2 Community Engagement Pastor As a church family at St. Albert Alliance, we are seeking to grow as apprentices of Jesus, living in the reality of the now-available Kingdom of God. This pursuit is not and cannot be a selfenclosed endeavour, but must overflow through the planting of the gospel - both locally and globally. To this end, we still have a long way to go at St. Albert Alliance - first in having our hearts formed after Christ's heart for the broken and spiritually disoriented and then, secondly, to be mobilized to act accordingly. With this in mind, we are seeking someone to give pastoral leadership to our church family in planting the gospel in our city, region and around the world. We are looking for someone who is both theologically shaped and evangelistically gifted - able to present the gospel in a compelling way that so proclaims the name of Jesus that the broken and spiritually disoriented are captured by the love of our Saviour. Someone whose heart for reaching and ministering to the lost is so compelling that it will significantly shape our church culture as it is reproduced in the people that they lead. Along with this chief area of responsibility in equipping our church family for evangelism both locally and globally, the Community Engagement Pastor will be a member of the leadership team with strategic oversight of the St. Albert Alliance Benevolent Ministry. He will work with the Women s & Teaching Pastor in addressing emergent needs through the provision of social assistance as envisioned by the Benevolent Ministry policy. Additionally, the Pastor will be the point person for weddings and funerals, as well as being the primary contact for male pastoral care. There are also general pastoral care duties outlined in the job description that are an integral part of the overall job function. While the successful candidate will require general expertise in core ministry systems and programs, given the ever-changing cultural realities in our region, they will also need a strong pioneering and innovative spirit. This position is far more than simply a matter of implementing and managing programs, it is about discerning where Jesus is leading us as a gospel-planting community and effectively leading in that direction. The goal is nothing less than St. Albert and region being transformed by Christ along with significant participation in the world-transforming activity of the (big 'c') church. Additionally, our staff team chemistry is considered equally as important as ministry qualifications. Our staff culture is one that is tightly knit and highly collaborative. We work hard in our areas of responsibility, but do not operate as 'silos'. Rather, we value the opportunity to continually dialogue about how we can best align with one another towards a shared goal - namely, equipping the church family of St. Albert Alliance to walk out vibrant apprenticeship journeys with Jesus. 3 MINISTRY POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Accountable To: Ministry Purpose: Community Engagement Pastor Executive Pastor To equip the congregation of St. Albert Alliance Church to grow as apprentices of Jesus and lead and equip the church family to share the gospel in St. Albert and the surrounding region. Evangelism In this aspect of your role, your primary responsibility and privilege will be to lead St. Albert Alliance Church towards rich engagement in sharing the gospel in and around St. Albert. Your passion for and vision to engage the spiritually disoriented and socially outcast, along with a pioneering and innovative drive will help spur on the St. Albert Alliance Church family towards raising the temperature of personal and corporate evangelism. This would, of course, be intrinsically tied to strengthening our efforts to serve our neighbours as a church through engaging both individual and community needs. Lead evangelistic efforts to spread the gospel to spiritually disoriented and socially outcast people in the St. Albert region. Explore innovative ways to plant the gospel in and around St. Albert; through decentralized (resourced by the church) and centralized (facilitated by the church) means. This includes but is not limited to: Facilitation of Alpha (or equivalent) New Believers Discipleship Outreach Events Coach and mentor those who have the spiritual gift of evangelism, and those who attend St. Albert Alliance Church to engage in meaningful relationships with spiritually disoriented and socially outcast people to enable Jesus honouring spiritual conversations to occur. Community Engagement In this aspect of your role you will lead in strengthening the relationship between our church family and our city and surrounding region. You will also oversee the process of addressing emergent requests to St. Albert Alliance Church for assistance. 4 Oversee and implement a sustainable Benevolent Need Policy - providing pastoral care and distributing resources as per our policy to those needing benevolent help. In cooperation with the Women s & Teaching Pastor provide gender appropriate benevolent assistance to those with emergent needs. Partner with other churches and social agencies to address the practical and spiritual needs of those requiring benevolent help. Pastoral Care In this aspect of your role, your primary responsibility and privilege will be to provide pastoral care to those who attend St. Albert Alliance Church and be the first point of contact for spiritually disoriented individuals reaching out to St. Albert Alliance Church for help. In this role, you will work with the Women s & Teaching Pastor to provide gender appropriate pastoral counseling. Counseling and Spiritual Direction Meet with congregants as necessary to help them walk with God and to sort through various relational situations Recruit and equip a team of spiritually gifted volunteers to help care for the congregation Provide male specific pastoral care Lead the Men@Work mid-sized community Recruit and equip men to provide lay leadership to Men@Work General Areas of Responsibility Leadership Team: In this aspect of your job, you will fulfill the function of being a key member of the St. Albert Alliance Church Leadership Team. Attend staff leadership team meetings and team development meetings Contribute to matters of organizational leadership and culture-forming Provide written reports related to ministry responsibilities as required (example: Monthly Elders Board Report) Preaching: In this aspect of your job you will occasionally participate in Sunday morning services through the ministry of preaching in accordance with the overall ministry vision, strategy and direction provided by the Lead Pastor. Staff Agreement: I agree to do my best to carry out the above responsibilities and fulfill my role as a part of the St. Albert Alliance Church Team. I understand that if for any reason, I do not fulfill my role (as determined by Scripture and my supervisor), which may include: exhibiting character that does not reflect Christ or not fulfilling my responsibility and commitments, I will forfeit my position.
