1 e g a m I n o i t a Incarn From the PASTOR Dear Friends, I purchased my car about a year ago. I enjoy the bells and whistles, but mostly I made my purchase based on safety and a warranty. On Wednesday, I sat over at the dealer as they needed to install a new part. They told me about an hour, but it took over an hour and a half. We have no guarantees in this life or do we. Through baptism, God promises never to leave us that we are a child of God forever. This is a promise we can trust a certainty. To doubt this promise is to doubt the very power of God. We are able to walk the other way but God still follows. As the psalmist reminds us so vividly in the 23rd psalm, God does not make the road easy there will still be hills and valleys some deeper and darker than our imagination can fathom. Still our God promises to walk by our side no matter how deep the valley may get, Cars will fail batteries will not charge, tires will go flat. Roofs will leak. Microwaves will only zap for so long. Yes, even the Everready bunny will one day stop. God will outlast all of these. God s love is stronger than all these put together. We have one guarantee in our life that is the love that God shares. On a very basic level, we bring in less money each month than what we need for our monthly bills ii. Need to keep a positive attitude towards this b. Membership i. This ties directly into the budget Fewer members means less giving ii. Looking at creating a Special Committee iii. Get enough members to fill the church for 2 services 7. Adjournment a. Carl Peters, officiated at the baptism. Welcome to God s family. Happy 50th. Anniversary to Ken and Nancy Anderson. May God continue to bless their life together. A blessed 98th Happy Birthday to Connie Kardoskee. Connie enjoys visits from Pastor and our Lay Ministry Group. Please remember her in your prayers. In Memoriam Prayers and sympathy extended to those families who have lost a loved Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Kaye Sterling and her family on the death of her mother, Lorraine Valeske. Services at Trinity Lutheran on August 23. Last month, August, Bishop Mansholt s mother passed away. Please continue to keep our Bishop in your prayers. Our New Meditation/ Prayer Chapel More than just thanks go to Pastor Mike for renovating the old kitchen into this beautiful area for personal mediation. This setting includes pictures, music, and helpful reading materials all available for help. Let us take some time to talk with God and time for God to talk to us through Scripture and meditation. Leaving 8:00 am sharp First stop is a visit to the Hilbert Art & Antique Shop. It opened in July of this year and features unique antique and collectible items, as well as artwork by owner, Daniel Green. Next to New Holstein and the Bleating Heart Haven Farms. The owner shears, cards, dyes, and creates items from her angora goats, bunnies and sheep... all in the gift shop. Watch demonstrations! LUNCH at a café & cheese shop in Pipe (yes, there is a Pipe, WI). This is also a goat farm, and you can take a self-guided tour. Lunch menus will be passed out ahead of time and called forward, to save time. Our last stop is Abler Art Glass Studio in Kiel. If you are interested in seeing a demo of this art, please so indicate by signing up (Narthax) and noting $5 after your signature. 5 S E P T E M B E R, P A G E 5 More on the calendar (a busy month) Beginning of Sunday School 10:00 - after Worship Welcoming all youngsters ages 3 and up. Sunday School will run from 10:00 to 10:45 along side Adult Education, so children and parents can share in Worship, followed by their own time for learning. Linda Snell will lead this year and will be sharing stories from the New Testament following the Vacation Bible School theme "On God's Path." An emphasis on prayer and building a relationship with Jesus will be central. Pastor Mike continues a program started last year, as proposed by one of our members. Anyone involved with school -- from preschool to graduate school --from students to teachers, aides or administrators -- are invited to bring in an item (like a backpack or a briefcase) that will be used at school. These are blessed so that all may remember that God walks with them on their way back to classes. We will provide some extras in case people forget. Adult Forum Returns 10:15 - after Worship Pastor Carl Peters leads our first Sunday Adult Forum after summer break. Eats and treats, as usual, but now accompanied with the viewing and discussion of the video Be Still and Know that I am God. Psalm 46:10. Themes of the video include the difference between hearing and listening as well as Biblical illustrations of how God leads and directs. Please come, join us for learning and fellowship. Forum in the weeks to come Pastor Ralph Hankermeyer will continue the insight into Jesus miracles and then help us look at the Old Testament, specifically Abraham and Moses. He will share some recent findings! Confirmation Classes begin this Month Wednesdays: September 16th and 30th. First topic: the study of Luther s Small Catechism. The FUN in FUNDRAISING BRAT-BARN FRI.- SEPT. 11 We return to the Brat-Barn at Festival on West Mason. Volunteers needed, please. Shifts are split into shorter times. Sign-up in the Narthex. 6 P A G E 6 S E P T E M B E R, YOUTH MISSION TRIP July 28th 31st. Incarnation s Youth took a mission trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They worked at a Bible Camp and a nursing home while sleeping at the camp and at a church. Service projects, educational events, and FUN! Many, many thanks to the Snells for the use of their van. There and back...great trip! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL August 3rd thru 7th Eleven precious little ones learned how to Stay on God s Path in VBS. Attendance more than doubled from last year. This theme helped build a personal relationship with Jesus. Tools included each keeping a journal of prayers and daily activities. Drawing pictures supplemented these journals. Thanks to Izzie, Aly, Ayla, and Lizzy who volunteered to help the little ones with these activities. Who is holding her prized Mz. (or Mr.) Recycle Head? Special thanks to Wal-mart for the flowers (the hair) and to Festival for the cans (the body). Thanks to all who donated snacks and materials for this week. Students became aware of some new foods and became quite good at recognizing what Jesus would or wouldn t eat! In the Incarnation tradition, the food for the School-ending potluck was delicious.

7 S E P T E M B E R, P AGE 7 OUTREACH at INCARNATION EPH Board News The Board met and approved the purchase of a home on Porlier St. (Behind St. Vincent Hospital) Over half of the cost of the home was donated by an anonymous donor. Another $20,000 was donated to EPH in July, plus unallocated funds, which made the purchase possible. It will be a long term home for a family, with the possibility to buy, if they chose. To gain awareness of life in a family of low income or one in crisis, Board members will read and study the book Our Kids by Robert Putman Requests for Specific Needs Salvation Army is in need of Household Cleaners and $25.00 gas cards. The counselors supply families in our homes with these items as needed. EPH is also looking for a Mentor Mechanic, who would be willing to help clients understand how to care for their cars. Many do not have cars and have to rely on bus service. Anyone wishing to donate a car in good working order is encouraged to think about giving to an EPH client. Please talk to Karen, Barb or Bob for details. Our Luke House Family Our Lower Luke House Family is doing OK. The 15 year old son has been hired at a fast-food restaurant and is doing well. He started football practice, and is working hard to be a good player. He enjoys football a lot. The daughter attended Camp Hope and is making new friends. Mom is in water therapy with hope to alleviate some of her pain and to strengthen her muscles. The whole family is in counseling to help improve their relationships with each other. Please keep them in your prayers as they strive to improve their lives together. We are happy that they have a safe home to live in. It is a wonderful ministry to help families like them. New EPH Board Member for Incarnation Our new Board member from Incarnation to the EPH Board is Karen Blom. The board meets once a month at noon on the second Wednesday. They meet at various participating churches. Karen will have a part in making decisions for EPH and will be reporting any big changes, projects or news to the congregation, via newsletter or bulletin announcements. Barb Brumm will continue as the coordinator of Lower Luke House and Bob Brumm as the outside coordinator of Luke House. Bethel Congregation has the upper unit and helps with outside work at the house. Any questions may be directed to either Karen, Barb or Bob. Thank you, Karen, for saying yes to filling this position. For your Personal Finances, Seminar - Thursday. September 10 Calvary Lutheran Church along with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be hosting a seminar on WILLS, TRUSTS, and BENIFICARY accounts. Come hear the difference to know which one is right for you and your family. Presenters will be Calvary member Jeff Martinson from Martinson Law Offices, and Ben Borchardt from Thrivent. Our Worship Service will continue to be at 9 a.m. even after summer. September will be the start of our congregation celebrating just one service...at 9 am. Sunday School and Adult Forum will be 10 a.m. This change came after Lee Blom led discussions on two Sundays in June. After Council consideration, these new times were found to serve us best. NOTE: This is decision is considered a test. Evaluation is in the future 6 12 months A Defibulator for Incarnation Incarnation has been informed that we are to be awarded a new defibulator (AED). A big thank you to thank Kris Seeholzer for her efforts on our behalf. She knew who to take to and did the work that made it happen. Needed: people wishing to be trained on this unit.
