But I have to admit, I have watched quite a bit of this year s March Madness. I have been amazed at many of those young men s shooting ability. They are hitting 3 pointers from all over the court. Then there are those guys with the ability to block everything else out and hit their free throws with only seconds left and the game on the line. How do they do that? I heard an announcer talking about one young man who shot 300 three point shots before practice every day and then another 300 after practice. That is 600 three point shots every single day. Many do the same thing from the free throw line. So how do they do that? Training! They do it over and over and over again until it becomes second nature. They build muscle memory. They build discipline. They build confidence through repetition. The same thing is true for us spiritually. Recognizing God s Word of Truth when we are relaxed in church on Sunday morning is a lot easier than remembering and applying God s Word of Truth when the pressure is on and people are depending on us. So how do we keep ourselves from choking when we are being pressured by Satan, sin and the world? Training! We read God s Word over and over and over again. We build it into our memory. We build the spiritual discipline of prayer. We build confidence in God and His Word. Easter reminds us that our Lord Jesus Christ has already won the victory over Satan, sin and death for us. So let us hold fast to our faith. Practice it. Train ourselves in it. Be transformed by it. For we are training for something much more important than a basketball game. We are training for eternity! St. Paul tells young Timothy in I Timothy 4:8, Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 5 Page 5 School Mission & Ministry News... Registration for the school year is going very well. We have a few openings in the two-year-old, four-year-old, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. If you know of someone who is looking for a quality Christian program, please have them give me a call. Holy Cross is a Five Star center in Step Up to Quality. Parents have been thankful for the time we spend teaching their children about Jesus and His love for us. Please pray for the staff. We need the strength that comes from God to carry out this important mission. The two & three year-old children spent the month learning about God s first creations. They know that God made dark and light and that He separated them to make the first day and night. They really enjoyed exploring parts of our school and Church with the lights out. It s amazing how much fun you can have with 12 2 and 3 year old children each with a flashlight! They ended the month learning about Spring weather. They enjoyed making windy day kites and wind socks. Blowing bubbles and using straws to blow paint helped us see how the air can move things. WOW what a mighty God we have. He speaks and air and water move! (Mrs. Anne Hankins & Mrs. Demetra Pirovolos) The three & four-year-old class loved learning about animals that live on a farm. The children continued working on their number books and their letters. The children went on a nature hike with flashlights and talked about animals that hibernate in the winter and animals that are awake at night. They ended the month learning about fish & animals that live in water. The children made Trinity Shamrocks to celebrate St. Patrick s Day and learned that their faith in Jesus is more precious than gold. In Bible time, they learned that Jesus is the only real superhero. One way He proved this is by healing a blind man. We are looking forward to Spring, the warmer weather and learning more about our wonderful and loving God! (Mrs. Janet Eagon & Mrs. Patty Wallace) The four & five-year-old class began March by learning about the letter P. The children learned about Zacchaeus and how Jesus forgave him just like He forgives us. The next week was a review of the letters M-P as they connected, matched, and painted those letters. The children next learned about the most challenging of all letters, the letter Q. Next the children learned about Jesus Last Supper and how He died on the cross so that our sins can be taken away and we can have a new life in Heaven! The Bible is filled with stories about the importance of serving others, and this was made very clear as the fours learned that Jesus once sat on the floor to wash His disciple s feet. Imagine our Savior washing dirty feet! (Mrs. Teri Hockman & Mrs. Sue Owens) The Pre-Kindergarten class marched into March with a unit on Health & Safety. The children listened to their friends heartbeat with a stethoscope and learned that eating right, exercising & drinking water keeps our bodies healthy. The next unit was recycling and how to take care of the beautiful world that God had created for us. After that, they learned about birds, bugs and butterflies. As they studied the lifecycle of the butterfly, they also learned how it can tell us the story of Jesus birth, life, death and resurrection. The month ended with a celebration of Spring. (Ms. Leslie Martin & Mrs. Christina Jacobsen) The Kindergarten class has officially finished learning the sounds to all 26 letters of the alphabet. They have learned the vowels make two sounds, long and short. Now that they have learned all the single sounds, they will start with the blends and digraphs. They have finished their travels through the continental United States. They learned the Pacific coast is on the west side of America. They learned that St. Patrick s Day is named after a real priest who taught the people of Ireland about God. They also talked about how a three leaf clover can help explain the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. One God, but three parts! (Mrs. Angie Linsky) Marjorie James, Administrator
