2 Dear Mary of the Star Parishioners: I wish you all a Blessed Advent, a beautiful time of year when we prepare ourselves spiritually for the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas. These four weeks offer us a opportunity to slow down and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and the reality that God so loved the world that He sent His Beloved Son as a babe to save us from our sins. What a remarkable gift to each and every one of us. I encourage all to take the spiritual opportunity this Advent to grow closer to Christ especially through Confession and Holy Mass, thus preparing ourselves for the Adventus the Coming of the Babe of Bethlehem. This time of year we see a great deal of Angels in art and elsewhere, I thought it might be helpful to learn about them and how much they do for us here on earth as well as in Heaven. Institute the buddy system have your kids hold your hand or one another s. Talk with your children about what to do, and who to go to for help, should you become separated. Parish Improvement We are moving forward with a kneeler cushion replacement and repair project. We will replace all cushions and install new padded feet for each kneeler. Installation is currently scheduled to begin the week of November 28th and be completed end of the week. The Holy Hour begins with exposition of The Blessed Sacrament. Within the hour, there are readings from Sacred Scripture and the saints, time for silent reflection, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Holy Hour concludes with Benediction. Please come and spend one hour with Jesus. This is a special time of abundant blessings for all! 5 Natural Family Planning Course Offerings What is Natural Family Planning ( NFP )? Natural Family Planning assists married couples who may need to space the births of children, as well as helping them understand and even overcome problems with infertility. Assisted by NFP, Catholic couples choose life-giving love, and with it, true joy. We will be offering two different models of NFP in the coming months. Couples are encouraged to choose the one which they feel is best for them 1) THE CREIGHTON MODEL is a one sign method which also offers NaPro technology, a moral and safe way of assisting couples who may have difficulty conceiving, as well as assisting women who suffer with various cycle-related issues. There is one introductory course, with individual follow-up visits, according to the couple s needs. 7 MARY STAR OF THE SEA HIGH SCHOOL OUR SCHOOLS MARY STAR OF THE SEA ELEMENTARY & PRE- SCHOOL & P MSHS News: Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball team who finished the season 17-7 and 10-0 in league play wrapping up another League Championship and advancing to the second round of the CIF Playoffs. Great season for our Football team which finished 6-4, narrowly missing the playoffs, and our Cross Country teams for another exiting season. Thank you to those who participated in our annual Alumni basketball games this past week and making the events a successful. Every year Mary Star High School holds a toy drive to provide for children who are less fortunate in our San Pedro community. We humbly ask for your help by donating a new unwrapped toy to the office. The drive is being held from November 28th - December 16th. Students may also donate cash to their homerooms which will be used to assist the families. As we begin the Jubilee Year of Mercy, please remember those in our community that are in need and continue to hold them in your prayers. Thank you for your generosity. MSHS Winter Sports Mass, Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale: The 9 a.m. Mass on Sunday, December 11 th includes the introduction of our Winter Sports teams. This is the major event for our elementary school and we ask all parishioners to be a part of our effort. This is our 15 th year of sharing gaming, prizes and great food to benefit the students of MSSE. The proceeds from this event are returned directly to Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School to offer financial assistance to families. This week at Mary Star Elementary: Students received their report cards for the first trimester of the school year. Student Council facilitated a school wide canned goods collection for Christian Care.
