2 Our President Debbie Dreckow blessed us with her welcome, then our theme song, The Lord is My Shepherd, opened the preliminary church service. This was lead by our Spiritual Advisor Pastor Milo Velebir. Pastor Milo s address enhanced our knowledge of the scripture Psalm 16:5,..the Lord is my cup, (in Hebrew, Cup means=cup of blessings). This Psalm written by David some 3000 years ago is just as relevant today. David knew where his blessings came from. He knew that God was his cup of blessings. In fact, God wants to share His blessings with us every day of our life. God is a blessing; He is a blessing to us; He is the source of all our blessings. A Civic welcome by Councillor Ron Hoffman highlighted the importance of Christian women coming together and enjoying this fellowship time. Ron shared some local history and emphasized how a Christian influence in local Government is important. Our first Business session approved all LWA Projects for the coming year and our own LWWA Projects accepted were; Ocean Forest Lutheran College, Teen Challenge, Sonshine Radio and Ocean Keys Community church. Our offering of $600 was a unanimous decision to be donated to LCA Mission International. Our Bible study based on Psalm 23 and led by Pastor Milo, again showered us with the blessings of God s truth and wisdom. Starting with verse 1-2, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Why would we not want Him, our Creator? Translated from Hebrew the meaning becomes clearer, I shall lack nothing. We will not be left wanting, when the Lord is our Shepherd. He fulfils all our needs. In God, With God, my soul is satisfied. Complaining over what we don t have is denying our Lord who supplies us with everything we truly need. Our Almighty and Heavenly Father delivers us from all need and want. This is reinforced in Psalm 16:3, He satisfies my soul with every good thing. Psalm 23 was written by David when Saul was pursuing him into the desert to kill him. David knew that God would deliver him, his relationship with God deepened from the turmoil in his life. If our faith is not equivalent to a personal relationship with God it is nothing. When the Lord is our Shepherd the devil cannot touch us. We are in the hand of the Almighty. With His rod and Staff He guides me into safety. God s goodness and mercy will follow me all my life to overflow my cup with the blessings He has to offer so freely and with great love. After a luscious luncheon with the table overflowing with the blessings of nourishment, we were privileged to hear from our President Debbie on her journey through Asia, visiting Cambodia & Malaysia including various LWA Projects. The strength of faith & generosity really shone out through the faces of the loving people she met. So many lack the simple pleasures of life but they are so generous in their sharing of the love of Jesus and their personal journeys in life. A personal highlight was a devotion and prayer time in various languages. Our spot speaker Pamela Heath gave a review of LWA Convention highlights for those ladies that did not attend. This Convention made an impact on many who were there. Our treat in the afternoon came in the form of a skit about the History of Aprons by Eunice Hoffmann and daughter Angela. The memories all came flooding back on how Grandma used her apron everyday for many, many different functions. The Elections followed and our new Executive Committee was approved, President: Rosemary Davidson, Vice-President: Roslyn Zadow, Secretary: Ronda Hahn, Assistant Secretary: Jenny Forrest, treasurer: Carol Pocock, Extra Members: Judith Pech & Shirley Van Niekerk and Spiritual Advisor: Pastor Milo Velebir. After a vote of many thanks and our uplifting service to conclude the day and install the office bearers, we could feel our hearts bursting with joy and overflowing with blessings from the rich spiritual food and the abundance of love from our precious loved ones in Christ. A sumptuous banquet table was laid out for an evening meal with games and prizes hosted by Parkwood Ladies Fellowship, and we all left Convention with Cups of Blessings. The new office bearers Page 2 October 2013

3 FAITH FOR THE FUTURE UNDERWAY NDERWAY! Big milestones have been achieved, St John s Hall has been completely emptied and fenced off and demolition is underway. The church office has been relocated to the back of the church and temporary toilet and kitchen facilities are located at the front of the church, so it is a time of big upheavals. As well the Leederville manse has been sold and Pastor Andre Meyer has relocated to a rental home unit in the suburbs. Once demolition is complete the new building will grow to completion. Thanks to all in the District who have supported this endeavour. Please continue to pray for God s guiding hand to be upon us through the challenges ahead. You can see photos and updates and find out about options for financial support at From the FFF Committee YOUTH SERVICE When: Saturday 26th October Where: Rockingham Lutheran Church cnr Currie St & Swallowtail Parade, Warnbro Come & join us for another great service, great fellowship & great food! The service will start at 6pm and dinner will be straight after the service - food will be available for sale. For all enquiries please contact: See page 4 for more info on the preparation for demolition Meditation: Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. --Hebrews 10:23 (NIV) Quotation: Of myself I can do absolutely nothing as regards my supernatural life; I am not merely weak, I am powerless... I need the stay of God's never-failing Grace, and that I know will be granted to trustful prayer... I cannot count on the strength of my own intentions, or resolutions, or promises; still less can I dare alone to face the dangers and temptations which beset a Christian's life. In short, the whole work of my salvation, from first to last, depends upon God. He can prosper it, and in spite of all my weakness and perversity, He will bring it to a safe end, if I do but cleave steadfastly to Him.... Jean Nicolas Grou( ),The Hidden Life of the Soul London:Ringtons, 1870, p Reflection: Lord, strengthen my wavering allegiance to You. LUTHERAN MEDIA UPDATE Lutheran Media now on YouTube! 4 THINGS ARE MOVING AT ST JOHN S,, PERTH, P After years of planning. discussion and heartache the St John s Redevelopment is underway. Under the leadership of Terry and the help of willing volunteers, two of whom spent 2 weeks packing kitchen items in anticipation the hall was cleared of essential equipment, furniture, and other sundries in double quick time.a 5 day job done in 2 days! The container of goods will be safely stored while building progresses. It is going to be a difficult time for St John s as they put up with the mess of construction; an especially hard time for Simone as she copes with her office duties in very cramped surroundings. Let us all remember the FFF committee who have been labouring for so many years, meeting fortnightly, planning the design and trying to arrange finance, and give thanks for their vision and hard work. During this time of upheaval please pray for St John s members as they continue to meet together for worship on a Sunday and in their special groups Children s Church, Youth, Friendship and Home groups. Pray for visitors too that they will be understanding and an encouragement. So may we now keep our eyes on the future, pray for all those who are involved and give thanks for what has been achieved so far. 5 LCA L LCA LOGO EXPLAINED Taken from Ocean Forest econnect newsletter The cross reminds us that Christ is the centre of the church. The style of the cross suggests that the church is moving forward and outwards. The cross is breaking out beyond the circle; the church's mission is to take the gospel to all people. The cross is gold because Jesus is our king and our greatest treasure. The Southern Cross shows that the Lutheran church belongs in Australasia. It acknowledges God as creator. The red lames represent the power and effect of the Holy Spirit, who creates faith in Jesus and calls us to serve him and point others to him. The three flames form one flame - a symbol of the Holy Trinity. The circle represents our unity in Christ and reminds us that God is eternal. The tagline Our tagline, Where Love Comes to Life, reflects the heart and soul of our mission. In every district and department of the Lutheran Church of Australia, in every congregation and school, in every Australian and New Zealander who identifies as Lutheran, we want to be the place where love comes to life. In other words, we want people to see the love, grace, forgiveness and compassion of Jesus Christ coming to them through every place and every person in our church. JESUS LOVES ME FOR SENIORS Jesus loves me, this I know Though my hair is white as snow Though my sight is growing dim Still He bids me trust in Him. Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me Yes. Jesus loves me the Bible tells me so. Though my steps are oh, so slow. With my hand in His I'll go On through life, let come what may He'll be there to lead the way. Though I am no longer young, I have much which he's begun Let me serve Christ with a smile. Go with other's the extra mile. When the nights are dark and long, In my heart He puts a song, Telling me in words so clear, "Have not fear, for I am near." When my work on earth is done, And life's vic'tries have been won He will take me home above, Then I'll understand his love. I love Jesus, does he know? Have I ever told Him so? Jesus loves to hear me say That I love him every day. 2 Yes, I love Jesus, Yes, I love Jesus, Yes, I love Jesus I tell Him when I pray P Article Deadline 2013 PUBLICATION SCHEDULE Publication Date 30 November 10 December Please your items to: wanews@wa.lca.org.au Current and old WA Lutheran News are available for download from and also from: On the website you can also sign up to get an informing you of when there is a new newsletter ready for download.
