It was so fun and exciting to watch the children learn and grow in God. Fresno Grizzlies Christian Fellowship Night August 12th Have you ever heard people misuse the word, "Literally"? For example, "When people misuse the word literally, it literally makes me explode!" Well, my wife and I, literally, have a lot of fun acknowledging the misuse of that word. Recently at church, a young man was giving his testimony, and he was talking about his drug use, wild living, and just before coming to his senses, he said, "I was literally dead!" I thought to myself (in a kidding, yet critiquing fashion) "Well, you mean you felt dead, or you were physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually drained. But you weren't literally dead." (I know, it's terrible, even if it was to myself.) God didn't like it either, because one split second after I thought this to myself, God spoke to my heart, and said, "Hey, smart guy: Luke 15:24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Ephesians 2:1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. Colossians 2:13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses Literally, let me know when you want me to stop making his point. I got the message! I was literally, spiritually, dead, at one time, too. And I thanked the Lord for using this man to teach me, once again, God s Word is Life eternally and literally. I share this because Jesus quite often spoke of life and death issues, especially spiritual, and even eternal life and death issues. And quite often, God s children missed the point. But when they received His message, Jesus then, was the one who became fully satisfied. To the woman at the well, Jesus talked about giving her living water. She thought He meant physical and perpetual H2O, like tap water of today! But Jesus helped her see that He was talking about spiritual drink, that would eternally satisfy! Another instance was Jesus teaching people about true bread, after feeding 5000 people physical bread. Jesus spoke to the people about being The Bread of Life for instance. Not literal wheat bread, but literal spiritual bread, not even spiritually figurative. Without spiritual food, we will die spiritually. Scripture puts it this way: John 6:53-69 So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever. These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum. Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it? But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, Does this

4 A U G U S T I spent several hours with two of my brothers yesterday. It had been awhile since the three of us spent some time together. It was nice. One of the comments made was that this generation is different than our generation. This is so true. What happened? It was the social revolution of the late 60 s. It got us to turn away from worshipping our Lord and God, to worshipping ourselves as god. It was the beginning of the destruction of the family unit, the removal of the father as the head of the family. Do you remember: Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet, Mayberry RFD? For the most part, these were black and white TV shows from the 1950 s and 1960 s. In these shows, the father was the head of the family, and a mentor to his children. The husband and wife worked together to raise their children. It was a different time in our country. Today, we have shows like: Modern Family, Married With Children, Two and a Half Men. These TV shows show dysfunctional families. They show the men as total idiots, lacking responsibilities, self-indulgent. They do not have a positive relationship with their children. This has become accepted as normal in many homes. We know that 51% of all children worldwide do not have a relationship with their fathers. Tony Evans, in his book Kingdom Man, states that roughly 70% of all inmates in prison, both men and women, come from fatherless homes. 71% of High School dropouts come from fatherless homes. 63% of teen suicides come from fatherless homes. Do we see a trend? Satan has been doing a pretty good job of destroying the father image (hmm, God is a father image), and the family in America. So, what do we do? Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. We need to turn this trend around. We need to raise our children in Godly homes. We also need to start mentoring young men and women in the way he (they) should go In His love, Jerry OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD You don t have to wait for November or December to pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. You can pick up things right now. See a sale on tank tops at the end of the season? Buy a few and save them. Find a good deal on clearance games? Pick up a few and store them away for the next packing party. We can then add all our good deal purchases together to fill some great shoe boxes for some thankful kids around the world. Can t afford to purchase gifts to go in the boxes? Start praying now for the kids who will receive boxes. Pray that they will receive what they need, that they will feel the love of those who sent the box, that they will receive Jesus because of that box. 5 On Track cause you to stumble? What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. And He was saying, For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father. As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, You do not want to go away also, do you? Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God. People are interesting. God keeps loving us, and providing everything we need, every time, all the time, hoping that maybe some day we will return the favor and give Him what He wants, once, maybe. Scripture says it this way: Acts 17:24-28 The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being. US: God, thank you for all you have done, are doing, and will do for me. I could never repay you for all you ve done for me. But if there is ever anything you desire, you name it, whatever you want, I will do it, just ask. GOD: Okay, thanks, now that you mention it, I would still like you to stop doing X and start doing Y. US: HA!! That s a good one God, stop doing X, you created me to do X, and I love, X SO much! I just don t think I could ever STOP, maybe be less obvious, or hide it better, but stop? Nah, what else!?! Anything else, name it! Seriously, go ahead! Name it! And besides, why on EARTH would I ever do Y? Anyway. I love you Lord, take a break, let me bless you for a change. What can I do for you? GOD: Well, uh... I guess I m good. I see you are still enjoying my gifts... Uh, anything I can do for you? US: It s about time. Sheesh! Here I am wasting another perfectly good Sunday at church, and for what, a flat tire! Really Lord? As if I don t have enough troubles. SO, here goes nothing-- Lord, if you re up there and if you care about me, make Les Schwab honor the contract for their tires even though I drove them 40,000 miles longer than I was supposed to, not like it was my fault, they didn t give me a reminder, and Lord, You sure didn t help me remember, so, just work it out for free, and I ll be sure to give you all the praise, at church and on facebook, while I share how great my prayer life is, and how you always answer me... AMEN! P.S. If I end up needing to pay for the tires, I know that means You are sorry and want me to go to the lake next Sunday instead of church, as an apology. Amen. God wants us satisfied, to hunger and thirst no more, literally, spiritually, and eternally. But He won t force feed you, and you never have to drink against your will. Your willingness is all He needs. Actually, that s also all He wants. See ya Sunday!
