All announcements needing to be placed in the bulletin must be in the secretary s mailbox or no later than Wednesday s at 9:00am. Please feel free to leave a message on the answering machine by calling the COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SERVICE: This year's Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday November 20th at 4pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran, Berwick. The offering at the service goes towards the Berwick Area Ministerium's emergency fund which goes to help those who need heating assistance, etc. WESLEY ADVENT TEA: On Sunday November 27th at 3pm Wesley UMC is holding their annual advent tea for all ladies and girls in the area. Sign up sheet is in the back. LADIES CHRISTMAS GATHERING: This year the Ladies' Christmas gathering will be on Wednesday December 14th at 6pm at the Parsonage. Please sign the sheet behind the sanctuary to attend or call the church office. We are asking for all attendees to bring a white elephant gift (something from your house you no longer want) to exchange at the party. Please bring a food item to share. ADOPT A CHILD CHRISTMAS GIFT: This year our child assigned from the Mission District Christmas Gift Program is a 9 year old girl. She enjoys coloring and drawing. She wears size small for shirts and size 8 slim jeans. Feel free to purchase something or give money towards the gifts. We cannot go over $50. 5 Holy Communion As a member of the ELCA, Faith United celebrates open communion. All those who wish to receive the grace found in Christ are welcome to come forward to the table to share in communion. Following the usher s guidance, please come forward down the center aisle, and receive an individual cup. There are two chalices (pouring cups); the first contains wine and the second grape juice. When you have received the bread and wine (or juice), return to your pew via the side aisle. Children and others who do not wish to receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing. If you have not yet filled out a communion card this year please take the time to do that today. Please be seated Sermon Hymn of the Day: ELW #855 Crown Him with Many Crowns Apostle s Creed A: As we grow together in faith, we confess our faith in the words of the Apostles Creed. C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Joys and Concerns Prayers of the Church A: With the people of God gathered here and throughout the world, we offer our prayers for the church, those in need, and all of creations. (brief silence) For Christ s church on earth and for those who proclaim the good news of your reign, that all divisions cease, let us pray C: Have mercy, O God A: For your creation in all its beauty, for water and land, plants and animals, and for all those who advocate for the just use of the earth, that all creatures enjoy life abundant, let us pray C: Have mercy, O God A: For government leaders, for those who provide justice and safety, and for those in war-torn place, that all be guided by the peace of the Lord, let us pray C: Have mercy, O God A: For the alienated, for the sick and suffering, for those living with HIV/AIDS and for those in need of reconciliation Especially, that God provide them with skilled medical practitioners and counselors, let us pray C: Have mercy, O God A: For those traveling this week, for those gathered with family and friends, for protection from inclement weather and for the body of Christ gathered here, let us pray C: Have mercy, O God P: Almighty God, you have promised to hear those who call upon your name.
