The Appearing The Appearing starts this Friday night, right here at Linwood Church! This fivepart experience features Shawn Boonstra from the Voice of Prophecy and Pastor Volody and Pastor Ryan, exploring endtime prophecies. The five meetings are October 12 th at 6:30pm, October 13th at 6:30pm October 14th at 6:30; October 15th, at 6:30pm; October 16th at 6:30pm. Invite your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to this great outreach opportunity. Notes of Encouragement Whether someone needs encouragement, dealing with difficult times, needs friendship, an expression of appreciation, or something different, you are welcome fill out a Note of Encouragement card in any of the pews. Friday Night Vespers 6:30 PM-7:30PM We are excited to be having Friday night Vespers. Everyone is invited! Craft Meet We are meeting again on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays each month. Since the fellowship hall will not be available yet, we have been given permission to meet in Bob Oster s class room. 8 After a brave battle with cancer, Gerrine Njenga closed her eyes to rest in the Lord on September 23. She was 42. Gerrine and her husband, David, have been Linwood members since She is survived by David, and two sons, Johnathan and Jayden. Gerrine s smile, as well as her sense of humor, would fill any room with the cheerful joy and love for the Lord. Their home was also filled with that love and it was shared with others when they opened their home as an Adult Family Home facility. Below are some messages shared on Facebook: My sweet friend Gerrine Njenga just went to be with the Lord at the young age of 42. I promised her over a year ago, that whenever she came to my mind, I would pray for her boys. So David, know that the rest of my life, when I remember your beautiful wife, I will stop and pray for you and your boys. She is loved by many Loss of a sweet friend, Gerrine Njenga. Cancer takes another life, rest for now my beautiful friend. Very sad for family members. She fought an incredibly good fight and the thing she will see is Jesus's face. Pain-free my inspirational friend Gerrine Njenga! Goodbye to a beautiful person, inside and out. See you on the other side. Will miss Gerrine. She did have a good sense of humor and she was kind. Oh, Gerrine!! Rest now, your work here is done. I will never forget your encouragement and helpful tips regarding care of wigs to my mother at the Women s retreat in You have always been resilient, no-nonsense and had a killer sense of humor. I can t wait to hug you again when the Lord wakes you at the second coming. You will always be in our hearts. I will miss your cheerful spirit, kind heart, and beautiful smile. There will be a service to celebrate Gerrine s life on October 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Linwood. Please remember to lift up her family in prayer during this difficult time. October 06, 2018 Page 8

10 UPPER COLUMBIA CONFERENCE NEWS Guatemala Mission Trip March 20 April 3 Cost $1900. Upper Columbia Conference is sponsoring a mission trip to the San Luis, Guatemala area. Participants will get to help build a church and have an after school VBS program. You can visit our website for additional information and an application at uccsda.org/guatemala. We are also taking donations for suitcases to take additional supplies for the trip. "Beautiful" Women's Retreat this Fall - Oct In addition to our inspirational keynote speaker, Dr. Cindy Tutsch, a number of breakouts will be offered during the retreat weekend. Jennifer Carpenter, an attorney, will share her passion for keeping our children and teens safe from abuse. How do you best to talk to your children and teens about purity and safety in an age-appropriate way in our jungle of a society. What is appropriate touching and what do you say on topics like sexuality and at what age? In one breakout for the teen girls, Carpenter will also share the value of carefully making decisions in your teen years about consent, interaction with others and making choices you won t regret later in life. Dietician Jeanne Ekvall will challenge with a breakout about God s Gifts, and Lorrie Kravig promises a fascinating breakout on Edible Plants. And there will be more. 11 Training for Youth Leadership and Youth Who Lead - Oct This Youth Sabbath School Leadership Training by the North American Division and the North Pacific Union is for adults and youth who lead, or will soon lead, Youth Sabbath School. This is an opportunity be a part of a fantastic team that is impacting young people, families, and groups for the kingdom of God, all while living in a beautiful environment. Camp MiVoden was founded in 1940 and is an iconic Seventh-day Adventist Camp that has been connecting campers to Christ for generations. During the summer the food service director will be training, teaching, and coaching a food service staff to serve youth camps, family camps, SDA employees and a large retreat group or two. During the fall, winter and spring the food service director will be working with a small staff to serve rental groups primarily with food service but also in other areas as needed. Positions Available Classroom Aide for 3/4 Grade - Classroom Aide will help manage a large class, grade papers, and tutor smaller groups of students. Preschool Director- Preschool Director will manage and oversee daily classroom operations, develop curriculum, and communicate with parents. Child Care Aide- Child care aide will help manage large number of students before and after school and hand out snacks. 12 We Believe That the Bible is the final authority for all belief and practice for the Christian (2 Timothy 3:16-17). 2. That there is one God revealed in three persons God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17: Genesis 1:26). 3. That we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (John 3:16, 1 John 5:12-13 & Ephesians 2:8-9). 4. That Christians who have been redeemed by Jesus will live in obedience to all of His commandments (John 14:15). 5. That Jesus will come again very soon (John 14:1-3). 6. That the requirements of the Ten Commandments are still binding on all people today, including the seventh-day Sabbath of the fourth commandment (Matthew 5:17, Exodus 20:8-11). 7. That the judgment which will decide the eternal destiny of all people is now taking place in heaven (Daniel 8:14, 9:25-27). 8. That when a person dies one does not go immediately to heaven or hell, but rests in the grave as one who is asleep awaiting the resurrection (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6, John 5:28-29, 11:11-14). 9. That after Jesus comes again, the people of God will judge the world with Jesus, following which fire will fall from heaven to completely devour the wicked and purify the earth (1 Corinthians 6:2-3, Revelation 20:4-9, 2 Peter 3:10-13). 10. That God, as a loving Father, wants us to live healthful lives avoiding foods and substances He has declared unfit, and actively pursuing positive lifestyle habits (Leviticus 11, Proverbs 20:1, Daniel 1:8, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). 11. That the followers of Jesus will live pure and honorable lives making sure their business, recreation and relationships meet the Bible standard (Philippians 4:8). 12. That God gives spiritual gifts to His people for the purpose of ministry. Given by the agency of the Holy Spirit gifts provide the abilities and ministries such as faith, healing, prophecy, proclamation, teaching, administration, reconciliation, compassion, charity and other gifts. (1 Corinthians 12; Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Peter 4:10, 11). 13. That the Seventh-day Adventist Church fills a special role in the world today to prepare people for the 2nd coming of Jesus (Rev. 14:6-13). 14. That we will grow as we spend time with God in prayer, as we feed on His word and share His love through witnessing.(2 Timothy 2:15; Ephesians 6:18; Galatians 5:22-25) 15. That the Bible teaches that all who have accepted Jesus as their Savior/Lord, and who intend to obey all the teachings of the Bible should be baptized by immersion (John 3:5; Mark 16:16 & Matthew 28:19-20).
