Please join us in reflecting on these words as a way of supporting the work we have been chosen to do. Thank you. The Holy Nativity Search Committee Almighty God, look graciously on the people of Holy Nativity. Be with us and lead us as we seek the next rector for our church. We ask your direction and guidance for those who shall choose our new spiritual leader that we may receive an upright and faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries. Grant us perception, faithfulness and joy, so that we may hear your voice in all our deliberations. Grant us also the desire and the ability to truly hear each other and those who have entrusted us with this process. Give us courage to respond and act as you lead us. Come Holy Spirit. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Soup & Salad Luncheon- Sept. 30 th We would like to welcome everyone back with a fellowship lunch after the 10 a.m. service on September 30 th. For those that would like to contribute a dish, a sign-up sheet has been posted by the back doors. Bring your family and friends too- the more the merrier!
2 PAGE 2 HOLY NATIVITY NEWS AND VIEWS A Message from Deacon Bob I would like to invite former Lay Readers to consider a return to service as Liturgical Assistants under the direction of the Rev Bryan Beveridge. You are invited to meet with the Rev Bryan after the 10 am service on October 7 to discuss a return to a more expended role which this ministry enjoyed in the past. I also invite those currently involved or those who may be interested in this ministry to attend. Blessings Bob Crafts & Chats Quilt Raffle The ladies are gearing up for their annual quilt raffle. Tickets will be available for sale after the 10 am services and at the Fall Fair. Tickets are $2 each or 3 tickets for $5. Inn From The Cold During October we will be collecting items for Inn From The Cold. We are looking for gloves, hats, scarves, socks, toiletries etc. for men, women and children. Thank you! Back to Bible Study On Thursday September 20 at we will resume our weekly bible study. Each week we dive deep into the readings for the upcoming Sunday and find that the worship experience is deeper and more meaningful when we have a better understanding of God s word. All are welcome! Pints with Jamie Following Sunday services we often have conversations about things in the news and try to make sense of them in light of our faith and our beliefs. Last year in order to keep the conversations going, Pints with the Priest was created. It was such a hit that the group continued to meet weekly throughout the year. In Tara s absence, the group was lovingly renamed Pints with Jamie and continued to meet on Monday nights. Pints with Jamie will begin meeting again on Monday September 7 pm at the Legion on Horton Road. For any questions or topic suggestions, please contact Jamie: dodds.jamesp@gmail.com. All are welcome!
3 HOLY NATIVITY NEWS AND VIEWS PAGE 3 Fall Fair October 27 th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The fall fair is fast approaching, and we need your help! We are looking for: Volunteers for set-up, running the tables, and take-down afterward. Volunteers to set up and run activities for the kids Donations of gently used toys, puzzles, games etc. in great condition. Donations for the Collectibles table, Christmas Decorations, Jewelry, Books, Crafts and items for the silent auction. And - of course we need bakers by the dozen! There will be a volunteer sign-up sheet posted by the back doors next week. All donations are greatly appreciated, but please note: There will be no white elephant table at the fall fair. Drop offs will be accepted at the church only during the week of October WANTED: Fellowship Leader(s) With Steve stepping down as fellowship leader, we need a couple of volunteers to step up! We are hoping for at least two people to take on this task. If you think that you might be able to contribute to this ministry, please contact Erin in the office! Choir Choir practice has resumed. The group meets Thursdays at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to join- no music experience is necessary, just a passion to sing! For any questions, please contact Win at Winnifred_hume@hotmail.com Calgary Boys Choir Holy Nativity has a new rental group- The Calgary Boys Choir! 4 PAGE 4 HOLY NATIVITY NEWS AND VIEWS Diocesan Celebration The parishes of Christ Church and St. Laurence invite you to a celebration for the following staff people who have resigned from or retired from their Diocesan positions: Barry Foster (Executive Officer and Archdeacon of Calgary) Steven Koning (Director of Finance and Secretary-Treasurer) Murray Tait (Director of Property and Vice-Chancellor) Cathy Fulton (Registrar and Archivist) Dorothy Shultz (Assistant to the Director of Finance) This come and go gathering will take place on Friday, October 26th from 2 to 4 pm in the Crump Room of Christ Church, Calgary. Presentations at 3 pm. Baskets will also be available should you wish to leave a card or gift for any of the former staff members. Please join us and help us say thank-you to these five individuals for their faithful service to the Diocese of Calgary. Cathedral Poppy Project: This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great War. To commemorate the occasion, the Cathedral asked people from across the city to knit and crochet poppies. Some of our Tuesday Crafts and Chats ladies have been knitting and crocheting since the spring. Our group has donated 374 poppies! The cathedral s goal was a random number of 5,000 poppies- they now have over 6,000! They are in the process of tying them onto netting, which will then be hung on the outside walls of the cathedral for their Remembrance Day service on November 11th. If you would like to see the display once they get the poppies hung, you can head down to the cathedral. They hope to have the poppies by October 22 and they will remain there until November 12th.
