3 P A G E 3 Return to the Journey 1 Kings 19:15 Then the Lord said to Elijah, Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus... On the heels of Elijah s powerful victory on Mt. Carmel, wicked Jezebel threaten to kill him. Depressed and fearing for his life, Elijah went a day s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree and asked the Lord to take his life (1 Kings 19:4). After being nourished by the angel of the Lord, Elijah continued another forty days and forty nights traveling as far as Mount Horeb, the mountain of God (1 Kings 19:8). Discouraged and running for his life, the word of the Lord speaks three things to Elijah in a still small voice. Return to the journey! 1 Kings 19:15 Then the Lord said to Elijah, Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus... Elijah was running from Jezebel, and the Lord told him to stop running and start leading! Are you retreating from your spiritual responsibilities? Are you paralyzed by fear and discouragement? The Lord s call to His servants is return to the journey. Chart the course! Set the agenda! Do not allow the enemy to stifle your influence! Get to work! 1 Kings 19:15b-16a... and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria. Also you shall anoint Jehu as king over Israel. The Lord told Elijah that he still had significant work for him to do! He called Elijah to stop retreating, return to the journey, and exert your spiritual influence on an evil culture! Do you feel like there is no significant work left for you to do? Are you like Elijah, ready to die? Get up! Return to the journey! The Lord has plenty of work for you to do! Secure and mentor your replacement! 1 Kings 19:16b... and Elisha... you shall anoint as prophet in your place. Elijah was ready to die, but the Lord told him that the work of the kingdom of God was much bigger than one man! He called Elijah to return to the journey, get to work, and secure a replacement. Elisha received a double portion of Elijah s mantle! Every generation from this moment forward should be empowered with exponential power from on high! Who are you investing your life work into? Who are you nurturing and mentoring to take the torch when you are gone? We must model the Dr. Brent Barker

4 P A G E 4 MOVIN ON UP SUNDAY FOR ALL 6TH GRADERS Mark Williams New Minister of Children Emmanuel Baptist Church We are excited to announce that Mark Williams has accepted the call to become the Minister of Children at Emmanuel Baptist Church. As a church family, you affirmed, by an overwhelming margin, to extend to Mark, Melanie, and his children to become a part of our church family and church staff. Mark and his family will be moving to Grenada later in the month of May and his first Sunday will be Sunday, May 27. Please be much in prayer for Mark and Melanie as they make preparations to move, to find a home, and to transition their two children: Micah & Malaree. We praise the Lord and give honor & glory to His Mighty Name for all He s done and provided. "If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?" David Livingston All 6th Graders need to go to there 6th Grade Sunday School Class this Sunday, May 6, as you will be moving up into the Youth Group. Be there around 9:05. Someone will come and get you and take you to the Youth Room shortly after that. Don t be late we don t want you to miss out on ANYTHING. We re excited about you being a part. Online Registration has Begun!!! This summer, watch amazing things happen as your kids encounter God like never before. You ll see lives changed as kids tour some of the world s most marvelous natural wonders and learn to trust and recognize God as they explore His awesome power. Each morning we ll gather for Worship at the Worship Rally Hangar and then head over to Bible Study at Victoria Falls. Later, we ll enjoy Missions Under the Northern Lights, Music at the Matterhorn, and Crafts at the Great Barrier Reef. The day won t be complete with our Grand Canyon Recreation and Paricutin Volcano Snacks. This summer, watch amazing things happen as your kids encounter God like never before. Barry Worrell, Minister of Music Sunday, May 6, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Choir Room Audition: (1) Sing your favorite hymn (2) Tonal Memory (3) Sing your lowest and highest note. COME AND SING WIH US IN THE SANCTUARY CHOIR OR PLAY ALONG WITH US IN THE ORCHESTRA FOR THE SUMMER! We will be following a special rehearsal schedule during the summer months that will be primarily on Sunday afternoons before the Evening Service. This would be a great time to be a part of the music ministry of our church! You may audition with a friend or friends. (Bro. Barry will be the only person in the room.) To schedule for another time, call Bro. Barry at SANCTUARY CHOIR AND RADIANCE ENSEMBLE will sing together for the 10:30 a.m. Graduate Recognition/Worship Service on Sunday, May 6th. PRAISERINGERS BELL CHOIR will ring in the morning and evening Services on April 20. For Choir, Orchestra, Drama, and Technical Staff who participated in our Resurrection Day Presentation Bow the Knee We will meet on Wednesday, May 9, 6:45 p.m. in the Family Life Center and watch the presentation on a 12 screen. We will serve popcorn and soft drinks. (Participants are encouraged to bring sandwiches and finger foods.) Choir/Orchestra will not rehearse on Wednesday, May 9 due to the Fellowship. YOUNG MUSICIANS CAMP Blue Mountain College July (Monday-Thursday) This is for those who ve completed grades 4-6. Registration Fee is $25 and needs to be turned in no later than may 14.

Barry Worrell, Minister of Senior Adults ONE-DAY RETREAT HOMEBOUND WORKERS MEETING Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 10:00 a.m. In the Fellowship Hall Tuesday, May 29 FBC, Batesville The Preacher will be Bro. Mickey Dalryple and there will have a variety of breakout sessions with such topics as Fun with Mickey Bounds, New Beginnings in Retirement, and Grandpareting. North Oxford Choir will sing, and R.L. and Beth Sigrest from Yazoo City will also be singing. We will eat lunch at Cracker Barrel and attend the Retreat afterwards. Those who register by Thursday, May 17 will receive a gift bag. Sign up deadline is Thursday, May 24. SILVERTONES will sing at the VA Nursing Home in Oxford on Thursday, May 10 and have lunch in Oxford afterwards. We will leave Emmanuel at 9:45 a.m. on the bus and return by 1:30 p.m. We will conclude our singing with a trip to Winona/Eupora Nursing Homes on Thursday, May 24. (Times will be announced later.) ASSOCIATIONAL MERRY MAKERS Annual Health Fair Thursday, May 17 at Friendship Baptist Church We will eat at 11:00 a.m. Come early to take advantage of the health screenings done for free of charge before lunch. NEW ENGLAND FALL TRIP October 3-13, 2012 There are still 2 spots available. Cost is $ per person which includes lodging, airfare, attractions, and a few meals. Trip insurance is available (and recommended) for $ per person. (After the trip is full, we will begin a waiting list.) 55 & Up Ladies Body Fitness Classes All ladies over 55 are encouraged to come to the Family Life Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. for a time of fellowship and exercise! 8 P A G E 8 Graduate Sunday May 6, :30 a.m. Service Please join us this coming Sunday, May 6, for Graduate Sunday during the 10:30 Service. We will be honoring our High School Graduates and recognizing College Graduates. Afterwards, all High School Graduates, their families, all youth, and youth workers are invited to join us for our Graduate Sunday Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. Be much in prayer for this service and this time of recognition. Also, please pray for our students as they prepare for the future before them. MOVIN ON UP SUNDAY FOR ALL 6TH GRADERS All 6th Graders need to go to there 6th Grade Sunday School Class this Sunday, May 6, as you will be moving up into the Youth Group. Be there around 9:05. We ll be boiling Mud Bugs (Crawfish), some shrimp, and also serving other food for those who don t like creepy things. The cost is $7.00 for food and t-shirts are $10 (You did not have to preorder a t-shirt they are 1st come-1st serve).
