Our Affiliation Crosspoint is part of Converge PacWest, the Northwest District of Converge Worldwide. Converge s focus is to Connect, Ignite, and Transform: Connecting God s people around God s purposes, that He might ignite movements of reproduction for the purpose of transforming lives and communities with Christ s love and truth. Freedom. From Pastor Mike As we start July, we are all mindful of the freedom we enjoy in America. Celebration times, like Independence Day, are helpful in tuning our perspective. Regardless of political affiliation or ideology, the message is often the same: everything is awful and falling apart in the US, it s worse than it s ever been, fear, fear, FEAR! And yet we get to pause, look around, and recognize the truth: there is a lot to work on, but we are incredibly blessed to live where we live. We are blessed to enjoy the prosperity of our country. And we are blessed to experience freedom unlike what most of the world could even Imagine. When we look a little deeper, though, we see that there is a lot of bondage. Even within a country that allows so much freedom, things ARE difficult. The world IS falling apart. And, on an individual level, all the societal freedom in the world cannot overcome the personal bondage that sin creates in our lives. Fear is real. Addiction is suffocating. Broken relationships pierce to the heart. Bigotry fractures. Health deteriorates and can make us prisoners within our own failing bodies. But there is REAL freedom available! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! (2 Corinthians 3:17). The bondage of sin is crushed by the power of Christ. Fear gives way to security. Healing and restoration flow from the cross. And we look forward to the ultimate resurrection of all things through our Savior! As we celebrate freedom this July 4 th, let s remember the source of true freedom and, as followers of Jesus, let s live out the freedom He has purchased for us, in the power of His Spirit! 1 1

2 Family Ministry 2 Dear Crosspoint Family, I m excited to share that Logan Greenfield has accepted our offer to be the new Associate Pastor of Family Ministries at Crosspoint! Please be praying for Logan, Lynn, and their 4 kids as they pack and make the transition from north Texas back here to California. Specifically, please pray for them as they say goodbye and close that chapter of their lives, for safety as they travel, and for them to find good affordable housing here (God is a God of miracles, remember!). To that end, if you or anyone you know has a lead on housing for the Greenfields, please contact the church office. Logan is clearly God s provision for Crosspoint, so let s bless him as much as possible in this transition! Pastor Mike. Q & A with Logan Greenfield, our new associate Pastor of Family Ministries. 1. What hobby would you get into if time and money weren t an issue? I would love to get back into playing my acoustic and classical guitar. It is very therapeutic for me. Also, if I didn t have a herniated disk I would love to wakeboard. I am an adrenaline junkie ;) 2. What do you wish you knew more about? I am not that handy, so I guess learning how to fix various things like cars and doing things around the house. Also, I love growing fruits and vegetables but I am not that good at it or very knowledgeable so it would be great to learn more about that as well. 3. What s your favorite genre of book or movie? My favorite genre for movies is all of them! It just depends upon my mood. My least favorite are now-adays horror movies. But I love everything from drama, to comedy, Disney, and even some good chickflicks (shhh don t tell). 4. How do you relax after a hard day of work? To relax I would enjoy eating some good Indian, Thai, or Mexican Food with my wifey, watching a movie with the wifey, or just plain taking a nap. 5. What s the farthest you ve ever been from home? I went on a missions trip to India & Thailand over ten years ago. We led a Bible conference. The pastors of our church did the preaching; our worship team did all the music. I played bass on that worship team. 6. What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? I think that EVERYONE should visit Israel, scuba-dive, and bungee-jump. 7. What s your dream car? My dream car is a yellow Jeep Wrangler! 22

3 Missions 3 Thanks for sharing in the heart of God s love for our world. This year Crosspoint will once again participate in the CITY KIDS FESTIVAL, organized by the Redwood Gospel Mission every August for almost 2,000 kids (entering K-8 grade) from low-income families. Every registered child will receive a backpack, filled with everything they need for school. We will be collecting 600 packs of COLLEGE RULED PAPER between July 1 and July 22 * Please drop-off at the Welcome Center. Thanks! * Stay tuned for more volunteering opportunities, as we will also be hosting our annual Fish Pond at the City Kids Festival, on Saturday, August 11, from 10am to 4pm. 4 Music Notes 4 What do The Beatles, Frederic Chopin, Tina Turner, & Andrea Bocelli, have in common? They are famous musicians from each of the countries that Barbara and I visited on our 40 th anniversary trip in June. In the same order, we visited England, France, Switzerland, and Italy. We experienced different cultures, fun but confusing languages, crazy driving, and phenomenal landscapes. Our two major highlights both involved music (shocker). In London, we were privileged to attend an Evensong service at St. Paul s Cathedral. Just before it began, they invited us (and a bunch of others) to sit in the Quire during the service. Not only is this where the choir sits (they were outstanding), but is also reserved for major dignitaries in the country. One of the side benefits was a closer view of the main altar that the rest of the audience did not experience. Unbelievable. In Venice we took the gondola ride that included an accordion player and a singer and they were absolutely wonderful, perfect for an anniversary. With our last day there being spent in Rome, and walking on 2,000- year- old paving stones, I couldn t help but think of the time of Jesus in history and be thankful for all He went through for our salvation. To God be the glory, great things He has done, so loved He the world that he gave us His Son, who yielded His life, an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice. O come to the Father through Jesus the Son and give Him the glory, great things He has done! Soli Deo Gloria To God Alone be the Glory Jim Humphreys, Director of Worship Services Simple Stewardship Plans are established by counsel; by wise counsel wage war (Prov. 20:18, NKJV). If experienced generals seek counsel as they wage war, shouldn t we seek counsel for the battles of life? It s hazardous to rely on our own understanding and experience and to ignore the wisdom and experience of other believers who have favorably walked with the Lord. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise. (Prov. 12:15 NKJV). I think of this when someone comes to me to discuss a financial transaction which they have already executed- and it happens way too often. They come seeking counsel after they have sold their house, after they have signed their retirement election forms, after they put all their money into an annuity contract, etc. The best I can do at that point is to see what can be salvaged, advise them of the consequences and what they will owe Uncle Sam in taxes. God has called us to be good stewards of what He has entrusted us with. Stewardship requires humility. Oftentimes, pride causes us to overspend or to move forward on our own understanding. It can be humbling to seek counsel and ask for help. I encourage you to humble yourself, be a good steward and seek counsel - prior to waging war or making big financial decisions.
