June 2018 Vol. 54 No. 6 Inside the Tide: Partnership Gulf Coast Kicks Off June 3-July 28 For eight weeks of the blazing gulf coast summer, your association provides a hot bed of mission opportunities for local churches and visiting churches. This summer 17 gulf coast churches will partner with 19 mission teams from as far away as Tahlequah, OK and as near as Mize, MS. Together the churches and teams will reach the people in our association through backyard bible clubs, mission VBS, sports camps, science camps, and construction work. Most of those eight weeks will be filled with three teams working simultaneously! Praise God!!! Here are the churches and teams participating in PGC 2018: Local Churches Back Bay Church Bayou View Bel Aire Big Ridge Bridge Community Church Christ Church Church at Windance Cornerstone FBC Lyman FBC Pass Christian Fernwood FSBC Pearlington Grace Fellowship* Hillside* Riverside Shoreline Park Vidalia Community Ministries Visiting Teams Beatline BC Philadelphia, MS Birdville BC Haltom, TX Bridge Church Madisonville, LA Casey Creek BC Baldwyn, MS FBC Columbiana Columbiana, AL FBC Mize (2 teams) Mize, MS FBC Tahlequah (2) Tahlequah, OK Gilbert BC Gilbert, SC Hillcrest BC Enterprise, AL Hopewell BC Tuscaloosa, AL LifePointe Church (2) McKinney, TX New Bethel BC Carnesville, GA Oak Grove BC Magee, MS The Exchange Church Pearl, MS Westside BC W Columbia, SC Wyatte BC Wyatte, MS *church not affiliated with GCBA AMD s Desk-Summer pg. 2 Bethel Encounters Retreat Center pg. 8 BSU Summer Missionaries pg. 4 Church Contributions as of April pg. 6 Church News/Churches Without a Pastor pg. 6 Dionne s Corner-School s Not Out pg. 3 Father s Day Message-Thank You Dad pg. 5 Important to You: Prayer Walk Sunday pg. 4 Open Positions in Your Association pg. 7 Partnership Gulf Coast Kicks Off pg. 1 Put This on Your Calendar pg. 5 Sentinel Training pg. 4 Upcoming Events in Your Association pg. 1 Upcoming Events in Your Association Old Highway 49 Gulfport, Mississippi (228) FAX (228) office@gulfcoastba.com Facebook page: Mississippi Gulf Coast Baptist Association
From the desk of Steve Mooneyham AMD Summer is always one of my favorite times of the year. As a kid, it meant that school was out and, generally speaking, the days were mine at least until it was time to mow the yard or trim the grass around the house and walkways with hand shears or work in the garden or any of a myriad of things my parents found for me to do. Anyway summer is still one of my favorite times. These days it means VBS and summer mission teams just to name a couple of things. What excites me about these, however, is the evangelism opportunities that come with them. VBS is perhaps the single-most evangelistic effort by many churches. When you do VBS, it is more than just a time of fun. You have the privilege of speaking truth into the lives of young children in a time when the world is influencing them toward ungodliness. VBS is spiritual warfare. Those who teach and lead in VBS are on the front lines of the spiritual skirmish for the souls of boys and girls and their families. VBS makes a difference, now and in eternity. This year we will host a record number of teams during Partnership: Gulf Coast. This is the 8 th year of this summer missions program. For the first time we will house teams in Hancock County in addition to our facilities here at our offices. This is due to the willingness of Lakeshore Baptist Church to open their facilities to us for teams working in Hancock County. Thank you, Lakeshore and pastor Don Elbourne, for your cooperative spirit. Two key events are approaching you should mark on your church calendars: GCBA Associational Prayer Walk Day, Sunday August 5, We encourage churches to engage their community through prayer, praying for schools, neighborhoods, places of spiritual darkness, places for new work to reach people for Christ, etc. To help with that we will conduct a Prayer Walk Clinic on Thursday May 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the GCBA Training Center. Pastors should come and bring those who will help plan the Prayer Walk Day for their church. Church Leader Training Monday August 6, New Hope Baptist Church. We will have breakout conferences for: Pastors, Prayer Coordinators, Sunday School Directors, Evangelism Leaders, Discipleship Leaders, WMU/Women s Ministry leaders, Men s Ministry Directors, Youth Directors/Leaders, Budget/Stewardship Chairmen and Church Admins. A meal will be served. Please RSVP to Robin by Wednesday August 1, 2018 how many will be coming from your church. Your Gulf Coast Baptist Association is comprised of 65 churches. These churches minister to the people of Hancock, Stone and Harrison Counties. This is our mission field. Your associational staff is here to help you make disciples of the nations, beginning with the people outside your door. Call on us. We work for you. It is a joy to do so. Blessings, Dr. Steve
Dionne s Corner Dionne Williams Associate AMD One of the most helpful resources for me as a Bible Study leader has been 7 Laws of the Learner. The Sunday School/Small Group Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board is offering us a great opportunity to receive training featuring this resource. The event will be held at Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg on Saturday, August 18 from 9 am 4 pm. If you lead a Sunday morning Bible Study or a weekday Bible Study, it will be well worth your time to attend this event. It will be led by leaders from Walk Thru the Bible. This is definitely a must-attend event!
Important to You... BSU Summer Missionaries Keri Rayburn - Canada 8 Association Wide Prayer Walk Sunday August 5 All Day Matthew Smith - Japan Jackson Summers - Canada So often as Christians we feel that we just aren t doing enough for those around us. Whether they are the grocery clerk, the officer on patrol, the mail carrier, or the teacher at the local school, they need prayer and they need Jesus. So here s your chance. Join together with your association and your church to prayer walk the areas you choose; e.g. schools, neighborhoods, shopping malls, fire/police stations, or libraries (pray quietly). If your church is not planning to participate then you can organize a group. We will hold a prayer walk clinic Thursday May 31 at 6:30pm at the GCBA Training Center at Old Hwy 49 in Gulfport. If you are unable to attend the clinic call the office at and we will be glad to provide you with information for a more effective prayer walk. So get to steppin and to prayin!!! Shane Brown - East Asia The summertime - that time of the year when it all slows down, right? Right until VBS, youth camp, and all those summer mission trips. You might think that summer slows life down at the Gulf Coast Baptist Student Union too, but the fact is we re as busy as ever! We re busy praying for the 8 students we have serving this summer on the mission field, Baptist camps, and right here on the Gulf Coast. We hope you ll join us in those prayers. There s also a lot of work going on at our Gulf Coast BSU centers getting each facility ready for a new year of ministry. To all of you who support us in this work through your prayers, time, and finances we want to say, thank you! If you d like to learn how you can partner with the BSU and it s work, you can contact us through the association office. In Him, Stephen Craver Director, Gulf Coast BSU

Youth Pastor/Youth Minister-First Baptist Lyman We are a Great Commission church who is looking for the youth pastor God has purposed to lead our youth and their families in making disciples who make disciples. We are praying for God to send us a minister who has the ability to engage our youth (7-12 grade), and who will work with the rest of the ministry team to see our students and their families faithfully serving the Lord together, in the church and around the world. Our desire is for this minister to be willing and able to teach our youth the Word of God, and to challenge them to make the Bible the directive for their lives. We have students from all of the major schools in our immediate area, and many of them are not shy about inviting their unchurched or lost friends. Many of them are eager to put their faith into action, and are just waiting for the right leader to show them the way. Expectations would be for the chosen candidate to lead the Bible study for Youth on Wednesday night, to teach them on Sunday mornings (or find a qualified volunteer to do this), and to spend time at the different schools represented at our church throughout the week or during the students weekend activities. You will not be expected to do this alone, as the pastor, and other members of our church currently make efforts to support our youth ministry and to be at their various extra-curricular activities.
