LIFE AT WESTMINSTER Do you have a friendly smile and cheery countenance? If so, please consider this an invitation to assist in worship by being a greeter and/or offering receiver on Sunday mornings. We hope you will consider serving in this way. For more information please contact Fred Aoki, our Head Usher, at or at aokify@cc.umanitoba.ca. New nametags are here! If you submitted an order for a nametag in the last three months, please check the cabinets at the back of the sanctuary, as the new nametags are here! The next order will be placed in March. Mark the date: Sunday, November 17, 2013! Mincemeat will be available for sale following the morning service. Where s Jim? Our Voluntary Associate Minister, Rev. Dr. James Christie, is having a much travelled fall. Recently, he was in Sutton, Ontario to conduct the 150 th Anniversary Service for the United Church congregation which he used to serve. He will soon be heading to South Korea for meetings of the World Council of Churches. He ll be back at the end of November and will be preaching on December 8.
7 November, 2013 Dear Members and Friends, For many years, the stewardship committee has conducted an annual campaign starting in November. We have two sign up meetings after Sunday worship. These reduce the number of members and adherents we must contact in person or by phone. Every effort is made to complete the campaign by late December. in setting the campaign objective, we work with the budget and management committee to assist in completing the budget for the following year. Financial support from our members and adherents has been decreasing in recent years and some pledged obligations have not been met in full, making it difficult to balance the book s. In 2013, the Westminster Foundation agreed to a request from the church board to take responsibility for 1) several of the larger variable church expenses up to $50,000, and 2) a shortfall in special fundraising up to $30,000, for this year only. This should allow the church to pay all bills and maintain the outstanding service provided to our members and the community around us. We appeal to all members and adherents of our congregation to consider an increase of 10% in their support for This will go a long way in reducing dependence on the foundation and reduction of the expected shortfall in revenue vs expenses. Yours truly, We encourage as many of you as possible to complete pledge forms on Sunday, November 17 and Sunday, November 24 to minimize calls after December 1. John Moore, Chair Stewardship committee

12 Westminster Children s Christmas Sale Saturday, December 7, 2013 Each year, the Children s Christmas Sale provides an opportunity for kids to participate in the spirit of giving without spending more money than their parents can afford. Sadly, many families dread Christmas because of the economic strain it brings. When mums and dads can t encourage children to be part of the generosity of the season, it adds to the heartbreak for families with little Christmas cash. Westminster provides an opportunity for children to shop and wrap gifts for everyone on their lists without spending more than a few dollars. Meanwhile, their adults can relax in the Library with a cup of tea or coffee and a dessert, and enjoy the serenity of our lovely church. And this all happens because of you! You make it happen by donating items such as costume jewelry, toiletries, knitting, stationery, household items, cups and saucers, mugs, stuffed toys, books, perfume, games, puzzles, ties anything you think a child might like to give to family members or friends. We also need wrapping paper, ribbon, tags, and bags. Please be sure that your items are in new condition. Please drop off your donations at the Church office soon, and watch for opportunities to volunteer at the sale. Pamela McLeod,
