A language that points beyond itself: Gathered Voices: To the God we serve; to the Christ we confess; to the Spirit that empowers us. One Voice: It is a language washed in the waters of baptism. The green candle on the organ burns in remembrance of the Christians in Nigeria experiencing religious persecution. Before this day takes hold of me and I am spread too thin by care, I come to you to sit quietly, for you are good to those who wait for you, to the soul that seeks your peace. This month, Eric Anspaugh and Pastor Kevin will be leading and facilitating a series on dialogue during the Sunday school hour. They will present teaching about tools and scripture references to help people engage in real give-and-take dialogue, discussion, and not just debate. Central will be hosting the Downtown Churches next Communion to Community meeting in our Fellowship Hall from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 16. A fellowship meal is followed by a brief message and small group discussion about ways to improve relationships and community across Roanoke. 6 A Luncheon of Appreciation will be held on Sunday, August 19 th directly following morning worship to say goodbye to Katinka Kalusche, our BVS worker who has blessed the church, Camp Bethel and Highland Park School with her service during the past year There will be a carry-in luncheon, with food provided by the congregation, and a program. The church will provide drinks. Please join us as Katinka will be sharing her experiences from the year through a PowerPoint presentation. This will be followed by remarks from church members and some of the staff of Highland Park School, who have also been invited. Please join us to celebrate Katinka s service to our community Central will be helping with school supplies for the first graders at Highland Park Elementary. Four meetings, in various geographical regions of the district, will be held for you and members of your congregation to share. Each of these meetings will be two-hours in length and facilitated by a member of the Compelling Vision Process Team.
