1 J U N E 2017 Messiah Messenger Gather.Grow.Go.Spread the Good News! Hello, Summer! It took a while to get here but summer has finally arrived!!! Given the chilly temps and wintery conditions we endure for a good portion of the year, the summer is a welcome reprieve that many of us try to take full advantage of. One of the only unfortunate parts of our Minnesota summers (besides those devil-bugs known as mosquitoes ) is that our schedules can inhibit us from regularly worshipping at Messiah on Sundays. Because of that sporadic attendance and the general busyness that is about to ensue, here are 5 pieces of information that we want to be sure you know about: 1. Joint Summer Worship: For the 4 th consecutive year, we are joining our friends from Moe for our weekly, Sunday worship. We rotate locations with Moe from week to week so please check the summer schedule located within this newsletter. 2. Arrival of Baby Beery: Pastor Lisa and I are eagerly awaiting the birth of our second child. The due date is July 16 th. A scheduled C-Section is in the works for July 10 th or 11 th. After the baby is born, I plan on taking 4 full weeks of parental leave to enjoy time with the baby as well as all the family who are planning on visiting. After those 4 weeks, I hope to spend the rest of the summer primarily focusing only on responsibilities around Sunday services. Pastor Lisa plans to be on leave from July 10 th -October 1 st. 3. Pathways Day Camp: Pathways will be at Messiah for Day Camp which runs July 10 th -13 th for current K-6 th grade students. Preschoolers (4-5 yr olds) are able to attend a special morning session on July 12 th. If you d like more info, please check the current newsletter or call the office. Register ASAP! 4. New Church Directory!: It has been 5 years since the creation of our last pictorial church directory. These are very beneficial resources that enable us to better connect with one another. We ve coordinated with Moe, who will also be creating a new directory, in order to offer more photography dates. There will be two weeks of photography times to choose from rather than just one. Those weeks are: August 2 nd -August 5 th at Messiah and August 23 rd -26 th at Moe. More detailed info will be coming soon! 5. Summer Giving: We are currently operating at a net loss for the 2017 year. While this is not unusual at this point in the year, it is something that the Church Council is watching and they would like to encourage us to remember our tithes and offerings during these busy upcoming months our financial gifts enable our family of faith to function in the ways that we do and we very much want that to continue! Also, if you struggle to keep up with your summer giving with the consistency you d prefer, please check out the automatic deposit method of giving (the form for automatic deposit can be located in the back of the June newsletter). As always, thank you for your generosity! It s going to be a fun, busy summer for me and likely for many of you as well. I hope our paths are able to routinely cross in worship and, if not, may you still find ways to give thanks and praise to our gracious and loving God. Grace and Peace, Pastor Michael

2 A letter from the Council President Live among God s faithful people This phase has been on my mind recently. I was first reminded of it while I mentored a confirmation student and discussed why it is important to live among God people. The confirmation students will affirm their Baptismal covenant this fall to live among God s faithful people. We have had a few Baptism s in the recent months where parents and Godparents have promised to raise their son or daughter among God s faithful people. And as I write this, several families are preparing for high school graduation. I think about the high school seniors from Messiah Mack Bergstrom, Emily Sorensen, Kaitlyn Hulst, Lindsey Santl, Jacob LePard, Alec Severson, Adam Hedlund, Trevor McMillin, Bryden Stoskopf, and Cole Johnson. As they venture out into the world, I pray that they find God s faithful people in the next chapter of their life as well as know that they will always find God s faithful people at Messiah. As I look forward into the summer, we at Messiah will be worshipping with God s faithful people from Moe. I look forward to see my family and friends from Moe during these opportunities to worship together. Each church council is trying to mix it up a bit and have members from both church s serve together on Sunday s as greeters, ushers, etc. When you see the message from Chelsie or Pastor Michael to serve, please take this opportunity to do so with our family at Moe. I am looking forward to the summer worship schedule to live among God s faithful people at Messiah and Moe. Karyn Santl Church Council President Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism: live among God s faithful people; hear the word of God and share in the Lord s Supper; proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed; serve all people following the example of Jesus; and strive for justice and peace in all the earth? Response: We do, and ask God to help and guide us.
