Help Wanted If you have spent much time on the 3rd floor of the education wing lately, you have seen that the children and youth committee (and our youth) have worked really hard to update the high school youth group room. Our last big project is to make the bathroom equally attractive and functional. To that end, we are searching for someone who would like to spend some time stripping wallpaper in that bathroom. Times are flexible-do it when it works in your schedule. All the supplies are furnished, but we need your elbow grease! If you are interested in doing all or part of this or are willing to organize a crew, please contact Betsy (betsy.thompson@cpcames.org or ). Helser - The Rev. Katherine Werner, Chaplain at Mary Greeley Medical Center, and Hospice Chaplain will lead a discussion on the issues of grief and loss. NO all-church meal Summer Camp at Lakeshore Center at Okoboji Summer and summer camp will be here before we know it! At Lakeshore Center at Okoboji there are many great sessions to pick from for children pre-school and up! There are opportunities for families and grandparents to go to camp as well. Please check out the link below and hopefully you can find one that fits your needs. Our Presbyterian Women generously provide camperships of half the cost of camp up to $200. (For a $200 camp, they will pay $100. For a $450 camp, they will pay $200).To apply for this campership, please contact Nancy Applequist at nappleq@gmail.com. Additionally, the Lakeshore Center has lots of scholarship money available and can be requested directly through them. 3 Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser The high school youth group pancake breakfast fundraiser and silent auction raised $1,472.The money raised will be used to help defray costs associated with the trip. Thank you to everyone who supported this group of young people as they go on their mission trip this July. Club CPC goes to Green Hills Club CPC children had the opportunity to go to Green Hills to play games and get to know CPC residents who live there. They played games, talked and enjoyed spending time with one another. It is always a great thing to have CPC s youngest and oldest generations in fellowship with one another. Please mark your calendars for June 4-8, 2018, from 9 am to noon for CPC s Rolling River Rampage VBS. (If we have too many snow days, this will be pushed back). Children ages 3 (and potty trained) through those finishing 5th grade are invited to join us on a white-water rafting adventure to experience the ride of a lifetime with God! Along the river, children discover that life with God is an adventure full of wonder and surprise, and that they can trust God to be with them through anything. Relevant music, exciting science, creative crafts, fun recreation, and memorable Bible stories will help kids know that God is always with them as they ride the rapids of amazing grace! This fun filled week takes many, many, MANY hands. Middle and high school youth as well as adults are welcome to join us in our fun adventure. Questions or want to volunteer? Thank You Notes: Thank you to everyone who donated items or money to MICA for the high school youth group personal hygiene product drive. We were able to surpass our goal of 1000 rolls of toilet paper and 50 feminine hygiene products. While we did not meet our goal for deodorants, we were able to collect more than 125 which is an impressive number. MICA was grateful for these donations as they are often requested and rarely on hand to distribute. Highlights from Session Meeting February 27, 2018 Session met yesterday evening at 6:30 p.m. in Sarah Barlow Lounge. Caleb Corona offered the devotion and prayer incorporating joys and concerns. Authorized Moderator Palmer to appoint the commissioner for the next stated meeting of the Presbytery of North Central Iowa on March 6 at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls; to appoint the commission for receiving new members on March 25; to appoint the commission to examine for installation deacons -elect Dick Richman and Bryan Shanks on a date yet to be determined. Called a Special Session Meeting for Saturday May 5 at 2:00 p.m. in Helser Chapel to examine and receive confirmands as members of CPC. Approved the Pastor Position Description for use by the PNC with some additional formatting edits yet to be made. Agreed to renew providing minutes of session meetings in a binder in the office for members to review beginning in March with the approved minutes of yesterday evening's meeting. Consideration of online access continues with insuring appropriate security measures are in place to keep personal data from becoming available to people and organizations outside of CPC. Began a review of the policy for cancelling worship services, church activities and the office due to weather concerns. Received notification from Houston & Seeman, P.C. of Boone, IA of the completion of reviews of 2015 and 2016 financial statements reflecting the assessment that the financial statements are in accordance with the modified cash basis of accounting. Received and reviewed minutes and reports from the Trustees and various committees. The meeting adjourned with prayer by Moderator Palmer at 8:15 p.m.

5 2017 Ames Alternative Gift Market Summary Many thanks to members and friends of CPC for their generosity in supporting the 2017 Ames Alternative Gift Market. CPC members and friends contributed over $10,000 to the various local, national, and international projects selected for this past year s Market. Of the 38 projects (8 local and 30 national/international) 37 will receive help from CPC s AGM. The local projects that will receive $400 or more through CPC include ACCESS and the Emergency Residence Project. National/international projects that will receive $400 or more from CPC members/friends include Harvest for Self-Sufficiency (coffee and chocolate planting in Belize, Honduras, Panama), Recycle to Equip a Hospital (Bolivia), Bicycles for Humanity (Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia), Urban Mobile Libraries (Ethiopia), Bridge the Gender Gap with Education (Kenya), Rescue Children from Sex Trafficking (Dominican Republic, India, Philippines), and Pay It Forward with Family Farms (Haiti). The other Ames congregations that participate in the AGM include Bethesda Lutheran, Collegiate United Methodist, First United Methodist, Northminster Presbyterian, St. Cecilia, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and United Church of Christ Congregational. Altogether the Ames Alternative Gift Market brought in $25, Local projects will receive $6, and national/international projects will receive $18, (The remainder of $ was donated to cover expenses for cards, handling, and advertising.) The total is a significant increase from the last several years when then the totals were around $20,000. And thanks to Cynthia Shriver (St. Cecilia) and Ingrid Anderson (UCC) for all their work in organizing this effort & 2016 Financial Review A financial review was conducted by Houston & Seaman, P.C.
