdillah: Meaning, the one who bears the Qur an and recites it, then the Fire will not touch him. - What is meant by skin in this hadith is our skin - so if we keep the Quran in our heart, and continue to recite it, then inshaallah the fire of hell will not touch - Share these ahadith with your children The person who has memorized the Qur an is deserving of honour and respect ع ن أ يب م وسى الا ش ع ر ي ق ال ق ال ر س ول الل ه صلى الله عليه وسلم إ ن م ن إ ج لا ل الل ه إ ك ر ام ذ ى ال شي ب ة ال م س ل م و ح ام ل ال ق ر آن غ ري ال غ الى ف يه و ال ج افى ع ن ه و إ ك ر ام ذ ى ال سل ط ان ال م ق س ط [سنن أيب داود: 4845] Abū Mūsā al-ashʿarī said, The Prophet ﷺ said, Glorifying Allah involves showing honour to a grey-haired Muslim (an old muslim) and to one who bears the Qurʾān, but does not act extravagantly regarding it, or turns away from it, and showing honour to a just ruler. - So our deen is of respect: where we are taught to respect the elders, those who have the Quran and those people in authority who are just The person who has memorized the Qur an is of high rank and position ع ن ع اي ش ة ق ال ت ق ال ر س ول الل ه صلى الله عليه وسلم ال ام ه ر ب ال ق ر آن م ع ال سف ر ة ال ك ر ام ال بر ر ة و ال ذ ى ي ق ر أ ال ق ر آن و ي ت ت ع ت ع ف يه و ه و ع ل ي ه ش ا ق ل ه أ ج ر ان [صحیح مسلم: 1898] ʿĀʾishah said, Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, One who is proficient in the Qurʾān is associated with the noble, upright, recording angels; and he who falters in it, and finds it difficult for him, will have two rewards. - So no one is deprived - Any person who tries to have a connection with the Qur an and puts in effort, then his reward will be in proportion to his effort The person who has memorized the Qur an is deserving of leading the people in prayer

Abū Masʿūd said, Allah s Messenger ﷺ said, The one who recites most of the Book of Allah is to lead the people (in prayers). If they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable in the Sunnah among them. If they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest of them to emigrate. If they are equal in their emigration then the eldest among them - The older a person is in age, the more deserving of respect they are The memorization of the Qur an is a means of high ranks in this world also ع ن ج اب ر ب ن ع ب د الل ه ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه ام أ ن ر س ول الل ه ص لى الل ه ع ل ي ه و س ل م ك ان ي ج م ع ب ني ال رج ل ني م ن ق ت لى أ ح د في ث و ب و اح د ث م ي ق ول أ ي ه م أ ك رث أ خ ذ ا ل ل ق ر آن ف ا ذ ا أ ش ري ل ه إ لى أ ح د ه ام ق دم ه في الل ح د [صحیح البخاری: [1347 ﷺ Jābir Ibn Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that Allah's Messenger shrouded every two martyrs of Uhud in one piece of cloth and then he would ask, Which of them knew more Qurʾān? When my father returned, he said, By Allah, I have come to you from the true Prophet ﷺ for sure! The Prophet ﷺ had taught them, 'Offer such-and-such prayer at such-and-such time, and when the time for the prayer becomes due, then one of you should pronounce the Adhan (for the prayer), and let the one among you who knows Qurʾān most should lead the prayer. So they looked for such a person and found none who knew more Qurʾān than I, because of the Qurʾān which I used to learn from the passing travellers. They therefore made me their imām (to lead the prayer) and at that time I was a boy of six or seven years - He memorized the Qur an just by listening to the travellers - Think about this: IF the travellers recited the Qur an only then would he be able to learn it from them The right of Reflection حق التدبر 3. The purpose of the revelation of the Qur an ك ت اب أ ن ز ل ن اه إ ل ي ك م ب ار ك ل ي دب ر وا آي ات ه و ل ي ت ذ ك ر أ ول و الا ل ب اب [ص: 29 ] [This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. - So this shows us that the Qur an was revealed for this purpose: it should be understood, we should spend time with it - IT takes little time to recite it, but longer to learn it, and even longer to reflect on it Hasan al-basri said, The Qur an was revealed so it may be reflected upon and acted by, but the people have taken its recitation as amal.

- Meaning, they consider its mere recitation as following the Qur an - They dont spend time in learning its meaning and reflecting upon it The purpose of the revelation of the Qur an is not only recitation قال ابن القيم: و أ ما ال تا مل في ال ق ر آن ف ه و ت ح د يق ن اظ ر ال ق ل ب إ لى م ع ان يه و ج م ع ال ف ك ر ع لى ت د ب ر ه و ت ع قل ه و ه و ال م ق ص ود ب ا ن ز ال ه لا م ج رد ت لا و ت ه ب لا ف ه م و لا ت د ب ر [مدارج السالکین] Ibnul Qayyim said, As for reflecting upon the Qur an is concerned, then it is to fix the eyes of the heart upon its meanings, and focus all of ones thoughts to understand and reflect upon it, and this is the very objective of the revelation of the Qur an. Mere recitation without understanding and reflection is not the objective - So we should not consider its recitation to be enough - Because there is reward for reciting every letter we think only to recite and gather rewards this way - but dont stop here, move to the next step also - Recite it, and understand it and reflect upon it Allah the Exalted gives the command to reflect upon the Qur an أ ف ل م ي دب ر وا ال ق و ل أ م ج اء ه م م ا ل م ي ا ت آب اء ه م الا ول ني (المو منون: 68 ) Then have they not reflected over the Qurʾān, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers? - Meaning, if they reflected upon the Qur an they would understand the message of the Qur an and they would understand that the Qur an guides in every era The condemnation of not reflecting upon the Qur an أ ف لا ي ت د ب ر ون ال ق ر آن أ م ع لى ق ل وب أ ق ف ال ه ا (محمد: 24 ) Then do they not reflect upon the Qurʾān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts? - So tadabbur is with the heart أ ف لا ي ت د ب ر ون ال ق ر آن و ل و ك ان م ن ع ن د غ ري الل ه ل و ج د وا ف يه اخ ت لا ف ا ك ث ري ا (النساء :82) Then do they not reflect upon the Qurʾān? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.

- The Quran was revealed in 23 years - and if a book is written in 23 years the contents would be contradictory, because over this long period, a persons thoughts change do you think the same way as you did 23 years ago? - So the fact is that the Qur an is free of contradiction because it is from Allah Guidance from the Qur an is attained through reflection ] مجموع الفتاوى - ابن تيمية [ IbnTaymiyya said, Whoever reflects on the Qur an seeking guidance from it, the way of truth will become clear to him. Giving preference to recite with understanding and pauses - Meaning recite it with pauses (in order to reflect) [الموطا :472] Yaḥyā Ibn Saʿīd said, Once Muḥammad Ibn Yaḥyā Ibn Ḥabbān and I were sitting down, and Muḥammad called a man over to him and said to him, Tell me what you have heard from your father. The man replied that his father had told him that he went to Zayd Ibn Thābit and asked him, What do you think of reciting the whole Qurʾān in seven days? Zayd said, That's good, but I prefer to recite it in two weeks, or ten days. Ask me why that is. He said, I ask you then. Zayd said, So that I can reflect on it and pause in it. - Not only reciting it, but stopping to reflect on the message / content of the verses - So as you are reciting yourself, or teaching others, then stop and reflect on the message of the verses also - Keep a copy of the Qur an that has the translation in it, so that it helps you with reflection Understand every verse - When people study the entire Qur an, word by word, people ask them that why study every verse? Because every verse is deserving of it

قال ابن عجیبة : التف هم وهو أن يستوضح كل آية ما يليق بها إذ القرآن مشتمل على ذكر صفات الله تعالى وذكر أفعاله وذكر أحوال أنبياي ه عليهم السلام وذكر أحوال المكذ بني وكيف أ هلكوا وذكر أوامره وزواجره وذكر الجنة والنار [البحر المدید] Ibn Ajaybah said, To understand the Qur an is that the reciter of the Qur an seeks to understand every verse that is related to it. The Qur an contains the mention of the Attributes of Allah the Exalted, His Actions, and the mention of the circumstances of His Prophets - upon them be peace - and the mention of the circumstances of the deniers, and how they were destroyed, and the mention of His commands and His prohibitions, and the mention of Paradise and Hell. - There are many themes and topics in the Quran and it is important that we study all of them. - It is not enough to study only one Surah. - The Qur an is for our guidance so we should study it all, one surah after the other Learning the commands in the Qur an Omar b. al-khattab may Allah be pleased with them both said, We spent a long life and each of of us was given Iman before the Quran. A Surah would be revealed upon Muhammad (s) and he would teach us its Halal, its haram, its commands and prohibitions, and also those matters at which one should stop. Then I saw people who were given the Quran before Iman, so one of them recites the Quran from Surah Fatihah till the end, but he is unable to learn what the Quran commands him of, or prohibits him from, and where he should stop, and he spreads it like cheap dates are spread out (i.e., does not give it any importance) - So he keeps reading without paying attention to the commands in the verses - Would you like to say anything? What did you understand? - Spreading cheap dates - If you get a pack of dates and some dates are good and others are of poor quality, you move those of poor quality to a side why? because it is not of any value

- So is there any verse that is not important? Then why do we go on reciting without stopping to think and reflect? To take lessons from it? - So it is necessary that we stop at the verses and reflect - if not in every recitation, at least once or twice a week - Our deen is not about blind following, we are encouraged to learn - Know that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah - So we cant just say Allah is One, we should have that knowledge, we should realize this fact - How? by learning the Qur an, and also by looking at the creation of Allah - The Qur an teaches you to reflect, you develop the habit The righteous predecessors preferred to understand the Qur an and then recite it و ق ال اب ن ع و ن ث لا ث أ ح به ن ل ن ف سي و لا خ و اين ه ذ ه ال س نة أ ن ي ت ع ل م وه ا و ي س ا ل وا ع ن ه ا و ال ق ر آن أ ن ي ت ف هم وه و ي س ا ل وا ع ن ه و ي د ع وا ال ناس إ لا م ن خ ري [صحیح البخاری باب الا ق ت د اء ب س ن ن ر س ول الل ه ﷺ] Ibn ʿAwn said, I love three things for myself and for my brothers. They are: 1. This Sunnah: That they learn it, and ask about it. (Meaning they must study the hadith) 2. The Qur an: That they understand it and ask about it (MEaning they should study it, and whatever it is that they do not understand, they should enquire about it) 3. That they mention the people only in good terms (Do not speak ill of others) - Two things will be a means of many people entering paradise: - Fear of Allah and good akhlaq (manners) - Fear of Allah: Taqwa: that Allah is watching me, so I cannot do what displeases Him - Good manners: The one who observes good manners with people goes higher in terms of reward than the one who fasts and prays in the night. High levels in paradise - So what is good akhlaq? There are two things in it: - Doing certain things - Leaving certain things - Good akhlaq is not about smiling only, or helping others - Good akhlaq includes leaving certain things: talking ill of others is not good akhlaq

- So if we say one sentence of backbiting, then this is not good akhlaq - These sins erase, delete good deeds - But we dont think much of such things: we speak wihtout proof, we write, share, on social media - read, write, make fun of others, imitating them to laugh all of these are ill manners - Thinking ill of others is also wrong - for example, if you call someone and they dont pick up, what do you think? They deliberately did not pick up! - Mistrust, thinking ill of others. A sister was complaining that even when she goes to the bathroom she has to take her phone because if her husband calls and she does not pick up immediately shes in trouble - We should always think good of others: perhaps the phone is on low battery, perhaps they dont have wifi, perhaps they are busy Give them the benefit of the doubt - There is akhlaq tht we show people, and there is akhlaq that our Lord sees - so our thoughts are known to Allah - When we think ill of others, are upset, vengeful, spiteful, then we are only harming ourselves - The high levels of paradise are for those who think positively, who are grateful - Encourage others, dont discourage - Thank people all these are gestures of good akhlaq - Control your tongue, your facial expressions, listen to others allow them to speak - The bearer of Qur an exhibits good character The manner in which the righteous predecessors recited the Qur an [الزهد لابن المبارك] Ubaydullah b. Abdir Rahman b. Mauhib said: I heard Muhammad b. Ka b al-quradhiy saying, Were I to recite in my night until the morning only Surah Idha zulzilat and al-qariah without adding any other recitation, and only repeating them and reflecting on them - this would be more beloved to me than reciting the Quran quickly, or spreading it like cheap dates.

- So take a small passage of the Quran and recite it again and again, listen to it, read tafseer, discuss with someone, read it to someone else - We recite the Qur an but we fail to do Tadaarus, which is to study together, discuss with others. And this is very important. The manner in which the righteous predecessors taught the Qur an Ayyash said, I recited the Quran before Aasim b. Abi Najood. He would tell me to recite only one verse to him and not more, and he would say that this will make the Quran more muhkam / firm in my chest. I was afraid that the Shaykh might die before my completion of the Qur an, so I kept requesting him to recite more verses to him until he allowed me to learn and recite five verses to him every day. - And we want to read one quarter every day so we can get an Ijazah quickly so we can show people we have an Ijazah - The main thing is that we recite it properly, correctly - In different stages of life our responsibilities are different - so when you have fewer responsibilities make more time for the Quran - especially when your children are older and independent dont spend your time waiting for your kids to call you or text you spend you time in reflecting upon the Quran - Ask yourself, how can I make better use of my time? Is what Im doing okay? Or can I make better use of it? - When you are alone its easy to slip - but when you have people around you that - remind you, encourage you, then its easy to stay on the right path The right of acting by it حق العمل 4. The command to follow the Qur an

و ه ذ ا ك ت اب أ ن ز ل ن اه م ب ار ك ف ات ب ع وه و ات ق وا ل ع ل ك م ت ر ح م ون [الا نعام: 155 ] And this [Qurʾān] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy. - Meaning if you follow it you will find Allah s mercy - So dont fear following the Qur an - We have this fear that if we follow the Qur an we will miss out on the things and enjoyment of this world - So remove this fear How the Prophet (s) followed the Qur an [صحیح مسلم: 1773] Saʿd Ibn Hishām Ibn ʿĀmir said I asked ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), O Mother of the Faithful, tell me about the character of Allah's Messenger. ﷺ She said, Don't you read the Qurʾān? I said, Yes. She said, Indeed, the character of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was the Qurʾān. - How can a person character improve? By learning the Quran - Because the Quran will tell us which manners to adopt, and which manners to leave How the Companions followed the Qur an عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال كان الرجل من ا إذا تعلم عشر آيات مل يجاوزهن حتى يعرف معانيهن والعمل بهن [مفهوم التدبرفي ضوء القرآن والسنة وأقوال السلف وأحوالهم [ Ibn Mas ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, When a man among us would learn ten verses, he would not go beyond them until he knew their meanings and acted by them. - They would read a little at a time, understand and follow it and then move on

وقال ابن عمر كان الفاضل من أصحاب النبي في صدر هذه الا مة لا يحفظ من القرآن إلا السورة أو نحوها ورزقوا العمل بالقرآن وإن آخر هذه الا مة يرزقون القرآن منهم الصبي والا عمى ولا يرزقون العمل به [مفهوم التدبرفي ضوء القرآن والسنة وأقوال السلف وأحوالهم [ ʿAbdullāh Ibn ʿUmar said, In the former part of this Ummah were the Prophet (s) and his Companions, who would not memorize a Surah from the Qur an or something like it, except that they were provided with action. And indeed, in the latter part of this Ummah will be people among whom even the little child and the blind person will memorize the Qur an but will not be provided with action. - The reason? Love of dunya, fear of dunya [مفهوم التدبرفي ضوء القرآن والسنة وأقوال السلف وأحوالهم [ Abu Abd ar-rahman as-sulami said, and he was one of the students of the Companions, The people we learnt the Qur an from informed us that when the learnt ten verses, they would not go beyond them to another ten until they learned whatever was in them related to action. He said, So we learned knowledge and action together. - Meaning simultaneously they learned the Qur an and acted by it The Companions would stop themselves before the Qur an - Meaning, they left their own opinions, ways أ ن اب ن ع باس ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه ام ق ال ي ا اب ن ال خ ط اب ف و الل ه م ا ت ع ط ين ا ال ج ز ل و لا ت ح ك م ب ي ن ن ا ب ال ع د ل ف غ ض ب ع م ر ح تى ه م أ ن ي وق ع ب ه ف ق ال ل ه ال ح ر ي ا أ م ري ال م و م ن ني إ ن الل ه ت ع الى ق ال ل ن ب يه ﷺ } خ ذ ال ع ف و و أ م ر ب ال ع ر ف و أ ع ر ض ع ن ال ج اه ل ني { و إ ن ه ذ ا م ن ال ج اه ل ني و الل ه م ا ج او ز ه ا ع م ر ح ني ت لا ه ا ع ل ي ه و ك ان و قاف ا ع ن د ك ت اب الل ه [صحیح البخاری: 4642 ] Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) said,. ʿUyaynah Ibn Hiṣn Ibn Ḥudhayfah said, "Beware! Thereupon ʿUmar became so furious that he intended to harm him, but Al-Ḥurr said, "O Chief of the Believers!
