2 The Order of Worship July 26, :10 AM To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory, to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whoever will come - this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome Prelude *Call to Worship Rev. David Rea Minister: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds. All: I will be glad and exult in You. I will sing praise to Your name, O Lord, Most High. Minister: And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. All: Sing praises to the Lord who sits enthroned on Zion! Tell among the peoples His marvelous deeds! 3 *Prayer of Invocation and Adoration Rev. Ronnie Rowe Confession of Faith From the Westminster Confession of Faith 17.1 and Philippians 1:6 Minister: Will all Christians persevere until the end? All: Those whom God has accepted in his Beloved, effectually called, and sanctified by his Spirit, can neither totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace, but will certainly persevere in it to the end and be eternally saved. For Scripture promises that he who began a good work in us will bring it to completion in the day of Jesus Christ. Song of Praise The Church s One Foundation MOSS The church's one Foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the Word: From heav'n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. Elect from every nation, yet one o er all the earth; Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy Name she blesses, partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued. 'Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, She waits the consummation of peace for evermore; Till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest. Public Confession of Sin Minister: Let us confess our sins before our righteous and holy God. All: Almighty God, you are rich in mercy to all those who call upon You. We confess that we have broken Your holy laws by our deeds and by our words, and by the sinful affections of our hearts. We confess before You our disobedience and ingratitude, our pride and willfulness. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father. Grant that we may hereafter serve and please You in newness of life. Private Confession of Sin Assurance of Pardon Christ Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. 4 *Scripture Reading Ruth 1:1-8 1 In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there. 3 But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years, 5 and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so that the woman was left without her two sons and her husband. 6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that the LORD had visited his people and given them food. 7 So she set out from the place where she was with her two daughters-in-law, and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. David Rea *Hymn of Response In Christ Alone GETTY AND TOWNEND In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid here in the death of Christ I live. No guilt in life, no fear in death this is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand. The Lord s Table All those who trust in Christ alone for their salvation, are baptized, and belong to a Bible believing church are invited to partake of the Lord s Supper together, feeding on the grace of God by faith. If you have not put your trust in Christ, please allow the elements to pass you by and take this opportunity to meditate on the meaning of the Gospel. A word to parents: Baptized children are invited to the table after they have made a profession of faith and been received as communing members by the Session of the church to which their parents belong. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished, His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished. I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no power, no wisdom, But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart, His wounds have paid my ransom. 8 PPC Announcements Children s Sunday School Teachers for Upcoming Year We are in need of volunteers who would like to teach Children s Sunday school for this upcoming year. Men s Fall Retreat Mark your calendars for our second annual Men s Fall Retreat at Pine Cove, October 2 nd 3 rd! The speaker will be Dr. John Currid, the Carl W. McMurray Professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte and pastor of Ballantyne Presbyterian Church (ARP). His topic will be Biblical manhood from the life of King David. Union Gospel Mission Dinner We serve dinner at Union Gospel Mission s Calvert Kitchen the fourth Monday of each month from 6:30-9pm. Our next dinner will be Monday, July 27th. PPC Chancel Choir Mission Trip Jonathan & Jill Smith will be joining the PPC chancel choir on their short term mission trip to the United Kingdom July 24-August 4. The group will be singing and working with some ministry outreaches in London, York, Durham, St. Andrews and Edinburgh. There are about 90 people going altogether. Please pray for the Smiths and this group as they make this journey. PPC Bible Studies There are various Bible studies offered for both men and women throughout the week.
