6 Regional News and Congregational Meetings PAGE Iowa State Fair Hmn Sing The Christian Church in the Upper Midwest has been hosting the Iowa State Fair Hmn Sing since This has been an important dail Christian witness at the state fair for man decades. Ever da from 11:30 AM to Noon and 6:30 7:00 PM people gather at the First Church on the state fair grounds for an old fashioned hmn sing. It is an amazing experience. The church is usuall packed and people are actuall hanging in the open windows and standing out around the church lifting their voices in praise. We have the opportunit again this ear to bless lives through this outreach mission. The 2018 Iowa State Fair takes place August Volunteers are needed each da to greet people at the door, lead the singing, and pla the piano. We also sweep the church before the hmn sing begins, straighten up afterwards, and refill all the hmn book displa holders. It takes a little over an hour of our time. We provide free admission tickets and a parking ticket for our volunteers so the onl cost to ou is our time. If ou are willing to assist with this witness and mission please contact Joann Thomas, she will be doing the scheduling for our volunteers. You can contact Joann b at revthomas77@gmail.com; b phone at First Christian Church, Spencer ; or b mail at First Christian Church, 701 East 18th, PO Box 1440, Spencer, IA An Open Ask For the Church Bill Spangler-Dunning, Regional Minister M parents rarel asked much of me when I was oung. Oh, the often asked me to do the normal things parents ask of their children but onl on a few occasions did m parents ask me to step up and give everthing I had to give as a human being. So, when the did ask me for something above and beond, I knew the reall needed m extra effort. The alwas followed up their request b saing, It won t be eas, but it is ver important! Well, as our regional minister, I am asking. Will ou go out of our wa to love each other? Will ou take that extra breath that helps ou listen a little deeper with those whom ou disagree? Will ou look around our congregation during communion each Sunda and ask who is missing? Will ou go that extra effort to make sure ALL people are welcomed and Affirmed in our church? Church, I know this won t be eas, as sometimes ou will have to speak up and take a stand. But church, what ou do together is ver important! Thank You in advance for being the amazing church I have witnessed ou to be so man times before! Chi Rho Building Update What a difference one month can make! Chi Rho Countr is transforming right before our ees. After a kick-off weekend with over 80 builders hard at work, there s been a stead stream of volunteers adding their own touch to the new cabin in Chi Rho Countr. Building will continue over the next man months and volunteers are alwas needed. If ou, individuall or as part of a group from our church, would like to join in the fun of this building project, contact the Christian Conference Center.
