For 40 years now the Benedictine community has extended their ministry of hospitality, community and prayer to thousands through the Centre. 4 Shekinah: Formation for the Ministry of Spiritual Direction Do you feel called to accompany others? Do others seek you out? This 2-year supervised program is for women and men of any denomination and walk of life, discerning a call to accompany others on the spiritual journey. Those considering application must have at least one year s experience of receiving regular spiritual direction prior to applying. Applications for class of available January Deadline April 30. Call by Sept spirituality series continued 40-Something Series: Saturdays, 9 am noon In honour of the Centre s 40th Anniversary, we are offering three mini-retreats arising from the significance of the number 40 in sacred scripture and as applied to our everyday lives. $25 per session / $70 for series Nov. 20 Letting Be: Based on the Exodus journey of 40 years and the midlife journey of age 40-something, we will explore and reflect on the this period of wandering and wondering, of disorientation and re-orientation. Mary Coswin,OSB Mar. 26 Letting Go: The 40 days of Lent mirror the time Jesus spent in the desert before beginning his ministry. Come spend time reflecting creatively and contemplatively on what it is like to be in the desert. Rachel Twigg Boyce is the director of House Blend Ministries, an initiative of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Manitoba. She is completing her training as a spiritual director in Shekinah at St.Benedict s. Apr. 9 Letting Grow: Like the 40 weeks of human gestation, the earth requires time and care to grow to fullness. Come explore with Arthur important metaphors in the Psalms for earth, the environment, and living things, while tracing their influence in contemporary culture, for example in recent films. The Psalms, like the earth that is our home, can provide wonderful resources for life. Arthur Walker-Jones is Professor, Faculty of Theology, at the University of Winnipeg. He is an author whose most recent book is entitled The Green Psalms.
7 Romancing the Word: Lectio Divina as Spiritual Practice for Today's Seekers Sat., Mar. 5 and 12, 10:00 am 3:30 pm Lectio divina (Latin for "divine reading") is a way of prayer and scriptural reading that promotes communion with God and provides spiritual insights into one s self and life. Though originating among Catholic monks and early Christians, Lectio is also adaptable for people of any faith in reading one s scriptures whether that be the Christian Bible, Bhagavad-Gita, the Torah, or the Koran. Participants will learn the origins and history, the benefits and the practice of lectio divina through presentations and practice individually and as a group using scripture, other sacred writings and one s own life experiences. $40 per day; $80 for both / lunch included Marie Baker, OSB is a spiritual director, musician, workshop presenter, and a gardener. Mary Coswin, OSB is experienced in guiding retreats and offering spiritual direction. Both are members of St. Benedict's Monastery and have worked with a variety of faith communities. Cantate! Jung. It was not accessible until its long -awaited publication and exhibition at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York last year. The Friday evening lecture begins with a brief introduction to Jung s psychology with a focus on dreams and then highlights Jung s own discussion in The Red Book of his dreams and visions during his descent into the unconscious and their impact on his life and work. The Red Book will be on display.
