After many months of tireless and dedicated work by Gala Committee and volunteers, IWOO held its 6 th annual signature gala, newly entitled, The White Dove Gala.

The Gala was a huge success with an unprecedented 450 people in attendance, who enjoyed an evening of fantastic food and entertainment.

This year s gala theme was Fortifying an Ageless Hub: Zero to Senior. The Gala was a huge success with an unprecedented 450 people in attendance, who enjoyed an evening of fantastic food and entertainment. I write to thank you for supporting the Iranian Women s Organization Ontario (IWOO). This organization started over 25 years ago in Toronto by a small group of women who had a vision, and a mission to make a difference. Over the course of the years, IWOO has successfully and wholeheartedly expanded its services to the community in many dimensions. It started out by providing weekly program for the older adult community. It then expanded by adding a weekly moms & tots program, English conversation classes, settlement services, a mobile health clinic and a literary club. Last year, we saw the addition of the monthly pro bono legal clinic. This year, we are on the verge of a very exciting time as we begin our newest projects: we are working with the youth in our community in changing perspectives on sexuality and gender related issues; we are bridging the gap between generations in another new project connecting the two generations in collecting life stories of our older adults and teaching them the use of technology; Finally, we are offering a new parenting workshop for tween and teens. None of these projects would have been possible without the community support and the dedication and energy of our partners, volunteers and members to whom we are greatly indebted. I invite you to join us as we continue to serve the community and look forward to connecting with you as we move forward in achieving our mission: to improve the lives of Iranian women and their families. With the generous support from Mrs. Minoo Mohajer, IWOO presented four scholarships to two college and two university students. در ایي هزاسن تعذادی اس ضخصیت ای اجتواعی سیاستوذاراى اعضا حاهیاى د ستذاراى ساسهاى س اى حض ر داضت ذ. IWOO had the privilege of hosting the following dignitaries: David Zimmer, Joe Daniel, Kathleen Wynne, Shelley Carroll, Jaye Rabinson.

6 Q. Please introduce yourself and tell us how have you become familiar with IWOO? A. My name is Mahshid Mansourian. I was born in Germany and my origin is Iranian. I came to Canada with my parents 17 years ago. I am studying social work. I became familiar with IWOO when I was looking for a placement for my studies. I found out about IWOO on the internet, while searching for a suitable placement. I contacted the IWOO office, had an interview and decided to do my placement with IWOO last year. Q. Why did you choose to study social work? A. I enjoy helping people. During my high school years, I socialized mostly with people from the Middle East. Once in college I got to know people from broader ethnic backgrounds. Originally, I studied Police foundations, but realised it was not for me so I changed my studies to social work because I love working with people in different communities. Q. Why did you choose IWOO for your placement? A. I chose IWOO because I wanted to work with the Iranian community and become more familiar with our culture and language. Q. What skills did you develop at your placement? A. I developed my Farsi language skills. I also improved my computer skills in Excel and Photoshop. Over all I gained more confidence. My placement at IWOO provided me an opportunity to see firsthand issues faced by newcomers in the community, and the necessity of organizations such as IWOO. Further, with this placement I was able to understand and experience on a more hands-on basis some of the theoretical materials we cover in the social work program. Q. Since you joined IWOO, how do you see the organization is moving forward? A. I noticed that there are so many dedicated volunteers in IWOO who help out with all the programs in this organization. I think it s amazing! Q. What are your recommendations for improving IWOO s programs and services? A. I think overall there are amazing volunteers working in IWOO. I feel that IWOO needs to become more known to the community. For example, several people have asked me what is IWOO?, which means they don t know this organization. I think it should become better known in the community and I hope IWOO can increase its services to the community in the future. Dear Mahshid Many thanks for answering our questions.
