1 Service of Divine Worship Resurrection of the Lord Easter Sunday April 21, 2019 Assemble in God s Name As you Focus For Worship God of empty tombs; God of promises fulfilled; strong, impartial, accepting, loving Creator of all things: roll away the stones that lock us in tombs of prejudice, limited vision, and unbelief. Help us to recognize Christ in our midst, that we may feel your touch, hear your Word, and be moved to respond. Amen. 1 Opening Sentences Luke 23:48-56 * Call To Worship We gather to wait for the mystery of God s movement in the world. In darkness and gloom we wait for God. We wait in loss and fear. We wait in sorrow and regrets for hope. Let us worship and hope in God who will save us even now. Introit Come See My Savior arr. L. Dengler Mixed Ensemble Easter Prayer...Alleluia! For Jesus Christ has Risen. He has Risen indeed! Alleluia! * Hymn No. 123 Jesus Christ Is Risen Today Congregation, Hallelujah Ringers & Brass Prayer of Confession God of everlasting life, we confess that we continue in the ways of death. You have announced your new creation, but we put our hope in former things. You have opened the door of the tomb, but we close our hearts to our neighbors. Forgive us, God of grace. Make us people of the resurrection, proclaiming the destruction of death and the gift of glorious new life in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 2 (Silent Personal Prayer) Assurance of Pardon Everyone who lives by trust in Jesus Christ had already received forgiveness of sins. Christ reigns over death, filling us with newness of life. Rise up! Rejoice! 1 Thanks be to God; in Jesus Christ we are forgiven. * Song of Joy Hymn No. 111 v-1 Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing! Good Christians all, rejoice and sing! Now is the triumph of our King! To all the world glad news we bring: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! * The Peace ( The Peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you. As a sign of reconciliation please share the Peace of Christ with your brothers and sisters.) Proclaim God s Word Prayer For Illumination Living God, help us so to hear your Holy Word that we may truly understand; that understanding, we may believe, and, believing, we may follow in all faithfulness and obedience, seeking your honor and glory in all that we do; through Christ our Lord. "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" I know that my Redeemer lives; What joy this blessed assurance gives! He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives, my ever-living Head. He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save, He lives exalted, throned above. He lives to rule His church in love. He lives to bless me with His love, He lives to plead for me above. He lives my hungry soul to feed, He lives to help in time of need. He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend, He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. He lives, all glory to His name. He lives, my Savior, still the same. What joy this blessed assurance gives. I know that my redeemer lives. End of Life Conversations Luncheon May 19 On Easter we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and with it the promise of our own resurrections. Jesus has defeated evil and death on the cross and God has vindicated him! Alleluia! However, Resurrection does not occur without first suffering death. All of us go down to the grave, though now we sing Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! We still have to prepare for that eventuality. Since we all face the end of our mortal lives, we have to prepare for the years of declining abilities and for the end of our lives. It is hard to think about those things let alone talk about them with our loved-ones. At a luncheon hosted by the Stewardship Committee on May 19 th after worship, Dr. Kai Huang will explain some conversations you need to have with your family and doctors related to health care. Karen Saterfield will have information available about possible ways your estate can continue to support the Lord s work after you are gone and even how you can make charitable contributions for the future while still receiving income today. Please join us for this 90 minutes of food and conversations.
