They did not wrong Us; rather it was themselves they wronged." (2:57) و ق ال م ج اه د ال م ن ص م غ ة و ال سل و ى الط ري Mujahid said that manna is a gum and quail is a bird. - Samghah: something sweet and chewy Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The Kam'a (i.e. a kind of edible fungus) is of the Manna (in that it is obtained without effort) and its water is a (medicine) cure for eye trouble. - Kam ah: a kind of a mushroom - The Bani Israel were given these things to eat in the Teeh (wildnerness) - IbnAbbas said mann would stick to the trees and the bani israel could eat as much as they wanted - it has also been said that it was something of citrus, or that it fell from the sky like snow, it was whiteer than milk and sweeter than honey - mann was something sweet, and salwa was something savoury: bird meat. So they had sweet and savoury - This was a huge blessing from Allah: in the desert arranging for the food of thousands of people would be impossible. ق ال ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ال ك أم ة م ن ال م ن ال ذ ى أ ن ز ل الل ه ت ب ار ك و ت ع الى ع لى ب ن ى إ سر اي يل و م اؤ ه ا ش ف اء ل ل ع ني.[صحیح مسلم: 5466 ] Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Truffles are a kind of م ن which Allah the Glorious and Exalted, sent down upon the people of Israil, and its water is a medicine for the eyes. ب اب } و إ ذ ق ل ن ا اد خ ل وا ه ذ ه ال ق ر ي ة ف ك ل وا م ن ه ا ح ي ث ش ي ت م ر غ د ا و اد خ ل وا ال ب اب س جد ا و ق ول وا ح ط ة ن غ ف ر ل ك م خ ط اي اك م و س ن ز يد ال م ح س ن ني { Chapter: The words of the Almighty, "Remember when We said, 'Go into this town and eat from it wheresoever you like, freely. (2:58) - The chapter headings in this Book are with verses - When they got bored of the mann and salwa they asked for a variety of foods, so this is mentioned in the verse } ر غ د ا { و اس ع ك ث ري "Raghadan" means "ample and abundant." - Meaning go to the city and eat as much as you wish The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It was said to the children of Israel, 'Enter the gate (of the town), prostrate (in humility) and say: Hittatun (i.e. repentance) i.e. O Allah! Forgive our sins.' But they entered by dragging themselves on their buttocks, so they did something different (from what they had been ordered to do) and said, 'Hittatun,' but added, "A grain in a hair.
2 - Hammam b. Munabbih was the student of AbuHurayrah, and one of his books was found by Dr. Hamidullah in a library, it is called the Saheefah of Imam Ibn Munabbih: when the ahadith recorded in that saheefah was tallied with the ahadith in bukhair and other books they were exactly the same. So this was a written historical manuscript, and the ahadith were orally transmitted and recorded in other books - and they were identical: so this is also proof of the authenticity of hadith - This is what happens when there is great moral decline in a people: their manners and akhlaq become hostile, or inappropriate. For example, when you tell a child to do something and he does not listen and instead throws things or makes faces, you can give him the benelit of the doubt that he is hungry or upset or something. But the bani israel were misbehahing here against Allah the exalted: they began crawling on their bottom, instead of putting the head down, they put their bottom down: instead of saying the word that Allah taught them, they twisted the word and said something else. Instead of becoming humble, they became arrogant. When the Prophet (s) conquered Makkah he was commanded to seek forgiveness from Allah and glorify Him: that if there was any deliciency or mistake, seek forgiveness for that. The Prophet (s) increased in his istighfar. But what did these people do? Instead of Istighfar, they made fun of it. There is no sense in the word hintah: if you hear someone saying this: grain in hair, grain in hair, grain in hair what dpes it mean? - What this teaches us is that you cannot teach, guide everyone you could spend years, your entire life teaching your own child, or your own student: but at the end of the day you cannot guide the one you love: Allah told His Messenger that you cannot guide the person you love. You love your children, and you want them to learn, you employ different ways to teach them: with love, scolding, yelling, punishing, whatever but they do not do what you expect of them: they waste their time, etc. Bani Israel were blessed with gift after gift, means of guidance, but they did not learn. In your class there could be people you work so hard on, your own childnren: you spend money on so that they study but they dont youre giving a lecture and there are people who neither listen, nor pay attention, they are distracted so you become upset and angry you begin to focu son them - Ustadhah is saying: she has learnt in her life: I am not going to get upset by focusing on those who turn away, why should I be angry and waste my time instead I should focus on those who are eager and willing to learn and work: The same advise she gives to all teachers and managers - Anyone you do Ihsan on: by teaching them, etc. but then they dont listen but if you focus on them, everyone will be upset, afraid. for example: if one child is disobedient, and you become upset, then your husband will be upset, the other children will also be upset so give your advice, and then focus on the positive in life - Through these things Allah also teaches us: that anyone that has learnt from us, has indeed been guided by Allah not by us. If 2 of your children or students get rightly guided you begin taking credit for it. If it was really in your hand, you
3 would be able to guide everyone. And that is not the case. So guidance truly comes from Allah. - Look at their arrogance and mockery so be grateful that such people are not before you. Imagine if you faced such people who mocked at what you taught them in this manner ب اب } م ن ك ان ع د و ا ل ج بر يل { Chapter: His words, "Anyone who is the enemy of Jibril." (2:97) - Bani Israel even considered Jibril their enemy: this is so foolish. - So when Prophethood was given to Banu Ismael, the bani israel became angry, why did Jibril go there? they considered themselves to be worthy of leadership only: but leadership has some qualities which they did not possess و ق ال ع ك ر م ة ج بر و م يك و سر اف ع ب د إ يل الل ه 'Ikrima said, "The meaning of 'Jibr', 'Mik', and 'Saraf' is 'slave' [i.e. in Jibril, Mika'il and Israfil] and 'il' means Allah'." - So Jibreel means: Allah s slave. Mikael and Israfeel also. Note that Izrael has not been mentioned here Narrated Anas: `Abdullah bin Salam heard the news of the arrival of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (at Medina) while he was on a farm collecting its fruits. - Abdullah b. Salam was a jewish scholar So he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I will ask you about three things which nobody knows unless he be a prophet. Firstly, what is the first portent of the Hour? What is the first meal of the people of Paradise? And what makes a baby look like its father or mother? - Some diflicult questions: you get scared of exams, when you are taught everything in detail and then informed of the test from before. These were unexpected questions ق ال أ خ بر ين ب ه ن ج بر يل آن ف ا ق ال ج بر يل ق ال ن ع م ق ال ذ اك ع د و ال ي ه ود م ن ال م لا ي ك ة (ﷺ) said, "Just now Gabriel has informed me about that." `Abdullah said, "Gabriel?" The Prophet (ﷺ) The Prophet said, "Yes." `Abdullah said, "He, among the angels is the enemy of the Jews." ف ق ر أ ه ذ ه الا ي ة } م ن ك ان ع د و ا ل ج بر يل ف ا ن ه ن زل ه ع لى ق ل ب ك ب ا ذ ن الل ه { On that the Prophet (ﷺ) recited this Verse:-- "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel (let him die in his fury!) for he has brought it (i.e. Qur'an) down to your heart by Allah's permission." - Jibril is only following orders, he brings revelation at the command of Allah أ ما أ ول أ شر اط ال ساع ة ف ن ار ت ح شر ال ناس م ن ال م شر ق إ لى ال م غ ر ب و أ ما أ ول ط ع ام ي ا ك ل ه أ ه ل ال ج نة ف ز ي اد ة ك ب د ح وت و إ ذ ا س ب ق م اء ال رج ل م اء ال م ر أ ة ن ز ع ال و ل د و إ ذ ا س ب ق م اء ال م ر أ ة ن ز ع ت Then he added, "As for the first portent of the Hour, it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to West. And as for the first meal of the people of Paradise, it will be the caudite (i.e. extra) lobe of the fish liver. And if a man's discharge proceeded that of the woman, then the child resembles the father, and if the woman's discharge proceeded that of the man, then the child resembles the mother." - There are two types of signs of the day of Judgment: major and minor: minor are many and will happen long before the hour. Major are those that will occur very
4 close to the Hour. So when they will all be fullilled, the Linal one will be the Lire that will gather the people On hearing that, `Abdullah said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah, O, Allah's Messenger ;(ﷺ) the Jews are liars, and if they should come to know that I have embraced Islam, they would accuse me of being a liar. ف ج اء ت ال ي ه ود ف ق ال ال نب ي ص لى الل ه ع ل ي ه و س ل م أ ي ر ج ل ع ب د الل ه ف يك م ق ال وا خ ري ن ا و اب ن خ ري ن ا و س يد ن ا و اب ن س يد ن ا ق ال أ ر أ ي ت م إ ن أ س ل م ع ب د الل ه ب ن س لا م ف ق ال وا أ ع اذ ه الل ه م ن ذ ل ك In the meantime some Jews came (to the Prophet) and he asked them, "What is `Abdullah's status amongst you?" They replied, "He is the best amongst us, and he is our chief and the son of our chief." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What would you think if `Abdullah bin Salam embraced Islam?" They replied, "May Allah protect him from this! Then `Abdullah came out and said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Jews then said, "Abdullah is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us," and disparaged him. On that `Abdullah said, "O Allah's Messenger!(ﷺ) This is what I was afraid of! - Right there, they changed what they said about him - He was very familiar with the akhlaq of his people - What did you understand? Anything youd like to share? - WE dont have the power to change people. And sometimes, in trying to Lix one person you will waste everyone elses time. We forget to encourage and praise the student who has done their work, and instead waste our time and energy on those who dont do it. So give time and attention to those who are interested. - Jibril informed the Prophet (s) of all these answers ب اب ق و ل ه } م ا ن ن س خ م ن آي ة أ و ن ن س ه ا ن ا ت ب خ ري م ن ه ا { Chapter: His words, "Whenever We abrogate an ayat or cause it to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or equal to it." (2:106) حديث: ح دث ن ا ع م ر و ب ن ع لي ح دث ن ا ي ح ي ى ح دث ن ا س ف ي ان ع ن ح ب يب ع ن س ع يد ب ن ج ب ري ع ن اب ن ع باس ق ال ق ال ع م ر ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه أ ق ر ؤ ن ا أ يب و أ ق ض ان ا ع لي و إ ن ا ل ن د ع م ن ق و ل أ يب و ذ اك أ ن أ ب ي ا ي ق ول لا أ د ع ش ي ي ا س م ع ت ه م ن ر س ول الل ه ص لى الل ه ع ل ي ه و س ل م و ق د ق ال الل ه ت ع الى {م ا ن ن س خ م ن آي ة أ و ن ن س ه ا} Narrated Ibn `Abbas: `Umar ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه said, "Our best Qur'an reciter is Ubai and our best judge is `Ali; and in spite of this, we leave some of the statements of Ubai because Ubai says, 'I do not leave anything that I have heard from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) while Allah: "Whatever verse (Revelations) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten but We bring a better one or similar to it." (2.106) - Omar ( r) Lirst praises his companions: how much the companions valued one another, appreciated each others qualities. We should do the same also: before each other and also behind them: praise and ackowledge the good - IF someone makes a mistake: dont accept it: point it out - Ubay said that he would pass on everything he had heard from the Prophet (s). This is what he believed - Omar differed, that the recitations which are abraogated should not be passedo n
5 - So even though Ubay had seniority, the qira ah adopted by the majority should be passed on - The Quran and the sunnah - both we accept. some people say that if there is hadith that contradicts the Quran we will leave it. Why would a hadith contradict the Quran? How is that even possible? Are you claiming that the Prophet (s) contradicted the command of Allah? Not possible. But yes there is abrogation: So there would be an ayah revealed, and after some time another ayah was revealed that aborogated it - Why was their abrogation? according to wisdoma nd need the Quran was revealed gradually. So for example, alcohol was not prohibited at the beginning. When Linally the verse will you stop was revealed, then the benelits mentioned in the Lirst verse were aboragated - Ubay was not aware of the abrogated verses, so he would recite them. He said he had heard them from the Prophet (s), so he will not stop reading them. Omar differed, that no since they are aboragted they should not be recited. - Some abrogated verses were removed from the memory of people also, and some were not. So Ubay continued to recite even the abroagted verses. - Omar publicaly made this statement - Now there are differences amongst scholars. We read different statements of scholars, sahabah about Mann: some said citrus, some dew, some said soemthing else sahabi, tab in differed. When the statement of a tabi i differs from the statement of companion, we take the statement of the companion. - sometimes, the statements appear to differ because the words are different, but if you think about it, its the same. different statements lead to the same conclusion. - sometimes, there is clear ikhtilaf. for that also there is a reason: soemtimes, naskh. - even in hadith there is naskh. - so when doing tafseer, the mufassireen mention the time when the given verse was revealed, so that you know whether it abrogated something else in the QUran. - This is a need, human nature: things evolve, they need to be changed with time. So the commands in the deen also changed to suit the needs of people. And this was done during the time of revelation. The deen is for all people, all times until the day of Judgment. - some things we object to, because they do not make sense to us, so should we start denying them? - Naskh: to copy, remove, erase. TEchnically: to repeal a command, or remove its words completely. - Naskh: established in our deen. Ijmaa of the scholars. - The wisdom: create ease, or increase reward for the servants
6 And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, [O Muhammad], are but an inventor [of lies]." But most of them do not know. Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make Lirm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims. [Nahl: 101, 102] - Some times, one command is cancelled by a new command. - Naskh is of two types: either something similar is given, or something better - Three types: - Tilawah and hukm abrogated - Tilawah abrogated and not the hukm - Tilawah is not abrogated but the hukm is قوله وقد قال الله تعالى الخ هو مقول عمر محتجا به على أيب بن كعب ومشريا إلى أنه رمبا قرأ ما نسخت ت لاوته لكونه مل يبلغه النسخ واحتج عمر لجواز وقوع ذلك بهذه الا ية [فتح الباري] And from Allah Ta ala s words, till the end, Umar said that he is giving an argument against Ubai bin Ka ab pointing to the matter that Ubai sometimes recites certain verses which have been abrogated, because he is unaware of the annulment (of these verses). ع ن اب ن ع باس ق ال خ ط ب ن ا ع م ر ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه ع لى م ن بر ر س ول الل ه ﷺ ف ق ال ع لي ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه أ ق ض ان ا و أ يب ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه أ ق ر ؤ ن ا و إ ن ا ل ن د ع م ن ق و ل أ يب ش ي ي ا و إ ن أ ب ي ا س م ع م ن ر س ول الل ه ﷺ أ ش ي اء و أ يب ي ق ول لا أ د ع م ا س م ع ت م ن ر س ول الل ه ﷺ و ق د ن ز ل ب ع د أ يب ك ت اب [مسند أحمد: [21086 Narrated Ibn `Abbas he said: `Umar ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه delivered a sermon to us on the minbar of Allah s Messenger,ﷺ so he said: " Our best judge is `Ali ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه and our best Qur'an reciter is Ubai ر ضي الل ه ع ن ه ; and (in spite of this) we leave some of the statements of Ubai and Ubai heard a lot of things from Allah s Messenger ﷺ and Ubai said, whatever I heard from Allah s Messenger I would not leave it though Qur an was also revealed after Ubai (some of the recitation were abrogate as well) - The sahabah did not blindly follow people - And only Prophets are ma soom (innocent) - Ubay s recitation was the best, yet he made a mistake, so the sahabah took the good from him, and di not blindly follow him - all people are faulty, look past their faults and do not blindly follow them at the same time ب اب } و ق ال وا ات خ ذ الل ه و ل د ا س ب ح ان ه { Chapter: "They say, 'Allah has a son.' Glory be to Him!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah said, 'The son of Adam tells a lie against me though he has no right to do so, and he abuses Me though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is that he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before; and as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have offspring. No! Glorified be Me! I am far from taking a wife or offspring.'
7 - Believing in Allah means that we believe in His Dhaat (Being, Existence), but also His Sifaat (Names and Attributes), His Ruboobiyah and Uloohiyah (Lordship and being worthy of worship) - Many people believe in Allah: in a God: Creator Lord - like the people of Makkah, but then why were they called mushrik? because they associate partners with Allah, and that also they did not believe in HIs Attributes the way they should have. They believed that others could do the same as Allah can: for example: Nimrod said I can give life and give death. - So it is necessary for us to learn the NAmes and Attributes of Allah, and their meaning also. This is the best, most superior knowledge. So that we can be saved from shirk - so in this hadith: is the person denying Allah s Existence? No. he is denying Allah s sifah: of bringing the dead back ti life. But denying Allah s Attribute is equal to denying Allah. - Our actions will have meaning only when our belief about Allah is correct. - The mushrikin claimed that the angels were the daughters of Allah this is an insult. its like cursing. What is a curse? for example. son of so-and-so this is an insult. Allah does not have a child, and claiming that He has a child is an insult, just like calling a human being the child of an animal. It is extremely derogatory: insulting a human being is also serious: would you like it if someone addressed you like that? no. never. So Allah does not like it either. This is why Allah can forgive all sins, but He will not forgive shirk. - The Book of Maghazi was easy: all stories. now we are learning technical things, more serious and academic things to strengthen your knowledge and understanding. - Change is diflicult, but it is also very benelicial. - People would travel miles for months on horses to listen to just one hadith; they would listen to the hadith and then turn back right away, so that their intention would not be corrupted. You drive here in a heated vehicle, looking at the beauty around you, and then on the way back do your groceries ب اب } و ات خ ذ وا م ن م ق ام إ ب ر اه يم م ص لى { Chapter: "Take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer." The root of mathaba (place of assembly) (2:125) means they return to a place. - so its the place where people return to all the time: they go back to it again and again Narrated Anas: `Umar said, "I agreed with Allah in three things," or said, "My Lord agreed with me in three things. I said, 'O Allah's Messenger!(ﷺ) Would that you took the station of Abraham as a place of prayer.' I also said, 'O Allah's
8 Messenger!(ﷺ) Good and bad persons visit you! Would that you ordered the Mothers of the believers to cover themselves with veils.' So the Divine Verses of Al-Hijab (i.e. veiling of the women) were revealed. I came to know that the Prophet (ﷺ) had blamed some of his wives so I entered upon them and said, 'You should either stop (troubling the Prophet (ﷺ) ) or else Allah will give His Apostle better wives than you.' When I came to one of his wives, she said to me, 'O `Umar! Does Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) haven't what he could advise his wives with, that you try to advise them?' " Thereupon Allah revealed:-- "It may be, if he divorced you (all) his Lord will give him instead of you, wives better than you Muslims (who submit to Allah).." (66.5) - This was Aisha (r ) - meaning, why do you have to advise his wives? he can advise them himself. - So verses were revealed و ق ال اب ن أ يب م ر ي م أ خ بر ن ا ي ح ي ى ب ن أ ي وب ح دث ن ي ح م ي د س م ع ت أ ن س ا ع ن ع م ر Another isnad. - So Omar wanted that Maqam Ibrahim should be a place of salah. Allah revealed the verse with the command ب اب } و إ ذ ي ر ف ع إ ب ر اه يم ال ق و اع د م ن ال ب ي ت و إ س ام ع يل ر ب ن ا ت ق بل م نا إ ن ك أ ن ت ال سم يع ال ع ل يم { Chapter: "And when Ibrahim built the foundations of the House with Isma'il: 'Our Lord, accept this from us! It is used in 24:60, "As for women who are past child-bearing age," where qawa'id is the plural of qa id. - So qaaid and qaaidah are both singulars of the word qawaaid Narrated `Aisha: Allah s Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Do you not know that when your people rebuilt the Ka'ba, they made it smaller in area than the original foundations of Ibrahim?" I said, "O Allah's Messenger!(ﷺ) Why don't you rebuild it on Abraham's foundations?" He said, "If it had not been that your people were only recently unbelievers, I would have done that." 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said, "If 'A'isha heard this from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, I believe that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, only omitted touching the two corners opposite al-hijr because it was not completed on the foundations of Ibrahim. - The Prophet (s) did Istilam of only two corners, one with the hajr aswad and the other rukn yamani, but the other corners he would not touch when doing tawaf. and ibnomar explains this was perhaps the reason that those corners were not on the original foundations. - We should be considerate of people: what is beyond their understanding and level should not bementioned to them. If the Prophet (s) began reconstructing the Ka bah and changing its structure, the people would not be able to bear it. - The Kabah also had 2 doors, one for entrance and the other for exit.. the quraysh closed one door, and the Prophe t(s) di dnot open it for the same reason

On that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say:-- "We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us..." (2:136) " - Just like we read the Quran in Arabic, but explain it in a different language so that people can understand - we believe in everything Allah has revealed - so without research neither conlirm nor deny what someone says. So if someone brings a complaint to you, dont aflirm right away, and dont deny either. - So when something they narrate conlirms what is in the Quran then aflirm it, when it contradicts the Quran then reject it. When the Quran is silent about it, then neither believe nor reject. - Leave complicated matters and nuanced discussions to the scholars. There is no need to delve into complicated and more detailed matters. - when you dont have certain knowledge of something, with its proofs then do not start giving your opinions. - One is the intellect and the other is wahy. The wahy should be given preference over the aql. Because the aql cannot comprehend everything, it can make mistakes. - A weak student should be helped, but another student is lazy - there is a difference Alhamdulillah the Lirst Juzz is done
