8 Dollars and Cents from SWO Treasurer Linda Kortemeyer The new fiscal year ( ) started on February 1 and the Board set aside money to make sure our expenses are paid on time during the first quarter. The Board also decided to review ideas on what we can do with an additional $3,000 we have in excess funds from last year. We will look at the suggestions and make decisions at our May Board meeting on how the money contributed should be disbursed. We will make a report and include it in the GPR for the June Gathering in Ely when we all meet and look at things the SEIA SWO has done. We will print the audit report and a summary of contributions made from the April LWR pick ups at our two locations. Thank you to all of the treasurers who so faithfully sent me the contributions from the church units and clusters. We wish you the best this year and hope to be of support to you in your dedicated service. As a special note to those who want to me, my address is changed to the following: korte4m3@gmail.com This will be a better way to contact me but the other will work too. 8

9 Piggy Bank Project SEIA SWO Stewardship Co-chair Virginia Eggers and Judy Hardesty Is your little piggy full? It is almost time to collect the money in the pink piggy. Bring your check to the June 24 & 25 Gathering at St John's Lutheran Church in Ely IA. This project will help reduce hunger and provide income for families around the world. See you at the Gathering!!! The 2016 Nominating Committee thank everyone who came forward and are willing to have their names on the ballot at our Gathering in June. Without everyone s help your SWO board could not exist. The Nominating Committee Pat Kolpin Carolyn Ahlstrom Lois O Donnell Kris Elgin 9

10 Cluster News Spring Updates Cluster 1 No Report Cluster 2 Cluster 2 met on Saturday, April 2nd, at St. Paul's of State Center with about 28 members present. Remember, all women of the ELCA are invited to attend their Cluster 2 Events during the year. One in the Spring and one in the fall. The Spring Cluster Event was held at St. Paul's, State Center with about 28 women present. The DVD entitled "Miss Representation" was shown with a light snack served by the women of St. Paul. The DVD was very informative and quite enlightening as to how women are treated in the media these days (something most of us have already noticed) and we discussed why and how this is allowed to happen and how the media shapes our thinking about ourselves and our fellow females. Others are encouraged to watch this film which is recommended by the church wide. Kathryn Bly, SWO representative, gave a very informative report of all that is happening in the SE Synod. Our love gifts were given to St. Paul's "Back Pack Program" which aids children with good snacks after school. The next Cluster Event will be held in Oct. at Elim ELCA Church, Marshalltown. Pat Kolpin, Coordinator Cluster 3 No Report Cluster 4 The Spring Gathering was hosted by the women of St. Matthew in Monticello on April 16 th, From 8:30 to 9:00 we had registration, coffee and cinnamon rolls. Pastor Amy Waechli from Faith Lutheran in Marion did biblical story telling on the book of Esther. The them was Practice Seeing God in our Daily Lives. The Book of Esther does not explicitly mention God, but think of ways Lutherans actions and how they conduct themselves speak of our faith and belief in God without specifically mentioning God. She had us reflect on how we speak the truth in love and how we make life decisions. God is omnipresent and my story is part of God's story. 16 It isn t too early to start thinking of the 2017 Triennial Gathering in Minneapolis. Your SWO Board has checked into hosting a bus trip up to the event. We would like to know if you are interested in joining us on the bus. We have contacted Tri State Travel Bus Company in Davenport and they have given us a quote for a 56 passenger bus. The cost per person would be $125.00; for now we plan on leaving on Wednesday, July 12 and return home on Monday, July 17. This amount may seem high; but consider the frustration of driving in the Minneapolis area, plus there will be a fee for parking your vehicle in the hotel lot. Besides, we get chauffeured up and back; dropped off at the hotel and have fun on the ride up and back. The trip would start in Davenport, stopping in Iowa City and Ames. Starting at our Spring 2016 Cluster meetings we will need to find out your feelings on this, as well as at our Gathering. The registration for the Triennial will open in September of 2016 and we will need to know by then if this is a go. Any questions in regards to the trip let me know-lynda Miller, my contact info is in this newsletter. The down payment has been made for the bus. At the June Gathering there will be a table with the sign up sheet for you to register for the bus. The Triennial Coordinator, Beth Meyer, will also be at the Gathering to answer any questions you may have. Start saving your money now. It will cost you approximately a $1, to go to the Triennial. You will pay for the bus, your registration, which will be around $325.00, your meals and hotel. And being so close you do save money, with no air fare. 16
