What is the congregation s or organization s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out. Trinity's vision for ministry is shaped by a remarkable story. In the 1980s, a group of Christians from three faith traditions studied the Bible together and came to believe they could also worship together. They patiently overcame formidable obstacles and established an ecumenical parish approved by the Episcopal, Lutheran and Presbyterian churches. Trinity's three denominations/congregations, thriving in covenant relationship for 24 years, reflect our devotion to mission, vision & ministry, in faithfulness to these principles: Unity out of diversity Tolerance & respect Openness & hospitality Connectedness & community Outreach in compassion Visionary planning We strive to live out our vision for ministry by being: A Spirit-led Church. Our story teaches trust in the power of the Holy Spirit and commitment to God's call for unity, acceptance of diversity, dedication to ecumenism, and celebration of our three faith traditions. A Welcoming Church. We are a family of believers who celebrate our differences, focus on our commonality, and treasure our faith traditions. We honor our diversity as we welcome all the unchurched, those from different faith traditions, those who are Episcopalians, Lutherans, or Presbyterians, those of any ethnic background or race, and those of all ages. 6 2. How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency? Trinity recently completed a multi-layered visioning process with broad-based and insightful participation of parishioners, ministry teams, and leaders within the community we serve. During the visioning process we identified multiple areas of emerging needs and discerned the following specific areas for immediate pursuit: enhance our successful youth, family and children's ministries; increase support for the elderly, beyond the extensive pastoral care already provided by a gifted team; expand our community outreach (e.g., enhance preschool offerings; establish Mother's Day Out to support community moms; create a mentorship program for children and youth; expand Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a ministry to help seniors); expand global outreach (e.g., sponsor multi-generational, handson mission trips); and explore offering non-traditional worship and music experiences. It is recognized that while all of these pursuits are not immediately achievable, they do have unity of support from the congregation for building our future. Finally, although the community we serve is racially/ethnically homogeneous (96% white), we warmly welcome all and continue to explore outreach strategies specific to the small and dispersed minority community. (1256 characters) 3. How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals? Excitement abounds as we prepare to add an associate pastor to our highly motivated and gifted staff. The associate pastor position was originally established in 2007 as a necessary expansion of clergy support for Trinity's growing ministry. Ministry teams had proliferated in the 1990s and 2000s as new members joined and sought to fulfill their call to ministry with initiatives involving everything from mutual support within the parish to community and global outreach. As engagement in ministry increased, the demands upon our pastor expanded and required the addition of an associate. The senior pastor and the then new associate (who is currently our senior pastor) formed a strong and seamless partnership team, and in 2011 we issued co-pastor calls to them, formally recognizing what had become a shared, equal and extremely effective co-pastorate. Now we seek an associate who will support existing and emerging ministries as a full partner with the senior pastor. A two-pastor team will have a demanding array of ministry to support. In the next five years as we grow our family, youth and children's ministries and expand our ministry to seniors--it is anticipated that additional staff positions will likely be added. Trinity Ecumenical Parish is seeking a Spirit-inspired, broad-minded, creative thinker with the flexibility and enthusiasm to nurture existing and emerging grass-roots ministry in support of our congregation, our community and beyond. This individual will embrace a team approach to ministry, celebrating true partnerships with the senior pastor, Parish Council, church staff, ministry leaders and parishioners. She or he will demonstrate support and encouragement for the power of small group ministry. As an effective communicator, non-judgmental listening skills expressing tolerance and respect for all will be essential to navigate the rich diversity within our congregation. Focus on

7 children, youth and family ministries will demand energy and creativity. Emphasis on pastoral care will require a compassionate heart and a warm, friendly presence. The ideal candidate will celebrate each day by faithfully proclaiming the Word of God with joy and good humor in all relationships. (988 characters) 5. The five specific tasks, assignments, and programs areas we wish our newly-called pastor to give special attention to during the first year of his or her ministry are as follows: a. Establish strong collegial partnership with Senior Pastor--as well as with staff, parish council and team leaders--in the full ministry of Trinity Ecumenical Parish. b. Lead worship, share preaching and teaching. c. Participate in providing quality pastoral care as a key partner in a pastoral care team made up of Senior Pastor, Parish Nurse, Lay Pastoral Assistant and twelve Stephen Ministers. d. Nurture all existing and emerging ministries in partnership with the Senior Pastor, staff and lay leaders, with emphasis on Family Ministry, Youth Ministry and Children's Ministry. e.
