1 IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN New Richmond, Wisconsin Annual Parish Report As we look at the past year, it is affirming to see what we have done together We have updated communications with a new phone system and added color copier/printer capabilities in both the church and school The school s carpeting was replaced through the Mardi Gras Special Auction 2017 Payments and pay offs through special gifts on various loans and projects were made possible Liturgy was enhanced with the purchase of a new sound system and a grand piano The Buildings and Grounds Committee, along with our new Buildings and Grounds supervisor, Alex Lamers, is working to keep our facilities in great shape! We also are working on how we minister to our parishes Parish Success Group, headed by Rich Curran, is Coaching both parishes in how to best use what we have to reach, not only those who are very active, but also to reach out to those who only come to church periodically, or not at all Our goal is to meet the needs of as many people as possible The structure of Catholic Formation has also changed to reach one of the goals by the addition of a full-time Youth Minister & a Catholic Formation WITC Distinguished Alumni 2017 Coordinator for our Preschool through Grade 10 programs, which helps us to Fr John Anderson better serve our youth This coming year I invite you to join in how we maintain our parishes and school on the inside and through outreach We will be reflecting on how we can welcome, invite, grow in faith, and become even more vibrant in our parishes How can you be involved? This is a good question which I hope all will reflect upon We also need to reflect on how we financially support our parishes and school When each person brings their strengths so much can be accomplished I believe working together the Holy Spirit is going to lead us in directions that will be awesome! 5 Youth Ministry Youth Ministry, what is it? A Christ centered, relational ministry with three identified goals: 1 To empower youth to live as Disciples of Christ in our world today, 2 To encourage youth to share their God given gifts and talents with the parish and larger community, 3 To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person In order to do these three things, we must be aware and respond to the needs of our youth, to meet them where they are at and create a variety of ways to reach each and every unique individual I believe we need to start with the foundation Start by really getting to know each other and building relationships across all generations all ages This is a relational ministry The young and old alike can learn from each other and grow in our faith as we discover God in our relationships as we discover God in each other And it is through our examples of living out our Catholic faith and including the youth in this lifestyle that our youth will be equipped to make their faith their own, and live it! Our youth are our future but they are also our present! 8 TIME Talent TREASURE Looking to the Future BIG PROJECTS Youth Ministry $27,500 Parish Coaching $20,000 Basement Leak & Landscaping $18,000 Re-Seal Parking Lot $6,000 St Mary Fire Alarm Upgrade $1,500 Catholic Formation Smart TV $1,300 Billboards on New Highway Advertising Our Parishes and School and Their Programs Wondering about that Basement Project that many donated to through the Diocesan Campaign? We haven t forgotten or used the money for something else When the leaks and landscaping prove to have been fixed, the basement project will begin Projects & Programs Having a beautiful facility and being able to function in it helps us to make faith more vibrant to those that come to us So when you are considering your tithe this year, please remember how we are trying to take care of you and the ones you love through these Projects and Programs in Help us help you! So What Does it Mean to Tithe? This question has been asked a lot over the ages In Hebrew Scriptures this meant the giving of 10% of the first fruits of your labor, the first and best wheat, the first and finest sheep Whatever your profession, the first part was given back to God, because God gave it to us with generosity and love What does it mean today? Generally, we understand that the government takes a part of our wages and shares them with those in need Maybe even 5% So if we do the math, then another 5% should be given from our wages to other charities BUT, if we give out of sheer math, we miss the whole point Where is the faith? Where is the intentionality? Where is the trust that God will always give us exactly what we need? If you are scared, that is OKAY God understands fear and wants to help Start by trying to give 1/2% this year of your gross wages Be intentional You can not out give God! If you are already giving more than a 1/2%, challenge yourself to do more, 2%, or 5%, or maybe even more! At first most people find letting go hard, but the amazing thing is, that after a few months you will notice that you have enough, and even more than you need God is generous, if only we let God prove it Have you tried E-Giving? You can give By Mobile Ap Text Paper Application Signing Up on the Church Website AND By Kiosk If you are interested in E-Giving go to ic-churchcom to find out more So What Does it Mean for Immaculate Conception to Tithe? When our Councils first started exploring this question, their questions, were the same as for families exploring the question, We don t even have enough to pay our own bills sometimes How can we give something away? Trust, Trust, Trust And so Immaculate Conception decided to do what all families do, and start by intentionally giving 1/2% of its collections to a different charity every month The Five Year Plan is to give a bigger percentage each year until our parish has reached the 5% tithe Then we will see if we can give more Grace Place was the first charity we chose, because on average, Immaculate Conception has 2 to 5 families per week that come for help We refer them to Grace Place if they are homeless St Jude s Children s Hospital is our second charity Anyone touched by cancer or other terminal illness understands the tragedy of sick children St Jude Children s Hospital brings hope and help for families of these children When you give to IC, you give to the needy
