5 Mission Statement What is your congregation s or organization s Mission Statement? Our Mission is simply our Vision Statement put into action. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. To do justice we are called to: Engage in mission work, Nurture God's children, and Strive for peace, fairness, and human dignity. To love kindness we are called to: Be inclusive and welcoming, Love and care for each other and Be of service to all. To walk humbly with our God we are called to: Learn and be guided by the gospel, Worship faithfully and Grow spiritually. Adopted in 2007 and based on Micah 6:8, our vision is the center of our focus from worship to session and committee meetings to our work beyond the church walls. The longevity of this vision, and our faithfulness to it clearly demonstrates our desire to serve each other, the local community, and the world at large. It encourages us to always look for new ways to serve. Soon we will launch a new ministry to serve cancer patients staying at the Hope Lodge, in Lexington, KY. Our congregation s energy and generosity reflect our love for the world we share with others. In the past, we have supported Living Waters for the World with our time, talents and money by leading four water installation mission trips to Mexico. Our congregation now looks to be called to new areas of global and local service.

What is the congregation s or organization s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out. Our vision inspires our worship, our actions, and our energy. We are committed to making God s love real in our community and the world. And what does the Lord require of us? To do justice we are called to engage in mission work, such as our local clothing and food banks, and food baskets to senior citizens. We nurture God s children with our weekly backpack program and we provide a safe environment by being a Child Safe congregation. We strive for peace, fairness and human dignity with our financial support of Presbyterian Homes for Children, Presbyterian disaster relief, and KY Refugee Ministries. Our youth serve at a local homeless shelter monthly. To love kindness we are called to be inclusive and welcoming. We are committed to making our church a warm, friendly and inviting place for all. The Session s open and affirming study group is exploring exactly what it means to be inclusive and welcoming to all. We love and care for each other with our Martha ministry, prayer shawl ministry, home communion, VIPs, and supper clubs. We are of service to all with our annual Christmas Day community dinner and programs at Taylor Manor. To walk humbly with God we are called to Learn and be guided by the Gospel and worship faithfully. Our Adult Sunday School classes use a variety of sources including the Wired Word, Thoughtful Christian and Present Word. Grow spiritually Our desire is to engage all ages in meaningful worship and education to move our spirits to serve others. 2. How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency? We are blessed with a great location in the heart of the Bluegrass and a beautiful facility, maintained by a generous endowment, which we open to various groups and events in the community, thus engaging with our neighbors beyond the church doors. Moving forward our hope is to achieve more of a presence in our immediate community through increased outreach, thereby increasing the young adult and young family demographic in our church family. We are well aware of the challenges facing us in this endeavor. But, by educating ourselves on issues of social justice with this year s new program, Feed the Mind we hope to better equip ourselves to serve others. Through our Pub Theology ministry we explore issues of faith and how it intersects with current events and our neighbors out in the community. We believe that as we grow in our

7 knowledge and efforts to serve others, we can become a faith community that will naturally attract others in this work. We are intellectually curious and are enriched by our members diversity of faith and doctrine. We enjoy theological discussion and learning. We are called to deepen our faith and spiritual life, and in doing so, fully embrace each member of our church family and broader community. We offer both traditional and contemplative worship. We support Camp Burnamwood because we value the spiritual connections made by generations of Presbyterians of all ages, particularly with our youth. 3. How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals? We seek a candidate who will have clear ideas and experiences as to how the congregation can fulfill its desire to expand the young adult and young family demographic and as well encourage all ages in full participation of the life of the church. We are mindful of the challenges this brings, and we are open to new and innovative thinking and approaches to church growth. We desire to engage in serious Christian reflection with all people in ways that are relevant to their lives. With vision, energy and humor, the pastor will lead, encourage, and empower our congregation to open our minds to the possibilities of service, mission, and fellowship with neighbors beyond our walls. 4. We are looking for intelligent and inspired sermons that connect the gospel with the modern world and call us to demonstrate our faith in action. We want to be challenged intellectually and spiritually. We are looking for someone who is confident and energetic, able to motivate our congregation to do the work of God s kingdom. We seek a pastor who is compassionate, a listener open to the ideas and concerns of others, who is self- aware and mature. We love to laugh, and we would thrive with a pastor who laughs with us. We want a pastor who will come and join our church family, come and be a part of our lives, and share a loving relationship with God and each other. 5.
