INTERIM RECTOR S REPORT MINISTRIES OF LEADERSHIP The Rev. Steve Rorke Was there ever a more wonderful Parish? The St. Andrew s congregation is comprised of warm and generous Episcopalians. For those of us fortunate enough to know the congregation as members, we could not find a more welcoming and inclusive community of believers. How fortunate for me that you called me to be your Interim Rector. This has been a year of transition for St. Andrew s. With Mother Jenny s move to Connecticut, the transition began. Since then the parish has moved ahead and made this time of transition not a time of loss but a time of renewal and preparation for the future. All the ministries of the parish have continued and have prospered. The staff has provided leadership in the areas of parish administration, music, and children and adult education. The Capital Campaign has moved ahead and is nearing its goal. And the Stewardship Campaign was a success. And perhaps most importantly for the future, the Search Committee has worked diligently to lead the parish toward hiring a new Rector. All good things. I have particularly enjoyed our combined children and adult Sunday morning services. Having our young folk lead readings and prayers, listening to the responses from them to Diane Wright s discussions, and Brandon Heishman and the choir s music have been a delight. I have also enjoyed the adult education sessions Diane and I have shared with the parish. The response and interest has shown me just how important adult and children education is in our Episcopal Churches. Of course I must say thank you to the parish for supporting me during my back surgery. This medical concern came as a surprise to me and to the parish. I was grateful that with your support I could continue on as your Interim Rector. I thank you so much for allowing me to be here despite my limited leadership abilities due to my need for surgery. I look forward to the months ahead as we work together to complete this time of transition. The future is bright for this parish. And the perfect candidate for Rector is waiting for your call. 6 VESTRY REPORT Ms. Mary Lynn Rynkiewicz, Senior Warden The Vestry had a very busy year in In February, we said goodbye to our rector, The Rev. Dr. Jenny Montgomery, welcoming four former seminarians (Sarah Colvin, Justin Ivatts, Michelle Roach, and David Rose) back to St. Andrew s to wish her well at a goodbye luncheon. The next day, we began interviews for an Interim Rector. Working with the Diocese Director of Transition Ministry, The Rev. Dr. Mary Thorpe, we met with four candidates and checked their references before ultimately selecting The Rev. Steve Rorke. During the interim time before Father Steve joined us, the Vestry played an active role in the day-to-day workings of the church. This included arranging for Supply Priests to lead our services, especially during the busy Lenten and Easter season, and overseeing the staff. The Vestry also appointed members of the Parish Search Committee, who are leading the search for our next permanent rector, and offered guidance on the compensation package for the new rector. In addition, we signed a two-year extension of our lease agreement with Encore Stage & Studio and a one-year lease of the Rectory to bring in additional income. Throughout the year, the Vestry supported critical initiatives such as the Capital Campaign. We were delighted by the very generous response by St. Andrew s members in supporting the campaign, as well as pledges for In looking back, we want to thank all members of St. Andrew s for their continued support, leadership, and faithfulness during this time of transition. We are blessed to have so many people willing to share their gifts of ministry to ensure we are a welcoming, growing, and caring Episcopal Church, filled with joyous hearts and eager to bring Christ s love to the world. Dave Smith PARISH SEARCH COMMITTEE St. Andrew s search committee was formed in late June and began meeting in early July. Our committee has been mentored by the Diocesan Transition Minister, Reverend Mary Thorpe. We began by studying the parish to determine where we've been, where we are now, and where we want to go next. To do this, we studied church historical records, demographic surveys of the local area, and created a parish survey deployed in September. After collating the survey, we held focus groups in October. The result of this body of work was used to create our Community Ministry Portfolio that provides a comprehensive description of our Parish along with a summary of skills and characteristics the parish is most interested in for our next Rector. The Portfolio was posted on the National Episcopal database to solicit interested applicants in early December. Applications are being received and will be accepted until February Dave Smith is serving as the Chair of the committee and other committee members include Jen Gowetski, Craig Lawrence, David Roan, Mark Seip, and Susan Thomas. 6 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

PARISH OFFICE Ms. Susan Lobachyov This year of transition has brought many changes and adjustments for the parish office. Managing the daily tasks of the church and ensuring a relatively smooth transition from a permanent rector to various supply clergy to an interim rector was a major responsibility. The office provides a welcoming, inviting space for parishioners and others who visit or call the church. Each week communications to the parish are produced including the Sunday bulletin, the Sunday announcement sheet, Shining the Light e-news and correspondence. Other tasks include supporting mailings for stewardship and ministry teams, and scheduling. Scheduling the use of the building space is time-consuming with the number of groups who love to use the rooms for their various functions. In addition to the parish office, the business office requires much of my time. Tasks include entering and posting donations/income, maintaining bill payments, payroll, reimbursements and reporting. It is truly a blessing to work in such a wonderful environment supported by faithful, caring parishioners, Vestry and staff. COMMUNICATIONS Ms. Claire Jones 2017 marked a number of major milestones for St. Andrew s on the communications front. Parishioner Mark Seip completed a comprehensive strategic communications plan as his final project for the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies Public Relations/Corporate Communications program. The finished product, which was reviewed in depth with the Vestry, provided excellent recommendations, a road map and communications strategies and tactics for the church's consideration. Given the search for a new rector, the need for a parish profile and the capital campaign, it was decided that an update of the church's website was the first order of business. Thanks to a recommendation from Diane Wright, we secured a local Web developer, who created a wonderful new site for the church with input and guidance from Mark Seip and Claire Jones. The result is a wonderful, welcoming Web presence that reflects the church's personality, refined messaging and the color palette of the beautiful church banner displayed on our altar. Claire Jones also retained a photographer to capture fresh imagery of the congregation to ensure the visuals had a contemporary look and feel. Next steps are to update the church brochure, pew cards and other materials. We will also refine the website, creating new elements like a parish profile video. In addition, we continue our Facebook ministry and hope to launch Instagram in Needless to say, there is a lot to do in the coming year, and it s all very exciting! If you have communications skills, such as graphic design, photography and video know-how, website development or public relations experience, don t be shy. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Please contact Claire Jones at gwatkojones@gmail.com. Annual Report

MUSIC MINISTRIES OF WORSHIP Mr. Brandon Heishman Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 Music has an important role in the life of the church by enriching the liturgy with thoughtprovoking poetry and inspiring sounds. It also strengthens us in our relationship with God as we lift our voices together in his praise. We have had some great musical experiences at St. Andrew s this past year. Visiting choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists, as well as beautiful music presented by our adult and children s choirs. And of course, Jammin with Brandon! One of the things I most appreciate about St. Andrew s is how active we are as a community. In congregational song, jam sessions and caroling in the community, making music together is a vital part of who we are as a parish. I am also thankful for the hours of dedication our adult choir spends preparing and presenting a variety of music for our worship. This year we shared spirituals, hymn arrangements, and a mix of traditional and contemporary anthems. We also presented a joint concert with the Raleigh Boychoir in June, and some members took part in two collaborative Evensongs with Church of the Holy Cross in Dunn Loring. The children s choir is another important element of our music ministry, and I am delighted to see them growing into strong and enthusiastic singers. Many thanks to everyone for their continued involvement in St. Andrew s music ministry. Here s to a joyful and song-filled new year! ALTAR GUILD Ms. Ronnie Doherty During 2017, the Altar Guild continued its ministry of altar preparation for every regularly scheduled service, creation of flower arrangements and care of altar linens, vessels and clergy vestments. Guild members also took on extra duties, including preparation and clean-up, for the special times of the liturgical year, such as St. Andrew s Day, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost. Other services, such as the Bishop s visit and the Annual Meeting Service, also required the efforts of the Altar Guild. The Guild also prepared for and, on many occasions, participated in several baptisms and funerals, all of which were held at St. Andrew s. All of these labors of love are performed by a group of 16 dedicated and hard-working members: Tierney Bates, Janey Cartmell, Ronnie Doherty, Joyce Fall, Joan Fern, Leslie Harrington, Debbie Healy, Marc Hone, Laura Ingles, Carol Kiranbay, Joan Lawrence, Leida Nemir, Lloyd Starns, Ana White and Karen White. Without their commitment and perseverance, it would not be possible to perform all the tasks necessary to preserve the liturgical heritage of St. Andrew s. We welcome any member (male or female) of St. Andrew s who would like to be a part of this vital but behind-the-scenes ministry. There are many varied tasks and there is a place for everyone s talent. Please contact me or any other member of the Altar Guild for more information. LAY WORSHIP MINISTRIES Ms. Ana White The year 2017 has been one of little change for the Lay Worship Ministries. Our 8:00 a.m. service is still greatly understaffed. We did have several new volunteers for the 10:00 a.m. service, which has made scheduling much easier. If we are planning on continuing with two regular services at St. Andrew s, then we desperately need more volunteers for the 8:00 a.m. service. 8 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

FAMILY MINISTRY MINISTRIES OF FORMATION Ms. Diane Wright, Coordinator for Family Ministry 2017 has been an active and busy year for Family Ministry! As expected, the focal point is the Family Service of the Word on Sunday mornings with expanded initiatives in formation and outreach. Early in the year, a Family Ministry Advisory Council was formed for support and feedback to the Coordinator for Family Ministry a most welcome brain trust! Family Service of the Word During the Choral Eucharist, St. Andrew s offers a Family Service of the Word in the Chapel led by a worship leader (usually Diane), a song leader (one of 5 parishioners) and a pianist, Aubrey Virakone. Children also lead as crucifers, acolytes and ushers, and youth participate as readers and prayer leaders. During worship, the congregation sings child-friendly hymns, hears a story/homily usually focused on the Gospel for the day and prays with the children offering their prayers of thanksgiving and concern. The participants in the Family Service rejoin the congregation in the sanctuary at the Peace so all may partake in Holy Communion together. Attendance this year has fluctuated from a low of 10 on one summer Sunday to a high of about 60 on Easter. Numbers have been a bit lower this fall than last year. Also, during 2017, St. Andrew s has held three intergenerational Sunday services, in which families stayed in the sanctuary and elements of the Family Service were incorporated into the choral worship service. These occurred for Mother Jenny s last Sunday in February, the Community Picnic Sunday and St. Andrew s Day, and have been well received. In addition to these Sunday services, St. Andrew s offers intergenerational services for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. Formation for Children With Fr. Steve s arrival, St. Andrew s has offered monthly Christian Education for All after the Choral and Family Worship Service. Participants begin together and then Diane takes youth and children to the Chapel and Fr. Steve stays with the adults. Some of the themes explored include: Treasure Hunt Sunday (in which the adults explored the Book of Common Prayer while the children hunted for symbols and items in the sanctuary); Three in One (a study of the Trinity); the Saints; and Thankfulness and Communion. Also, during the Family Service of the Word, the children focused on a different line of the Lord s Prayer each Sunday during the Fall as a refresher. In support of Faith@Home initiatives, families received: Lenten resources including Holy Week in a Box for use during Spring Break; Summer Son/Sun Buckets with prayer suggestions and fun activities; and Advent wreath prayers and meditations. Additional resources for continuing the Sunday morning conversations at home are included in the Shining the Light newsletter and other reminders and resources are distributed via periodic s to families. Outreach Giving back to others is a principal theme in the Family Service and children have been invited to participate in preparing sandwiches for ASPAN, working the Plot Against Hunger garden, pledging of their time and talents during the stewardship campaign, sending love notes to hurricane victims in the Hurricane of Love, and donating their Halloween candy to those serving overseas through Operation Gratitude. Families also participate in parish-wide outreach such as the Arlington Partners for Affordable Housing s Backpack Program. Fellowship and Fun Forming community is a vital part of a healthy congregation and at St. Andrew s there are many opportunities for families to build relationships with each other and with the congregation as a whole. This year, most events have been all parish but there was a Family Fun Night geared just towards families. Annual Report

Youth The St. Andrew s Youth group (SAY) had a successful inaugural year with a variety of gatherings that included formation (education), outreach, fellowship, food and fun! Some of the activities include: snow tubing at Whitetail, Winter Olympics that included silly challenges as well as educational ones, a Lent Jeopardy program, Real News, Fake News: Faith and Resurrection, a Pentecost Birthday Bash, an end-of-school pool party at Donaldson Run, a SAY table at the St. Andrew s Day brunch, sorting food at AFAC, preparing sandwiches for ASPAN, and the everpopular Christmas cookie decorating followed by caroling. There are about 6 youth that regularly participate in SAY events (as their schedules permit) and sometimes friends join us as well. Four parishioners serve as adult sponsors and assist with planning and executing of events. They are key to the success of SAY! In addition to SAY events, youth have taken an active role in intergenerational services as readers, Magi for Epiphany and Advent Wreath lighters and prayer leaders. Confirmation Preparation In preparation for the Bishop s visit in February 2018, St. Andrew s partnered with St. George s to offer confirmation preparation classes for youth. Weekly classes started in November led by Diane and the Associate Rector of St. George s. Nine youth from three parishes are participating in this regional class, three from St. Andrew s. Additional Activities In addition to the activities mentioned above, Family Ministry sponsored a Lenten book study for parents based on the booklet Parenting: A Sacred Path; the Adventures of BJ (though which all parishioners where invited to take BJ (aka Bendable Jesus ) on their summer adventures and send in photos we received over 60 photos of BJ having fun); and Soul Sisters (a monthly women s evening fellowship offering). St. Andrew s is blessed with committed, joyful parishioners and faithful leadership. I personally am thrilled to be serving as Coordinator for Family Ministry in such a vibrant church. I look forward to working together as St. Andrew s continues to shine its light in the community. 10 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

GLORIOUS COMPANIONS Ms. Carol Kiranbay The Glorious Companions, a group of 10 women, continue to meet on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the lounge for fellowship and spiritual growth. We choose our study books by consensus. All are welcome, and we do NOT frown upon intermittent attendance! Our upcoming book is The Sacred Meal by Nora Gallagher, which is part of The Ancient Practices Series dealing with the Eucharist. Books we read in 2017 included: Radical Spirit: 12 Ways to Live A Free and Authentic Life Flames of Rome: A Novel Conversations with Scripture: The Gospel of Luke Trudy Koczyk, our eldest member, celebrated her 95th birthday in September. Trudy no longer attends our meetings, but she faithfully reads each study book at home. Go Trudy! ADULT FORMATION The Rev. Steve Rorke St. Andrew s Coordinator for Family Ministry Diane Wright and I have held regular, on-going Christian education forums for youth and adults during the last six months. The forums have included education on the Prayer Book, the Eucharist, and the Trinity. Diane has provided education in these areas to youth while I have met with adults. These forums have been held on Sunday mornings. The forums will continue throughout the interim period. In addition, I have led a series on the faith and history of the Episcopal Church. The series has served the dual purpose of introducing attendees to the Episcopal Faith and preparing adults for confirmation. Diane has led confirmation classes for youth in collaboration with St. George s and Trinity Episcopal parishes. This exciting collaboration has served to introduce St. Andrew s youth to youth from other parishes and to engage our neighbor parishes in projects designed to expand our resources and utilize region-wide educational resources. 13 OUTREACH PROJECTS Ms. Jennifer Gowetski ANGEL TREE PROGRAM: For a sixth year, St. Andrew s participated in the Salvation Army s Angel Tree program. The purpose of the program is to provide new clothing, shoes and toys for children of the neediest families designated by the Salvation Army in the Arlington, Virginia area to receive Christmas assistance. We adopted 45 angels this year and filled our chapel with new toys and clothes, which were delivered to our angels at the beginning of December. (Chair: Jennifer Gowetski) ARLINGTON PARTNERSHIP FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING (APAH): This is the fifth year that St. Andrew s has partnered with the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing s Backpack Program to provide backpacks and school supplies to the children of their residents. This year, we provided over 20 backpacks stuffed with school supplies for middle school and high school students. (Chair: Jennifer Gowetski) ASPAN s BAGGED MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS: In 2017, we gathered in the St. Andrew s kitchen about once a month to assemble 50 meals in support of ASPAN (Arlington Street Peoples Assistance Network). While our numbers fluctuated between 4 and 15 participants each month, we always enjoyed spreading the peanut butter and filling the sandwich bags as we gave thanks for all of the blessings afforded to us. All ages are welcome and it is always a great teaching moment for our young people. We would like to thank the Smith family (Dave, Doris, and Diana) for picking up most of the food with which we fill each bag; AFAC (Arlington Food Assistance Center) for donating the bread; and each and every person who has provided their time to assemble sandwiches, fill bags, organize pint-sized volunteers, and deliver the meals to the park on N. Oakland Street where the homeless gather. We are looking forward to more afternoons of fellowship and service in 2018, and would welcome newcomers to our program! (Chair: Marcela Scott). HAITI OUTREACH: In 2018, we ll be entering our sixth year of support for St. Peter s School in Berault, Haiti. Our partnership with the school and our partner priest, the Rev. Frederic Menelas, has been key in providing an education for students in this impoverished and remote area of Haiti. Our 2017 contribution of $11,000 was used for the school lunch program, teacher salaries, and emergency repairs to the school roof. We hope to directly introduce more St. Andrew s parishioners to the blessings of this outreach program through a mission trip some time in MEALS ON WHEELS: St. Andrew s assists people in need beyond our parish by volunteering through Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Arlington. This service allows people unable to cook/shop for themselves to maintain a nourished life with independence and dignity. It also provides a check-in on those who live alone as any unanswered delivery is reported. Each Monday through Friday, a commercial kitchen prepares and packages a hot meal and a cold meal for each client, and then trucks them to the First Presbyterian Church (Ballston area). Volunteers pick up the meals and deliver them to homebound individuals. There are approximately fifteen routes across Arlington, each serving 7 12 clients. St. Andrew's volunteers include Ken and Tierney Bates, Janey Cartmell, Leida Nemir, Jane Massant, Libby Schollaert, Peter Wehmann, and former parishioner Karen Auchter. SCHOLARSHIPS: St. Andrew s awards scholarships for post-secondary education by The Endowment for Outreach and Human Needs. Students graduating from high school and going on to post-secondary education are eligible, as are older students currently enrolled. This year the Endowment for Outreach and Human Needs awarded scholarships totaling $1,250, which went to two students in our congregation. Annual Report

WELCOME AND FELLOWSHIP MINISTRIES OF PARISH LIFE Ms. Jean Lynn Members of the Committee are Jean Lynn Chairperson; Carol Kiranbay, Debbie Green, Karen White, Craig Lawrence, Corttney Roan, Jonathan White, Peter Wehmann; Vestry Liaison Libby Schollaert. The Welcome & Fellowship Committee met approximately 3 times during Most of our communication was via for the different events. The committee hosted the following events: Farewell Luncheon for Mother Jenny February 26 St. Andrew s Players Reception March 25 Easter Sunday Reception & Egg Hunt April 16 Parish Picnic September 17 St. Andrew s Reception November 19 ST. ANDREW S PLAYERS Ms. Jane Massant After the success of the 2016 fundraiser, Broadway Then and When, the St. Andrew s Players assembled musical theater enthusiasts of all ages to put on another musical revue. On March 25, 2017, approximately 120 people took their places in a transformed Undercroft for Broadway Meets Little Italy. A fantastic meal of lasagnas and Italian desserts was prepared and served by volunteers. The children who performed had an especially good time with numbers from Matilda and You re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Solos, duets, and group numbers from L il Abner, South Pacific, Wicked, and Annie Get Your Gun rounded out the show. The show was conceived and directed by Jane Massant and choreographed by Sarah Edwards. Brandon Heishman provided musical direction and accompaniment. Claire Jones served as Master of Ceremonies, Joan Lawrence did costumes, Steve Pearson and John Craig designed and ran the lighting and sound, Ted Edwards helped restore the set, and Karen Colmie and Jean Rose Louppe ran things backstage. Helen and Mike Ely sold tickets to the Pot of Gold 50/50 raffle. All proceeds from that went to St. Peter s School in Haiti. Thanks to two years of successful fundraisers, the St. Andrew s Players were well positioned to consider taking on another large-cast musical for the coming spring. Preparations began over the summer for identifying an appropriate work where all of those in the parish interested in participating could do so. The final selection, Anne of Green Gables by Donald Harron and Norman Campbell, is one we hope will delight audiences of all ages. It is scheduled to begin rehearsals on January 7 with performances set for the first two weekends in May. An enthusiastic cast of 15 youth and 13 adults (a few more needed) have scripts and music in hand. Our production staff closely resembles that of last year s Revue with more bodies needed to handle the behind-the-scenes jobs. We also hope to carry on our tradition of a St. Patrick s Day dinner fundraiser (on St. Patrick s Day!) and Dinner Theater (May 12). We will need parish-wide support to make this 46th year of the St. Andrew s Players a strong one. Thanks to the many people who have over the past years worked hard to get us to this point. POETRY FEST Ms. Helen Ely St. Andrew's eighth annual Midsummer Poetry Fest took place on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the lounge. This year's theme was music: poetry about music and/or the music of poetry. Seventeen readers gathered to share poems meaningful to them, either their own work or published poetry. A few others came just to listen. We were joined by a number of guests from outside the parish including former adjunct priest Al Moss and his son Daniel. After the reading we enjoyed some light refreshments and a time of fellowship. 16 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

SHRINE MONT Ms. Mary Lynn Rynkiewicz St. Andrew s enjoyed another wonderful weekend on the mountain in 2017! Our time together included a fun and enriching Saturday morning session on transformation led by Diane and Father Steve. We looked at transformation in objects (such as Silly Putty that changes colors), in nature and our surroundings, and in ourselves. It was a great way to reflect on the transformation St. Andrew s is going through during this interim time. Although our group was a bit smaller than in years past, we welcomed several first-timers and tried some new activities. Father Steve, Diane, and our brave youth zoomed down a mountain on a zip line at the nearby Bryce Resort. And while a storm Saturday night caused us to forego a campfire, we enjoyed a cold s mores bar and gave thanks for the cooler weather. We ended our weekend with worship led by Father Steve at the Shrine. Shrine Mont is truly a special place that offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parishioners, with yourself, and most importantly with God. Interested in joining us in 2018? We ll be heading there July Stay tuned for more information! CONGREGATIONAL CARE Ms. Priscilla Carey Our work continues to demonstrate that St. Andrew s is a caring community. We work beyond the confines of a committee structure and lead by example as we identify a need and attempt to meet that need. A large part of what we attempt to do is communicate when something has happened to a parishioner. This communication is so important in a caring community. In 2017 we provided meals to parishioners following surgery, sent cards at times of need, and provided transportation to doctor s appointments when that was able to be scheduled. The entire congregation has the opportunity to participate when a need is identified and participate we did! With our committee funding, we also support a flower ministry sending special greetings from the St. Andrew s family. ST. ANNE S GUILD Ms. Janey Cartmell St. Anne s Guild, an established women s group of over 50 years, meets quarterly in the lounge for Christian fellowship and service. ALL are welcome to attend. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday in March, June, and September, and the first Tuesday in December. Meetings comprise of a short business discussion, lunch and a program programs: Sara Strehle Duke, Executive Director of Encore Stage and Studio, presented an overview of Theatre by Kids for Kids! and spoke of Encore s vision and values. Diane Wright shared her experiences as a delegate representing the Episcopal Church at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Jim Williams, Buildings and Grounds Chair, spoke about the many diverse and wide-ranging tasks involved in this very important ministry. Jennifer Bartlett in the persona of Hypatia of Alexandra, a 4th-century female astronomer, gave a presentation on the Star of Bethlehem. Voluntary contributions provide the means for inreach and outreach. St. Anne s Guild 2017 outreach support included monetary support to the Sisters of St. Margaret in Haiti and Doorways for Women and Families in Arlington. Members include Joyce Fall (chair), Janey Cartmell (secy/treas), June Dudley, Ruth Duvall, Joan Fern, Heather Fitzgerald, Debbie Green, Carol Kiranbay, Trudy Koczyk, Leida Nemir, Lloyd Starns, and Karen White. 18 FINANCE COMMITTEE MINISTRIES OF FINANCE Mr. Rob McDonald St. Andrew s Finance Committee is chaired by Rob McDonald. Members include our Treasurer Dana Madsen, Bob Len, and John Bartlett. The Finance Committee is required by the Canons of the National Church and the Diocese to advise the Rector, the Vestry, and the Treasurer on financial matters. We view this charge to the committee as involving several major responsibilities including advising the Vestry on our church s most important financial issues, advising the Treasurer and overseeing St. Andrew s finances and annual budgetary process, and engaging in finance-related projects at the request of the Vestry was an especially notable year for St. Andrew s, the Finance Committee, and the church s financial health. Several financial initiatives have improved St. Andrew s financial position marked improved communication with the congregation, and the Finance Committee sought to continue this trend in 2017 by working more closely with the Vestry to communicate the 2017 intrayear financial position more frequently and through new means. Dana Madsen continued his great work as St. Andrew s Treasurer in 2017, resulting in continued improved monthly oversight of St. Andrew s finance statements and financial operations. Other 2017 initiatives and priorities for the St. Andrew s Finance Committee include: Completion during the Fall of 2017 of a successful 2018 budgetary process and Stewardship campaign. Transition from supporting the St. Andrew s Sacred Spaces initiative in 2016 to supporting the Capital Campaign Team as the Capital Campaign effort took shape. The Finance Committee will continue to support the Capital Campaign with special projects, research, and financial counsel as needed. The Finance Committee also supports the Parish Search Committee as St. Andrew s moves forward with selection of a permanent rector; assisting with feedback on such topics as budgetary impact of a new rector s compensation. Working more closely with the Buildings and Grounds Committee to identify long-term strategy needs of the St. Andrew s campus, apart from the Capital Campaign, and proactively allocating annual reserves to meet these needs. Initiated in 2016, annual reserves have continued to be put aside in 2017 in anticipation of capital funding needs for as many as 15 years into our future. Recommendation to Vestry of prudent allocation of bequests for long-term needs of St. Andrew s. Reserves for other purposes have now been incorporated into the annual budgetary process. Continued management of St. Andrew s invested assets and consideration of matching St. Andrew s expected long-term needs with its invested assets. Identification of the need for a Deputy Treasurer for continuity and ultimate succession purposes. Other special projects and financial research conducted in 2017 at the request of the Vestry. Thanks to all the St. Andrew s Finance Committee members and to the 2017 Vestry liaison Tom Cassidy. Also, a special thanks to Janey Cartmell, who provides invaluable weekly and daily financial operations support to St. Andrew s. A 2017 Summary of our financial performance will be forthcoming and presented at a Budget & Bagels session in mid-february St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

STEWARDSHIP ALL HEARTS ARE OPEN FOR ST. ANDREW S Ms. Anne Dailey and Ms. Jen Madsen St. Andrew s parishioners opened their hearts as part of our stewardship efforts in the fall. Following the Diocese of Virginia s All Hearts are Open theme for annual giving, St. Andrew s Stewardship Team organized a campaign emphasizing support for the church s day-to-day operations, separate from the Capital Campaign. On October 22, we announced the campaign during services, with letters going out to parishioners that week. The team then put the fun in fundraising by sponsoring a Halloween-themed coffee hour on October 29, with a costume parade and treats for kids of all ages. The campaign concluded at the St. Andrew s Day celebration on November 19, and the pledge cards were gathered and blessed during the special service. Throughout the campaign, the Vestry provided critical support, including pledging early, providing powerful testimonials during the Sunday services about the importance of pledging, and sending handwritten thank you notes to all who made pledges for Thanks to everyone whose generosity helped St. Andrew s make our church, our community, and our world a more joyous, growing, inviting, and caring place in 2017! Ms. Joy Oakes COUNTERS Do you have an hour or so each month to help provide an essential service for our St. Andrew s community? Consider joining the counters ministry. As a bonus, you will get to know an interesting cohort of brother and sister parishioners. No trigonometry or calculus required! Our 2017 counters team included Jane Bartlett, John Bartlett, Janey Cartmell, Warren Duvall, Ted Edwards, Joyce Fall, Joan Fern, Bob Len, Warren Marton, Joy Oakes, Steve Pearson, and Lloyd Starns. 21 MEMORIALS COMMITTEE Ms. Lloyd Starns The purpose of the committee is to assist parish members and others who wish to make a memorial or celebratory contribution to St. Andrew s, and to administer such funds. Membership for 2017 included Ruth Duvall, Carol Kiranbay, Trudy Koczyk and Warren Marton. The past year has been a quiet one for the committee as no new donations of any kind were made to the Memorials Fund and no specific project requests were brought to the attention of members. As of November 30, 2017, the Memorials Fund continued to total $5,428, of which $4,000 is available for future projects, and $1,428 is reserved for the Memorial Garden. As always, committee members welcome suggestions from parishioners for new ways to support the life and ministry of St. Andrew s, as well as any volunteers who wish to join us. CHRISTMAS TREE SALES Mr. Bob Len We had a successful tree-selling season this year with only nine trees left unsold out of 200. As always, it is good to see friends from our local community who we often only see once a year when they come to get our trees. One of the more rewarding aspects of being a part of this ministry is the widespread support from the congregation and the way the group comes together to help out over those two weekends. This year, more than 14 of your fellow parishioners were involved on the two weekends when we sold trees. While the sales of Christmas trees each winter raises some funds for our church, this ministry also demonstrates the community and comradery at St. Andrew s and our relationship with the broader neighborhood community. 22 BUILDINGS & GROUNDS MINISTRIES OF PHYSICAL SPACES Mr. James Williams Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Reviewing the files for 2017 shows the breadth and depth of B&G s role on the St. Andrew s campus. We are responsible for 4.5 acres of grounds, the Church building, the Rectory and its garage, and the 2310 house. Limited resources and the nature of maintenance usually mean that B&G reacts to events. For example, a tree falls and we have our grounds crew haul it away; an electrical switch fails and we have our master electrician replace it; Nave heating units fail and we summon Carrier to tweak their Air Handler Unit. Even so, we try to be proactive. Sometimes we succeed. In 2017 Jim Williams continued to chair B&G. He was supported by able colleagues whose wisdom and energy made B&G better. The B&G Deputy Chair, Richard Knight, handled Rectory issues and led the team in Jim s absence. Jim cleverly timed some absences to duck heavy lifting that fell to Richard. Mary Youman did a splendid job as Vestry Liaison Officer, carrying B&G inputs to the Vestry and giving us a prompt readout. Harry Amos, Joan Lawrence, Sarah Louppe Petcher [former Vestry Liaison Officer], and Dave Smith drew on their long association with St. Andrew s to add valuable perspective to our work. Now and then parishioners showed interest in what B&G does. We hope that some of them will come to a meeting, even join our ranks, this year. Will you, dear reader, be among them? On the Saturday just before the Vestry s monthly meeting, B&G gathers at 9:00 a.m. in the Lounge to work through an agenda that is prepared and distributed by Jim. The electronic calendar shows whether it is the first or second Saturday of the month. We have stimulating discussion, fresh coffee, and pastries from Heidelberg Bakery. After greetings, tucking into refreshments, hearing a short invocation, and pondering our motto [noted above], we palaver for 60 minutes. B&G keeps a current list of professionals for roofing, chimney, electrical, plumbing, tree grooming and removal, and other needs. Our handyman, Bruce Buchanan, is a regular visitor to this campus. In 2017 his work included a major upgrade of the bar bumpout in the Undercroft, and putting sliders on the pews down there, to make it easier to move them for large events. B&G spent a lot of time liaising with major vendors such as Carrier [heating and cooling systems], Spring Cleaning & Maintenance = SCM [cleaning service], and Greenview Landscaping [grounds maintenance and snow removal]. In 2017 we managed two rental properties: the Rectory and the 2310 house. GROUNDS Our sprinkler system, installed on consecrated ground around the Church in January 2016, worked without a hitch. It comes back on line in late spring. Affordable Lawn Sprinklers & Outdoor Lighting, which installed this system, gave us a proposal to cover the rest of the campus except for the borderlands. At close to $ 20,000.00, that proposal would require an angel. Ever hopeful, B&G is looking for one. Large trees pose a constant challenge. Our campus has lost several in recent years notably the large sugar maple, for years a splendid climbing tree, at the foot of the 2310 driveway and others are nearing the end of their lifespan. In 2017 B&G worked closely with neighbors on Lorcom Lane to trim a red oak that towers over our side parking lot; and on Military Road, to remove a locust tree that had crashed onto the Apple Orchard in a windstorm. We also hired Merrifield Gardens to trim the wall of evergreens behind the Rectory, in an effort to ensure that those trees stand tall and shield the Rectory for years to come. Much of our campus is covered in asphalt. Hordes of vehicles gave those surfaces a workout in For that reason B&G began last fall discussion with Chamberlain Contractors of Maryland, which has maintained our asphalt for more than a decade. We are looking at affordable ways to stretch the lifespan of this asphalt, mainly by patching and re-sealing old surfaces, in order to gain time to 22 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

escrow funds for a more substantial replacement in the next decade. Superficial repairs would cost some $14,000.00; a major resurfacing, depending on area, would cost at least $ 80, Still led by Curtis Powers, Greenview Landscaping has groomed the grounds of St. Andrew s for nearly 50 years. In 2017, Greenview, as always, kept us looking tip-top. Typical was its December work to get things ready for the holiday season. The campus never looked better. Our threeyear contract with Greenview comes up for renewal in late Projects for the New Year include replenishing white mulch in the Playground, removing broken and diseased trees in the borderlands, and planting an 11th maple in the line that fronts the Playground and the Rectory. The M&R Accounts can cover these tasks. B&G gave occasional support to the Apple Orchard and Vegetable Garden, for which other groups led by Dave Smith are responsible. For the Apple Orchard our main task was to ensure that Greenview crews could mow around deer fences made of fishing line. We also had Greenview remove the large locust tree that had fallen [see above], fortunately with minimal damage to the apple trees. For the Vegetable Garden we liaised with Greenview on operation of the two hydrants that water the plants, ordered mulch deliveries from the County, and had a meter installed in the basement of the 2310 house to facilitate record-keeping for consumption by the Garden and the tenants HOUSE A Craftsman-style wooden structure that may date from the 1920 s, the 2310 house is our oldest building and the one most prone to repairs. Over nine decades it has not always been well maintained. Some 15 years ago St. Andrew s did an internal upgrade which addressed the major problems. A few years later we installed Hardie Plank siding on the rear and one side, replaced the small flat roof above the library, and painted the whole exterior, including the porch. In recent years St. Andrew s has rented this house to persons affiliated with Cherrydale Baptist, our neighbor church just across Military Road. The current tenants are an Associate Pastor at Cherrydale Baptist, his wife, and two small children. Upgrades in 2017 included installation of signs to protect 2310 s two reserved parking slots near the mailbox; a new washing machine; a new water diverter for the upstairs shower stall; six new smoke detectors to replace units that in some cases were 16 [!] years old; and a new air conditioning system [3-ton condenser, 3-ton fancoil unit, ductwork for the master bedroom]. With Vestry permission, the last job was financed by the Donnelly Building Fund. We deferred recommended enhancements to the Crown boiler that runs the legacy radiator system of the house. The biggest pending project at the 2310 house is replacement of its roof, which is nearly 30 years old. With so many eaves and gables, this roof will cost more to replace than the Rectory roof. In addition, 2310 s legacy roof has two or more layers of shingles that must be removed. It is unclear how many old underlayment boards will have to be replaced. This project will cost at least $15, To put off that event, B&G each year has its roofing expert inspect and patch, and where needed install new asphalt shingles. We have told the Vestry that the 2310 house will need a new roof in the next few years. Another issue for early attention is water seepage into the large unfinished basement. Rainfall and snowmelt enter via the cove joints on two sides of the house, and the crawl space below the kitchen. Our hope is that, at the walls that face the Vegetable Garden and Vacation Lane, Greenview can reslope the lawn to divert water from the foundation, and enlarge the two downspouts and underground pipes that move runoff toward the borderlands. On the carport side the concrete driveway is badly cracked. Sealing that source of water intrusion will be expensive. The M&A Account can cover the projected Greenview work. The driveway repairs will require new funding. RECTORY Some 10 years ago, in the long interregnum when St. Andrew s had no permanent Rector, Jim Annual Report

presided over a major upgrade of the Rectory. For the first time ever, the Rectory is now rented on a one-year contract to a retired military family, in order to bridge the time between departure of our old Rector and arrival of our new one. In the four months between the departure of Mother Jenny in March and the arrival of these tenants in July, B&G had important work done. Our painter, Manuel Membreno, enhanced the family room in the basement by finishing drywall, closing gaps in the ceiling, and painting the stairwell paneling and concrete floors. Our electrician, Chris Brown, improved faceplates and ceiling lights in the basement. [In December Chris did emergency repairs on a dimmer switch in the dining room.] Our handyman, Bruce Buchanan, replaced four windowwell covers and installed new smoke and CO detectors on the top floors. Our grounds crew, Greenview Landscaping, cleared the shrub and flower beds, and flushed out the three underground drain pipes that move water away from the foundation toward the 2310 driveway. [Last month Greenview put an in-ground hard plastic box at the terminus of each pipe.] Rooftop Chimney Sweeps cleaned, repaired, and sealed the upper brickwork of the chimney, and pulled a liner for the furnace flue. With Vestry permission, the Rooftop work was financed by the Donnelly Building Fund. Our Rectory is basically in good shape. Before our new Rector arrives, however, B&G wants the Vestry to consider one other project: an upgrade of the masonry of the front stoop, the stone walkway, and the concrete staircase. That job would cost some $8, B&G has not budgeted for this work, so a draw on the Donnelly Building Fund or the largesse of an angel would be needed. CHURCH BUILDING SCM, our cleaning company, did an excellent job in , its first two years with us. As a result, the Vestry approved an SCM request for a new contract that raises the annual fee by $ Our SCM custodian, Carmen, is now our kitchen czarina, authorized to toss old food from the refrigerators before it starts to rot. SCM has been extremely responsive to requests for special attention to certain areas e.g., Lounge, bathrooms to get them ready for major events or holidays. Barbara Roche, co-owner of SCM, cleaned, organized, and labeled our kitchen and kitchenette. She also presided over stripping and waxing the floor tiles in the kitchen, and in December the chancel surfaces in the Nave. The results are impressive. Our relationship with Carrier added a contract to do annual maintenance on our 15 legacy fancoil units [FCU s] and 8 legacy convection units [CVU s]. The FCU s are on all three floors and date from the major expansion of St. Andrew s in the early 1960 s. The CVU s, located in the ceilings of the eight former classrooms of the Renehan Center, date from modularization of the Renehan Center in Even at this late date, regular maintenance can extend the life of legacy units and defer the need to buy expensive new ones. St. Andrew s is fortunate to have redundant air-handling capability in the Nave and Undercroft. Even with several units out of commission, the quality of conditioned air in those spaces is good. High visibility ensured that the kitchen remained a major B&G focus. We had Manuel Membreno, our painter, stain the cabinets on the long wall, clean and paint the cabinetry of both islands, and sand and seal the butcher block. Our handyman replaced loose floor tiles, greased the casement window tracks, and installed smoke detectors on the ground level. Not every job was smooth sailing, however. One Friday evening last fall a gas leak was reported near the ancient Vulcan stove. Late that night Washington Gas turned off the gas to the whole church; it took some three days to get it turned back on. We then had the stove examined from stem to stern. Conclusion: the leak probably occurred when one of the pilot lights blew out. B&G urges everyone to report at once any whiff of gas in the kitchen area. The Undercroft was in demand at least as much as the kitchen. Potomac Valley Watercolorists [PVW], a major user of this space, donated a new trolley for the stackable chairs and a new dolly for the collapsible rectangular tables. Those devices make it much easier for all groups using the 24 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

Undercroft to do setup and takedown. In addition, a PVW stalwart volunteered to help find a cheap way to embed the large black-and-white photographs of St. Andrew s, which were taken and donated by Marcela Scott a few years ago, in plastic sheeting that can be securely anchored to the rolling dividers. That sheeting will arrest wear-and-tear on the photographs. Last year s expansion and two-year extension of the contract with Encore Stage & Studio allowed our thespian tenants to use the whole Renehan Center plus on an ad hoc basis other parts of the Church. Those changes put pressure on remaining storage space, and on other space such as the Choir Vesting Rooms behind the stage. Resolving those issues required discussion with the St. Andrew s Players, Kids Stuff Sale, and others. With good will and effort by all, these space challenges are being met. As examples, the Players thinned and stowed more efficiently their sets and other gear; and Kids Stuff Sale moved its storage from the Renehan Center to the Old Youth Room near the main Undercroft entrance. Circumstances sometimes forced B&G to play Sherlock Holmes. In September the Church s monthly water bill showed a 1000% spike, a surge that lasted several months. This $ 1, overage represented some 70 thousand extra gallons that were billed to St. Andrew s. B&G is working with County officials to identify and resolve this problem. In November our plumber checked every fixture in the building and did a dozen minor repairs. We have ruled out the cooling tower and the sprinkler system as the culprits. If the water meters are in order, as the County maintains, our leak occurred downstream from them. To date B&G has been unable to find where all the extra water went, but we have found one anomaly: a large washed-out area below the downspout that leads to an underground pipe in St. Anne s Garden. Spurred by the tragic shootings in Texas, and by the visit of an Arlington County Police Lieutenant who specializes in church issues, B&G took part in resumed efforts to bolster security and safety. We are discussing with Nighthawk Security how best to use panic buttons in conjunction with our legacy alarm system. Twice a year Jim issues a weekly schedule for the Duty Officers who lock and unlock the Church. Six persons now take part in this important ministry. Others like you, dear reader are invited to join them. As 2017 drew to a close, B&G saw with a red face that several long-pending tasks were still undone. These include finding new homes for some 20 trapezoidal tables that used to be in the Renehan Center, about 20 folding metal chairs, and six wooden pews that were long ago relocated from the Nave to the Undercroft. Persons interested in acquiring any of these items should contact Jim. LOOKING AHEAD After years of searching and deliberation, B&G may be near a solution to the chronic problem of poor, uneven lighting in the Nave whose high ceiling has legacy fixtures that are difficult and expensive to service. B&G has found a master electrician who once worked on lighting at the National Cathedral. Last summer that expert visited St. Andrew s and submitted a proposal to relamp the Nave and the Undercroft with low-maintenance, low-energy LED bulbs for some $13, [Nave] and $6, [Undercroft]. In the New Year B&G will try to pin down details of this proposal, get other bids, and secure financing. Relamping the Nave would meet a major goal of this parish. It would be consistent with the Sacred Spaces campaign. And it could be done right away. Implicit in the Sacred Spaces process is the view that if we build it, they will come. Whether or not that view is correct, one thing is clear: if we build it, we must do so in full awareness that the structures, equipment, and grounds of St. Andrew s will still require major resources each year. That means: Vestry funding at current levels, or higher, for the annual M&R Accounts; regular inputs to the Donnelly Building Fund, by Vestry allocation and parishioner donation; and setting up escrows for major work such as asphalt resurfacing, new cooling tower, replacement boiler, etc. Here endeth the lesson. 26 SACRED SPACES & CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Mr. Warren Marton CAPITAL CAMPAIGN In February our Capital Campaign consultants, Richie and Rachel Musser of the firm Kirby-Smith Associates, presented the results of their Feasibility Study during "Town Hall" meetings. The results were based on surveys and interviews with members of St. Andrew's. Considering these results, the Sacred Spaces team identified a revised scope of work consisting of an elevator in the stairwell by the library and enhancements to the Undercroft, Kitchen and rear Courtyard. The funding goal for the Campaign was set at $863,000. During the summer, the Capital Campaign committee prepared supporting plans, schedules, brochures, faith promise cards, mailings, etc. and the consultants arranged with several anonymous families to match, one for one, all contributions of $4,000 or more made during the Campaign. The formal launch of the Campaign occurred in early September, followed by the start of commitments from the Parish on Sunday, October 15, At the end of 2017, Campaign commitments received total $243,984, with a matching challenge pledge of $238,340 for a total of $482,324 from the Parish. When combined with contributions of $274,481 from the elevator fund made many years ago, along with a $50,000 pledge from the Golden Jubilee Trust, the grand total equals $806,805. Our Campaign goal is $863,000, and we continue to work towards meeting our goal. NEXT STEP Based upon the excellent progress to date toward achieving the Campaign goal, it soon will be time to start the next phase of the project. That will be preparation of final design drawings and specifications necessary for obtaining construction bids. The architect of the current concept design, Bill Spack of the firm Cox, Graae & Spack, has indicated that he would be pleased to work with St. Andrew's on the project. PLOT AGAINST HUNGER GARDEN & APPLE ORCHARD Mr. Dave Smith St. Andrew s has been sponsoring a Plot Against Hunger vegetable garden for 10 years and our partners at AFAC note that the garden fresh vegetables are well received and greatly appreciated by their clients. Every pound is needed because of the growing client base and our garden is a major contributor to the Plot Against Hunger program for AFAC. This outreach project attracts volunteers from the Parish along with a substantial number of volunteers from the community (the majority this year). In the Spring of 2017, we began a new partnership with Marymount University Food for thought service club mentored by Professor Susan Agolini and a robust group of active volunteers. From a 'community gardening' perspective, the Garden has promoted awareness of wholesome, sustainable organic gardening practices among our children and their families and has helped AFAC reach their goal of providing fresh vegetables and fruits for their clients. St. Andrew s is blessed with a large campus and the garden has been a wonderful way to share our bounty with the community. It has also been a great opportunity for many new gardeners to enjoy the pleasures of gardening while knowing their work and resulting yield will be greatly appreciated. Our Urban apple orchard consisting of 24 trees, continues to grow. We will probably need to replace a few trees in the Spring and will add pear trees to provide some diversity. Deer continue to enjoy the tree s new growth and fruit. We have tried various efforts to deter the deer, but alas have been minimally successful to date. We are always looking for new or innovative solutions, so input is welcome. Otherwise, the trees are flourishing and yielded two bushels of apples this year. The orchard yields are expected to grow each year as the trees grow and mature (assuming we can control the deer and pests). 26 St. Andrew s Episcopal Church

In 2017, we began the season relatively early on Sunday, April 2 (rained out on April 1) and 8 when we planted kale, collards and cabbages grown in the Smith s basement under lights along with donations from Episcopal High School and local merchants arranged by AFAC. Also in April, we planted radishes, carrots, and beet seeds. The early crops were deemed a great success. We continued to pick kale, collards through the first half of the year and carrots and beets throughout the rest of the growing season from these early plantings. Starting in May we hosted a number of work days and were again the recipient of wonderful pepper plants from the Episcopal School along with donations from local hardware and home improvement chains. Puwen Lee (AFAC coordinator) also donated sweet potato plants. The Smith basement garden additionally contributed more tomato, peppers, and summer squash seedlings to finish out the summer garden. In early June, we installed our drip irrigation system to the delight of all the volunteer waterers! The irrigation system also helps to conserve water and keeps the moisture off the foliage effectively combating disease. The watering system was particularly valuable during the periodic July August September drought-like conditions. We also successfully leveraged the Signup Genius website to maintain our water, weeding, and picking schedule throughout the season. We harvested good yields of organic summer vegetables until frost. Our total yield for the year was 2497 pounds! Additionally, St. Andrew s continues to host a growing Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) produce cooperative every Thursday. The CSA brings fresh produce from their farm for distribution to subscribers and have produce available for purchase by the community. The Sinclair CSA donated pounds of CSA vegetables this year. We attribute our continued success to our loyal volunteers (totaling 10ish from St. Andrew s parishioners) who regularly participate or water along with Marymount University Food for thought and AFAC community volunteers. On review of the 2017 season that launched in April and with a bit of trepidation for leaving someone off the list, a big thanks go out to all our garden volunteers this year including: Ted, Anne, Doris, Dave, Diana, Carla, Talal, Jannah, Corttney, Priscilla, Jane, John, Janey, Marcela, Hannah, Jen, Bob, Isabel, Alexander, Matthew along with AFAC volunteers: KC, Rachel, Gavin, Chloe, Ellie, Emily, West plus Marymount Faculty, Students, and Friends: Susan, Brennna, Allison, Alex, Aiden, Jack, Callie, Anthony, Marshal, Ndidi, Danielle, Becca, Beverly, Abdul, Alex, Marcus, Socorra, Callahan, Dominique, Alexis, André, Rodney, Emmanuela, Naomi, Deonchae, Jasmine, Elizabeth, Lwazi, Laura, Sarah, John, Jordan, Alan, Shannon, Bryan, Lindsey Nathan, Dylan, Valerie, Simone, Ochi, Chinwe, Obi, Misan, Mikayla, James, Michael, C.C., Fran, Connor, Carson, Raelynn, Erich, Remington, Tommy, Sam, James, Vivianna, Rebecca, Justin, Elizabeth, Matthew, Natasha, Jasmine plus a wonderful crew from Falls Church Resurrection Parish including: Theo, Christina, Justin, Lauren, Richard, Valentina, and Michael and the Northern Virginia Junior League including Victoria, Kristine, Brittany, Stephanie Caitlin, Sam, Natasha, Kelly and Ojennofer. In addition, Portico Church Arlington: Dylan, Valerie, Laura, Karina, Abby, Claudia, Fiona, Nathan, Eavan, Robert, Ben, Michael, Kelsey, NaKayla along with a crew from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Anne, Jyothi, Kavya, Rachel, Jack, Jeff, Sergio, and Laya plus Ambassador Bible Church volunteers Lauren, Justin, Kezhen, Mike, Philip, Nick, Lincoln and Ezra. Finally, a big thanks to Nat at Episcopal High School for providing wonderful healthy plants for the garden throughout the Spring, the Sinclair s CSA for donating beautiful produce from their CSA, and importantly Puwen (AFAC outreach coordinator) for her continued encouragement, abundant seeds, volunteers, and plants. I also want to provide a special call out and thanks to Anne and Ted for their consistent and reliable leadership and support of this season s impressive efforts. Annual Report
