Mount Calvary Episcopal Church Camp Hill, Pennsylvania Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting Sunday, February 12, 2017 The 109 th Annual Meeting of Mount Calvary Episcopal Church was called to order at 11:22 a.m. by Canon John McDowell. Canon McDowell opened the meeting with a prayer and welcome comments. Minutes of 2017 Annual Meeting The meeting opened with prayer at 11:25. Approximately 85 people were present at the meeting and it was determined there was a quorum. Canon Morrow read a letter from Bishop Audrey. See letter in Annual Report. Minutes of 2016 Annual Meeting Motion to approve the minutes by Judy Hawthorn. Seconded by Ann Kistler. Minutes approved. Treasurer s Report and Financials See report in Annual Report. Elizabeth Steck asked for questions regarding the report. Money was saved from the budget of 2015 due to an associate priest not being hired. The expense for Father John is less than predicted because he is working part-time. Future costs of Priest-in-Charge not known yet since that person has not been identified. Kay Rowe asked if employees could get raises every year. Elizabeth reported that all staff was given a cost of living increase in addition to another substantial increase for all staff in was a cost of living increase. Sally Lied questioned why the diocesan fair share for this year has increased by $2500? Fair Share is a formula. They take the previous three years of income and calculate it using an average. What is considered sanctuary income? Three things: alter supplies, flowers, and coffee hour. This was originally funded by the ECW. ECW is part of endowment fund. Sally commented that to participate in Fair Share is the decision of each church it is not something we have to do based on the formula. If we have issues financially this year, we need to ask how much we want to give as Fair Share. Elizabeth reported that the Vestry can discuss that. Cheri Fogarty commented that the outreach committee looks at budget quarterly not just yearly. The Vestry may want to consider doing the same. Bryan commented that they are looking at how to minimize what Fair Share will be/already looking at how to reduce it/to consider Outreach budget before Fair Share. Bryan reminded us to keep in mind that the Diocese is doing a lot for us right now, and they can t do that for free. Fair Share is paid in a monthly sum. There was a question regarding pledges and how to determine income. Elizabeth said the estimate in the report should be a relatively accurate estimate. Dave Carll pointed out that this year s budget is $75,000 less than last year s budget. Elizabeth commented that outreach will be a priority. Bryan said the biggest part of budget is salaries. Maintenance is another big expense. Bryan feels confident that we will rebound quickly and make up that budget deficit. Motion to approve the report by Dennis Stromberg. Seconded by Brother Luke. All voted to approve with one no. Report approved

Senior Warden s Report See report in Annual report. Bryan expressed thanks to the Mt. Calvary family. It has been a difficult time. The people of Mt. Calvary kept him going. 12 Priest-in-Charge Report 2017 Six months ago, I moved from Connecticut to be your Priest-in-Charge. I have had to adjust to a new job and a new home. This seems to be a good time for Amy and me to move and we have enjoyed the transition. While this congregation has certainly presented a number of challenges, it has also been a joyful beginning of new ministry. We are all just beginning to learn about one another as we discern how to use our gifts together. There is the presenting issue of conflict and loss. There has been turnover of staff, and the need for healing following conflict. I know that there is a desire to know facts and to hear a version of the story that would make sense of all that this parish has been through. Unfortunately, the story is not simple and straightforward. The pain we have felt has come though conflict between many people for many reasons. The first step is to listen and to try to reconcile. We can only move forward as we care more about where we are going than about where we have been. We will begin to plan how we will move forward. At the same time we will hold one another gently, working to discern how we can help each other as we follow Christ together. The vestry has been working with the Critical Success Factors that were compiled by Dr. Sharon Barley last spring. We hope to work with the congregation to form some goals for us to focus our work together. There will be opportunities for all of us to work together and I encourage you to participate in group discussions when they are organized. Even without organization, there are many ministries that continue to serve the congregation and the community at large. We have an excellent Outreach ministry. There are active teams for hunger, shelter, and health ministries. The Outreach Coordinating Committee also uses your contributions to support local ministry and respond to crisis when the need arises. There is an excellent Pastoral Care Committee that looks to the needs of parishioners and those who can no longer worship with us regularly. It is good for us to stay connected with people who are working through health problems or loss or changes in physical abilities. While I am privileged to meet people in many stages of life, I know it is very meaningful for people to know that the whole community of Mount Calvary is looking out for them. Our Church School program continues to help form our children as disciples. We have a great nursery and Church School. We are continuing to encourage our young people to both learn and to serve. We are blessed with a congregation full of people of all ages. We can appreciate gifts that many different people have to offer. We are also a bit anxious. There is worry because we don t seem to have as many people gathering in worship on a regular basis. We miss people who have left. We worry about the level of financial contributions. In the short term, we seem to be OK and to have enough, but we worry about the long term. In our fear, we may grasp for simple solutions and quick fixes. What we need to do is the long slow work of healing and listening. The way forward for us is not merely the improvement of numbers. We need to tend to our spirit. We need to take seriously how we pray, how we open scripture together, and how we serve others. We need to recover meaning and purpose before we can offer something to another. We need to grow in our faith so that we have truth to share. We need to be patient with one another as we grow in love. This is how we will create a new future together. I am pleased to begin ministry with you as Priest-in-Charge. I look forward to discovering God s will together. The Rev. Dr. Gregory Welin Priest-in-Charge Senior Warden s Annual Report In last year s annual report, Bishop Audrey Scanlan wrote the following to the people of Mt. Calvary: Canon Morrow and I are working to find just the right priest who can come among you and facilitate the work of healing, re-organizing and moving forward in a way that will bring you from strength, to strength. The person who will serve you best will be wise, skilled in parish systems and human resources, approachable, able to address anxiety and conflict and, most importantly, able to use the strong history that you have at Mt. Calvary to build a promising future. This priest will need to be a good administrator, skilled liturgist, teacher and preacher and a prayerful person of faith. Letter, February 12, 2017 Thanks to God s grace and mercy and to the efforts of Bishop Scanlan, Canon Morrow, and your vestry, with the arrival of The Rev. Dr. Greg Welin as our Priest-in-Charge, we are blessed with the leader she described. Looking over the year past, I see a lot of prayer and a lot of hard work by so many, and much light emerging as our parish enters a new era. So much has happened in such a short time

Along the way, at the start of the year, Bishop Scanlan sent The Rev. Dr. Sharon Barley to listen, to counsel, and to help with healing and with discernment of the way forward. Her work has been the foundation of our strategic planning efforts for church leadership. God was abundantly merciful to our parish in sending us The Rev. Canon John McDowell and The Rev. Canon Fred Miller to serve as temporary Priests-in-Charge as we awaited Fr. Welin s arrival. Both priests know our parish well and served out of a deep love for us. I m personally, grateful to both for their much-needed guidance through this period. So many of you give so much to Mt. Calvary that it s not practical to mention everyone here. But I do want to mention a few whose term of service is drawing to a close. George Park has served faithfully and well as your Junior Warden. He has been my partner in leadership, and I along with all of our colleagues on vestry will miss him greatly in that role. Other strong leaders on vestry ending their terms are Pat Stromberg, Shannon Sweeney, and Pat Bettger. Marybeth Lehtimaki has been courageous, dedicated, and effective in her leadership of our Christian education program, with which Shannon also has helped. John and Melissa Hoy spent long hours helping to ensure a successful Vacation Bible School program. Beyond that, John s quiet leadership in IT, systems, and financial support for the parish for many years has been a model of selfless service. And Cindy Spigelmyer, working from her deep love of Mt. Calvary, has served faithfully and well as our interim parish administrator, assisting Fr. Welin, carrying out demanding and sometimes stressful responsibilities, and acting as the face of our parish. Please, please thank these people and all who give so much of their time and talents in service to us! The end of the year saw as the culmination of a planning and discernment process the hiring of Melanie Gurgiolo to return as our Director of Christian Education. What a wonderful emblem of reconciliation and rebirth! Welcome, Melanie! We continue strong, healthy ministries in outreach, welcoming, pastoral care, lay reading and chalice bearing, and music, along with so many wonderful groups that meet both formally and informally. We ll continue our strategic planning efforts, adult education events, and opportunities for prayer and spiritual formation in the days ahead. I believe the challenge for Mt. Calvary now is the fuller marriage of the active and contemplative sides of our parish personality, embodying the truth of action and contemplation as two sides of the same reality, a hidden wholeness that will guide us ever more deeply in love into a mysterious communion with God, the Holy Spirit, the Risen Christ, and with one another. May it be so! Jack Seefeldt, Senior Warden Junior Warden s Annual Report From a facility standpoint, 2017 was another successful year for Mt. Calvary. The Property Committee, through coordination with the Vestry and Endowment Committee, finalized and executed the Capital Plan projections through 2020 this plan is a rolling plan, looking one year in arrears plus the current year and projecting for the three out years. The Parish Office computer and software were upgraded, allowing for enhanced efficiencies with systems and processes. The security system installation was completed, finalizing the physical access project. Parlor blinds were installed, completing the room updates. The remote microphone project was completed in February. Kitchen appliance replacements were completed in July. Contracts have undergone year over review for updates. Future projects under consideration include exterior brick repointing and organ replacement. Funding for these projects generate from endowment earnings. Respectfully submitted, George Park, Junior Warden

Music Ministry Annual Report During the past year I have played for all the 10 AM Sunday services, the 5 PM Saturday services, extra Christmas/Advent, Holy Week, Lenten and Easter services, as well as all weddings and funerals in the Parish. The instruments in the church have received necessary tunings and adjustments, and the music library maintained. The Mt. Calvary Choir was selected to participate in the American Choral Festival in April, and I have been attending planning meetings for that event. Additionally, I've accompanied the Barbershop Quartet to several nursing homes to provide piano selections. The Choir has maintained membership, losing and adding a couple of members. We continue to rehearse Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings prior to the service. The choir sings all the 10 AM services between September and June, as well as the additional services associated with Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter. While enjoying ourselves, we try to maintain a high standard and sing a variety of anthems suitable to the liturgical season. Fifteen of the members will be participating in the American Choral Festival at Trinity Lutheran in April. Our Mt. Cal vary Quart et (Barb Kaufman, Donna Munde, Kevin Kelly, and Tim Spigelmyer) also participate in services. During the summer months, I brought in outside soloists from time to time. Also, it has been a pleasure to have an instrumentalist in our midst in the person of our new trumpet playing Rector! It continues to be a pleasure to work in this place. Thank you for the musical and personal support I have always enjoyed here. Respectfully submitted, Lynn Alt, Director of Music Christian Education Annual Report Mt. Calvary started the year facing many changes and challenges. With the assistance of Cannon McDowell and Rev. Miller the formation of our children remained strong. The children had many opportunities to participate in the life of the church, during Our youngest members were cared for by our reliable staff Andrea Chronister and Laurie Malatesta for most of the year. In the fall, Laurie was unable to continue on a weekly basis. Gail Nornhold stepped up and helped for the remainder of the year. It is such a blessing to have a permanent staff in the Nursery as the babies and toddlers are greeted each week by a familiar face and begin to feel a part of the larger family our church. The Church school continued with the assistance of nine faithful do bees and many assistants. Throughout 2017, the children participated in Super Sundays, the first Sunday of each month when they meet, as a whole group, when the curriculum is enriched with exposure to Feast Days and other special events of the Christian calendar. These sessions often provide the opportunity for the children to present the congregation, with tokens, of their formation in little verses and goodies. These tokens opened the door for conversation between the congregation, as a whole, and the children. The Souper Bowl of Caring, Valentine sale of cookies, for 4 Diamonds, Palm Sunday procession, Back Pack project, Angel Tree of Giving, Advent Wreaths, Gingerbread Houses, again for 4 Diamonds, and Christmas Pick-up Pageant provided other opportunities for growth and formation. Pizza Club continued on the 1 st and 3 rd Tuesdays. Shannon Sweeney, with my assistance and her loyal sisters, carried the ball for the Spring with lessons which enriched the Church school curriculum and I picked up in the fall with lessons on the Lord s Prayer. Each week the children participated in these lessons as well as had time to socialize and build friendships, and continued the Pizza Club Choir, with Mrs. Alt s helpful hand and smiling face. During March they took a break from Pizza and had spaghetti and pancakes. The Youth Group also continued, on the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of the month. We honored Epiphany with a study of practices around the world and of course the Three Kings treat. Other opportunities provided the children with outreach such as participating with Family Promise and sending packages to our troops overseas. We studied the contributions of the Apostle Paul and assisted with the construction of the VBS set and VBS week. New this year was their weekly participation in the 10:00 Lenten service with readings for the Lenten Candles. This was well received by the congregation. Slate Johnson participated in retreats. Thank you Slate for representing Mt. Calvary

During the week of June the children visited Rome and the Apostle Paul as they studied many of the lessons Paul and his followers presented to the Underground Church. As stated, we had youth participation as well as church members taking on characters such as Paul and his guard and the youth and older member participating as classroom, canteen and game assistants. As with Church school, it would have been impossible to have such a great week without the dedication of the classroom teachers. An added treat this year was the participation of 4H members and their animals. Providing Christian Formation to our children means giving them a safe environment for fellowship and instruction. Thanks to Brian and Kelly Fogarty, Mt. Calvary continues to provide our children with a comfortable and nourishing environment while leading the diocese in promoting the Safeguarding God s children program. Remember, all volunteers need to remain current with Safeguarding training and clearances. So, please make it a priority every three years to recertify when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you, for all the support you have given me, the Church School and Children &Youth programs throughout I encourage your continued participation and know Mt. Calvary welcomes your suggestions for the future of the children and youth activities in the parish. I hope 2018 is a fun and rewarding year for all. Again, I and MCP are grateful for all your participation, which makes our programs and activities a success. Respectfully submitted, Marybeth Lehtimaki COMMITTEE, MINISTRY AND OTHER REPORTS Report of the Communications Committee The Communication Committee has the following goals 1) Assist the church administration to be efficient and consistent in its communications with parishioners 2) Develop and maintain an array of communication tools 3) Assist different entities of Mt. Report of the Endowment Committee Committee Chair: William Bingham Alex Langan, Bryan Woodward, Amy Gaudion, Jack Seefeldt and William Bingham represented Mount Calvary as members of the Endowment Committee in Mount Calvary invests its funds through the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) and the State Street Global Advisors (SSGA). Utilizing the ECF benefits Mount Calvary in many ways including routine conference calls with ECF/SSGA and a significantly lower investment fee. The Endowment Fund enjoyed a very good year and returned 17 percent in This return was in line with the portfolio composition and custom benchmark. In 2017, Endowment funds were withdrawn to establish a fund for the necessary replacement of the organ in the near future

Over the past decade the Endowment Fund has grown by 93 percent, while providing more than $276,000 for the capital needs of our church. The success of the Endowment Fund is due in no small way to the knowledgeable and dedicated leadership of Todd Richards, Chair of the Committee for many years. On behalf of the Endowment Committee, I would like to thank Sally Lied for her service as a committee member. Sally resigned from the committee in Amy Gaudion was appointed to fill the unexpired term. You may address any questions you have regarding the Endowment Fund and/or the work of the Endowment Committee to any Committee member. William Bingham: Alex Langan, Bryan Woodward, Amy Gaudion, Elizabeth Steck as Treasurer, George Parks as Junior Warden Report of the Outreach Committee Committee Chair: Cheri Fogarty The Outreach Coordinating Committee (OCC) realized and acknowledged Mt. Calvary s first 5-year commitment (2012 to 2017) to the outreach program by preparing and passing the 2017 to 2022 Strategic Action Plan and Revised OCC Guidelines and Procedures. The new Plan renewed the parishes commitment to God s commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves, expanding our caring culture and our offerings. Our approach to the 2017 outreach budget went from a yearly to a quarterly allocation. This approach provided us the opportunity to pace our outreach spending with Parish operations. In 2017 Outreach spending equaled approximately $11,650. These funds were spent on a wide variety of activities and were paired with many active volunteer hours: Home rehabilitation and repair volunteer activities Habitat for Humanities (5 opportunities) and God s Helping Hand (4 weekends) Overnight shelter volunteer activities Men s Winter Overnight Safe Haven (2 weeks) and Family Promise (4 weeks two overnights each) and parishioner submission of art for the Family Promise Art Auction Shelter donations provided to Men s Winter Overnight Safe Haven, Family Promise, Downtown Daily Bread (new overnight shelter program), and Capital Area Coalition for the Homeless Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer activity Health and Youth Donation and/or Fundraiser Four Diamonds and Ronald McDonald House Food Bank volunteer activities Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Food Bank collections and donations Ecumenical Food Pantry and New Hope Ministries Food Pantry (West Shore) Special collections and donations Christmas Giving Tree for New Hope Ministries (West Shore), Backpack Project for New Hope Ministries, A Taste of Jazz Benefit for St. Paul s Episcopal Church Missions, and The Shippensburg Episcopal Home (handicapped door project) Mission and Relief donations Sia Mahoney citizenship support, Stephanie Johnson s Haiti Mission Trip, American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Fund, Diocese of Central Pennsylvania Special Projects Fund, Episcopal Disaster and Relief Fund Hurricane Funds. If you would like to know more about any of these activities and donations and if you would like to know how you may get involved, please contact a member of the OCC. Finally, the OCC would like to thank the many volunteers and the generosity of the Parish for making this work and mission possible. Respectfully submitted, Cheri Fogarty Report of the Contemplative Prayer Group Group Leader: Jack Seefeldt Mt. Calvary s Contemplative Prayer Group began on November 6, 2017, and continues to meet on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. The group has the following goals: Explore the nature of prayer and introduce some of the most widely practiced methods Provide an opportunity for quiet prayer together in an Episcopalian context Practice group prayerful reading of scripture Allow for sharing and discussion of our experience of prayer

The initial sessions focused on an introduction to contemplative prayer, and to the following methods: Lectio Divina (Prayerful Reading of Scripture) John Main Christian Meditation Jesus Prayer Centering Prayer Welcoming Prayer The group continues to introduce methods and exercises from time to time, but sessions now comprise primarily a 20- minute period of silent prayer followed by prayerful reading of a selected scripture passage, framed by the Noontime Prayer liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer. All are welcome: participation requires no previous learning or experience. Respectfully submitted, Jack Seefeldt Report of the Parish Life Committee Committee Chair: Cindy Mueller The Parish Life Committee was busy helping to plan events for Mt. Calvary in We had a busy year in 2017 with two priests leaving and Father Greg joining us at Mt. Calvary. We had coffee hour and brunch for Father John and Father Fred. We had a church picnic on June 11th and it was well attended and the weather was very good. After Father Greg came to the parish we had a Meet and Greet Party for Father Greg and Amy the evening of October 7 th, It was nice to have some time to get to know them. We also sponsored five home gatherings at five different parishioners houses in the month of November. There were 6-10 people that came to the homes to get to know each other and meet Greg and Amy personally. That was such a success that we would like to do more of them in The Parish Life Committee appreciates all the people of the parish that attended these events and look forward to more in Respectfully submitted, Cindy Mueller Report of The Pastoral Care: Committee Chair: Tim Spigelmyer The team consists of Lay Pastoral Assistants who have received thoughtful and caring education and training on how to support our church family in their pain, loss and anxiety as well as their triumphs and joys. In particular, in difficult and demanding times such as a critical illness or other traumas in life, we will focus on your emotional and spiritual care and will seek to walk with you along your path. This important ministry works closely with the rector to provide pastoral care to anyone in need. In 2017 Lay Pastoral Assistants and other volunteers included Nancy Richards, Karen Watson, Micki Bingham, Betty Jordan, Sally Ahrens, Ann Kistler, Elizabeth Van Dyke, Marianne Russell, Janet Stevenson, Cindy Mueller and myself who provided care to several dozen parishioners. This support ranged from providing critical contact and community social services information, arranging for meals to be delivered, providing transportation, sending cards of sympathy and comfort, offering prayers and communion or simply visiting and listening with love and compassion. If you are in need or know someone in need of pastoral care please to do not hesitate to contact any of the Lay Pastoral Assistants or the church office. Many Blessings Tim Spigelmyer, Chairman Report of the Welcome and Evangelism Committee Committee Chair: Sally Ahrens The Welcome and Evangelism Committee is a group who provides friendly faces to all who enter Mt. Calvary each week. For those who are guests, the committee gives a welcome bag and is the first step toward a vibrant, caring relationship with us. For those who are regulars, the committee helps monitor and improve relationships by inviting anyone to participate in any on-going work that may be of interest to the family or individual. We continue to discern how God is calling us collectively to fullfill this important ministry and would value input from all parishioners. The committee members are Father Greg, Yvonne Carmicheal, John Brady, and Sally Ahrens

Eucharistic Ministers Leader: Priest-In-Charge Our Eucharistic Ministers help lead our weekly worship. They are responsible for reading scripture and leading intercessory prayers. They also assist in the distribution of holy communion. Eucharistic Ministers must be good public speakers and able to both read and interpret what they read so that they can be understood by the congregation. Eucharistic Ministers are selected by the Priest in Charge and licensed after a short training. Anyone interested in this ministry should contact the Priest in Charge. Acolytes Leader: Kurt Waldner 2017 was a great year for acolytes and Crucifers! Father Welin brought a new energy to the roles by introducing a Gospel bearer and a Gospel processional and by inviting the acolytes and the Crucifer to join in Communion preparation. It has been exciting to see the youth become more involved and engaged in the service. We would like to thank the following youth who dedicate their time and talents each Sunday to make the service run as smoothly as possible: Slate Johnson, Lily Jordan, Isabelle Rhodes, Luke Waldner, Elsa Yelk, Alice Benavides, Nora Gaudion, Maria Benavides, Nora Golding, Coryn Sweeney, John Waldner, Andrew Woodward, Caden Yanko, Ivan Yelk, Ceci Benavides, Thomas Hollingshead, Abby Golding, James Gaudion, Peter Gaudion, and Cate Johnson. We are always looking for additional volunteers. All children ages 8 and up are welcome to join our ranks and, on average, would be scheduled to serve once every two months. Talk to Kurt or Heather Waldner for more information. Respectfully submitted, Kurt and Heather Waldner Altar Guild Leader: Nancy Richards Sacristans serve the congregation and the ministers by preparing all the physical elements needed for services. They prepare the vessels and linens for the Eucharist, put out an appropriate quantity of bread and wine, assist in vesting, ensure the Lectionary and Gospel Book are properly placed; clean the vessels and linens used for Communion, and restore the vessels and utensils to their proper place. Sacristan training is provided. There are currently 13 regular and 2 substitute members. We are indebted to the Altar Guild teams for their behind the scenes commitment and service to the beauty and solemnity of our worship experience. Ushers Leader: Lee Jackson The women and men within our parish who serve in this ministry are much more than collection takers and distributors of bulletins. They represent a caring community, welcoming visitors, assisting new members, and helping the disabled experience an accessible environment. Ushers need to arrive 20 minutes before the 10:00 AM Sunday service. As always, during this past year I have enjoyed working with all of these fine people. Respectfully submitted, Lee Jackson Book Club Leader: Linda Farrell Book club is a time of fellowship, entertainment and widening our horizons. Our selections range from the classics to historical fiction, mystery and best sellers. Membership is open to all. If you find a book interesting, come for that meeting. No need to sign up for any particular amount of time. We select books by member suggestions and consensus. Our discussions are gentle and respectful. All views welcome. Please give us a try. We have fun! We generally meet in the Parlor after the 10:00 service the first Sunday of the month. Find our selections in the Bulletin and on the MCP website. Coffee Hour Committee Chair: Tim Spigelmyer Every Sunday, except for summer, parishioners and guests attending the 10 AM Service are invited to Coffee Hour after the service. This is a wonderful time for fellowship while enjoying various beverages and assorted pastries, fruits and snacks

The Coffee Hour Club meets occasionally to ensure that the kitchen is stocked appropriately, to assist parishioners that volunteer to host coffee hour and to plan and assist with special coffee hours that celebrate and recognize events in the life of the church. If you are interested in joining the Coffee Hour Club or hosting a coffee hour please see me. Participation is simple, fun and rewarding and a great way to get to know your church family. Many Blessings Tim Spigelmyer Flower Arrangers Leader: POSITION OPEN One week each month and at Christmas and Easter, parishioners sign up to arrange flowers for the altar. These volunteers take part in this ministry to honor loved ones connected with Mt. Calvary and to the glory of God. Men s Breakfast Leader: Dean Wharton The Men s Breakfast Group meets the first Saturday of every month from September through June. We gather at 7:45 a.m., start at 8 and end promptly at 9. We meet at the Cornerstone Coffeehouse located at 2133 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA. This year we are studying The Lord's Prayer. We share the responsibility of leading the discussion from within our own group. We have an attendance from men every meeting and are looking to expand our group. If interested call Dean Wharton at or dwwfpa@hotmail.com. Prayer Chain Leader: Julie Vetterlein We continue to receive many requests. Our openness to hearing details of each person's problem is not necessary for Jesus. We do it for ourselves as we believe Jesus is "All Knowing" and will respond to our prayers in His way and in His time. We do this to encourage friendship, love and compassion among us.we are blessed to have among us a member of the Prayer Chain who sends loving thoughts to many who have asked for prayer. Her name is Elizabeth Van Dyke. She does this by personal notes, with their permission. Her words of comfort are always beautifully expressed. It has been my hope for several years that we can grow in numbers to include most of the women in Mt Calvary. We now have 50 members. Wouldn't it be wonderful to know that you or your loved ones are being prayed for by so many! You are welcome to join the Prayer Chain at any time. Requirements are few. We ask you to pray for two weeks for each new person. Also, check your computer daily for new requests. Prayer requests must begin with juliev@mtcp.org Faithfully submitted, Julia Vetterlein Shawl Ministry Leader: Elaine Foster Mount Calvary Parish has a wonderful Shawl Knitting Ministry. Most people find knitting is relaxing. It's like a mantra. The shawls are created with prayer, and will be blessed at the altar and then given to those in need of blessing. Of course, this is not restricted to women. A prayer is included with each shawl. We meet Sunday mornings in the Parlor, following the early Service, at about 9:00 am, and would love to see you among us. Some people are not always able to meet on Sunday mornings, and they work on making prayer shawls at home and then they bring them in when completed. If you like to knit or crochet, and would like to find out more about what we do, please contact Elaine at (717) Women s Study Group Leader: Joan Neyhart The Women's Study Group meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the parlor. We read and discuss books that will help our spiritual growth. We are also developing a greater connection with women of Mount Calvary and we invite all women to stop in especially if you see a title of a book that seems of interest. We also sponsor a Woman's Retreat each fall was our 4th annual with Reverend Kate Harrigan of St. Paul's, Harrisburg as a truly inspiring facilitator for our day. If you have questions you may call Joan Neyhart at

Nominations Committee Members of the Nominations Committee are charged with selection of candidates for vestry service, and usually include vestry members coming to the end of their terms. Committee members in 2017 are Pat Bettger and Shannon Sweeney, assisted by Jack Seefeldt. This year there are four vacant positions on vestry. Ms. Bettger and Ms. Sweeney are completing their full terms, while Pat Stromberg is completing the term of John Brady, who resigned last year to allow all five of last year s candidates to serve. In addition, Junior Warden George Park has made a difficult but necessary decision to resign his vestry seat. The committee is delighted to present the following slate of outstanding candidates, with gratitude for their willingness to serve: Kurt Carr Linda Farrell Peggy Huffman Ami Levin
