1 On the I ordered a taxi home at 21:30:00. During this taxi journey I got into a discussion with my driver regarding Islam. During this time I was informed of the following; - Women were treated worse in the 1920 s in Britain that any Islamic country. - Jesus was not a Jew he was a Muslim. - There are no true Muslims that are involved in grooming gangs. They should be stoned to death. At the end of my journey I was handed a booklet from the Islamic Dawah Centre with the title You Must Know This Man!. Upon receiving this booklet I didn t particularly feel anything other than thinking it was a little unprofessional to be handing out religious material whilst at work.

2 A few weeks later I became aware of a discussion that had taken place on BBC s Question Time on the 26th May A special edition of BBC Question Time was broadcast from Salford following the terrorist atrocities at Manchester Arena on 23rd May 2017 Where one audience member highlights extremist literature received from Manchester s Didsbury Mosque on an open day two years prior to the terrorist attack committed by one of its attendants Salman Abedi. Source - The literature that was discussed was produced by the Islamic Dawah Centre, the same organisation that produced the leaflet I received on the

3 The literature discussed which was published by the Islamic Dawah Centre had the title What Does Islam Say About Adultery And Fornication. The first paragraph of this leaflet reads; Living in a society in which people have accepted western lifestyle as their way of life brings immorality at every step. Modesty, shame and honour have no place in the western civilisation. It is to be noted that this is not a quote that has been taken from the Quran, but is the authors interpretation of the contents of its teachings. Other quotations from this booklet read as follows; - Many Muslims who are so called religious are also the victims of immoral acts and evils of this immodest society, i.e alcohol, drugs, adultery, fornication ect. - When an unmarried male commites adultery with an unmarried woman they should recieve one hundred lashes and exile for one year, and in case of married male commiting adultery with a married female, they should be stoned to death. - They will be cast into hell, is listed as one of the punishments for committing adultery within this booklet. This booklet was given to Paul O donohue in 2015 at an open day event at Didsbury Mosque.

6 Whilst at first glance the leaflet I had received didn t appear to be as extreme as the other booklet I found referenced on the website No2Extremism, I found it disturbing that a booklet from the same family of resources had been given to me. Upon analysing the leaflet and looking closely I have found paragraphs and statements that I consider to be written in a way that completely undermines and writes off any other view point. - You may be an atheist or an agnostic or you may belong to any of the religious denominations that exist in the world today. You may have been a Communist or a believer in democracy and freedom. I found this a bizarre statement, to list democracy and freedom as a counter belief to Communism especially when those two principles are what most societies aim for, especially in the west. - At the level of ideas there is no system of thought and belief - secular or religious, social or political - which could surpass or equal ISLAM. Again, a completely shut off view point, which I believe could be considered dangerous, especially in terms of potentially creating radical and closed mindsets. - They has become the very core of the life of tens of thousands of perfectly trained individuals. The wording in this sentence seems particularly militant.

7 Photo source; no2extremism.org Whilst it could be argued that the leaflet I received is not as extreme as the one which appeared on BBC Question Time in 2017, the same leaflet is still in circulation along with others like mine. Other titles include The Position Of Women In Islam, The Quran s Scientific Accuracy Reverts British, French and Thailand Scientists To Islam and Jihad In Islam. 8 Source; idci.co.uk on the I decided to take a look at the Islamic Dawah Centre website that was noted on the back of the leaflet I received to see what other material was displayed for sale and distribution and found the above examples. He (God Almighty) has laid down for you the Way that He entrusted to Noah, and that We have revealed to you, and that We entrusted to Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Establish fully the way and follow not different ways. Those who believe fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of Taghut (Satan). Do Animal rights activists protect the sheep of the butcher?. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (most ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands.

After seeing examples of the literature produced I was intrigued regarding the funding and running of this charity organisation. - What other charitable campaigns are run? - Are there community outreach projects? - Who are the writers of the material produced? - What does the money from the donations go towards, other than material which already has a cost on the site? On the website itself there is information regarding the costs of materials, photograph examples of the material being distributed as well photograph examples of advertising campaigns. There is no information on this website however about the writers of the material or specific outreach campaigns. I noticed whilst looking at the donate options that the address listed for postal donations was different to the address that appeared on the leaflet I had been given on the } Address } Address displayed on idci.co.uk for cheque donations displayed on the leaflet You Must Know This Man given to me on

10 Photo source; Google Earth I was unsure as to why the address listed on my booklet for postal donations was listed as an address mentioned nowhere else on the organisation website. I Google searched the address for IDCI - 6 Alum Rock Road, Birmingham, B8 1JB using Google maps. I discovered that this address was for a money transfer business named Sangerwal Money Transfer.

11 There is no mention of the Sangerwal Money Transfer business stated anywhere on the IDCI s website nor is it mentioned on the leaflet I received on the I looked for the site online to find out more about the services that it offers and to see if there was any mention of the IDCI Charity Organisation. I wanted to confirm; - If the business was still operating? - If there was any evidence for a link between the IDCI and the Sangerwal Money Transfer business. - If the businesses on the website were valid. 16 Source; Donation-Methods-121-p.php I remembered from previously looking at the IDCI s website that a way of donating was via a bank transfer. The account details however request an IBAN Number. An international bank account number (IBAN) is a standard numbering system, developed to identify bank accounts from around the world. Banks in Europe originally developed the system to simplify transactions involving bank accounts from other countries. Source; I decided to look up the IBAN number noted on the website as; - There is no mention of payments to countries abroad on the IDCI s website. - There is no mention of payments to countries abroad on the Charity Commission website. - The IDCI s charities registration states they can only operate Throughout England And Wales. The information I found using the numbers; - IBAN: GB72 ARAY Swift BIC: ARAYGB22 Matches the information on the IDCI s website and is for a British bank account. - A charity cannot do its work outside the area of benefit specified in its governing document.
