When you look at others, do you see the face of Jesus in them? 2 A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ED Dear Parish Family, The peace of the Lord be with you this day! Saint Augustine once said, He that is jealous is not in love. Jealousy is often considered the vice of vices because it destroys inner peace and cast a dark shadow on life itself. When jealousy takes hold of one s mind and heart, you are constantly at war with yourself and others. Hence, the famous quote of William Penn that the jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves. This Sunday we encounter the People of God and disciples of Jesus expressing their jealousy that some others are acting redemptively in the name of Moses and Jesus. These persons are more concerned over procedure, credentials and ritual than over the substance of what is being done in the name of the Holy Spirit. Moses has no need to be jealous of his office and the Spirit of the Living God dispensed only through his person. Yet, it is Joshua who has the struggle with jealousy. Perhaps Joshua is worried over his own loss of influence. Afterall, he has been Moses assistant. The response of Moses to this outpouring of the Spirit is indeed proof of his true greatness. Rather than be seduced by jealousy he delights in the lavish abandon of the Lord s outpouring Spirit upon the seventy elders. How can Moses not be so consumed by such jealousy? His sense of security comes from his deeply personal relationship with the Lord God. This week when feelings of jealousy take hold of you, look beyond self and rejoice in the well-being of another! NEW PRE-SCHEDULING FOR THE 2019 MASS BOOK The 2019 Mass Book will open on October 25, 2018 for the pre-scheduling of your Masses on the form that will be inserted in the bulletin the weekend of October 7 th. The confirmed date will be ed to you. Hopefully using this form will be easier than waiting in line all morning. A LETTER FROM THE SISTERS OF CHRISTIAN CHARITY Dear Father Ed and Parishioners of Nativity Parish, As we continue to settle into our new Motherhouse, I wish to thank you in the name of all the Sisters of Christian Charity, for the $37, you gifted to us for our new Motherhouse in a most thoughtful and creative way. The generous giving of your time, talents and treasure through the fundraiser and donations have revealed to us a beautiful example of Christlike love! Very special thanks to all the Companions of Pauline of Nativity Parish who, with the help of Sister Marie Colette and Sister Mary Leonard, directed the momentous task of purchasing sixty exquisitely flowered quilts, bright and colorful bed sheet sets, towels, mattress pads and pillows. And to top it all, these lovely gifts were in each senior Sister's favorite color! We were also gifted with the amount that remained $27,000. How truly amazing! As if that wasn't enough, the Companions and Sisters brought the gifts to Mendham and made the beds for the Sisters as a surprise when they arrived! Then, the Sisters and small groups came to help our senior Sisters unpack and get settled in our new home all kindnesses above and beyond! The parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord are truly special people of God, Father Ed. You are blessed to have them in your parish and we are blessed and grateful that our Sisters are graced to know them and their kindness in the loving spirit of Blessed Pauline! Again, please know that the Sisters appreciate your most generous gift. We will keep you in our prayers and ask Blessed Pauline to bless and keep you always in the loving embrace of Jesus and Mary. Your Loving and ever Grateful, Sister Mary Edward Spohrer, S.C.C. Provincial Superior
