From the Pastor's Desk The moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. 2 KINGDOMTIED August 29 November 28 (The pulpit attire is Green) We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KING DOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: THE INESCAPABLE GOD The study this quarter focuses on the nature of God as the first person of the Trinity (Father). Its three units look at Old Testament texts from the Exodus narrative and from the poetry of Psalm. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT 1 GOD REVEALS These lessons trace God s emerging relationship with Israel. The first three lessons approach the theme through the biblical stories of Moses: God calls Moses, God discloses the terms of the covenant, and the people lose faith in Moses leadership (and God s). In lesson 4, God forgives Israel, and they vow to keep their covenant promises. THIS WEEK S: GOD S LAW SUSTAINS Psalm 19:7 14 The psalmist praises God and His Law. When we pay attention to God s Laws, they alert us to danger, and when we obey them, they provide us with rewards. GOD PROVIDES REFUGE Psalm 46:1 7 The psalmist declares that God is ever present in times of troubles, providing strength, refuge, and peace. 4 MOBC Immediate Opening Mt. Olive Baptist Church Recruitment Sexton Mt. Olive Baptist Church is seeking a responsible individual to serve as part time Sexton for the church, administrative office and multipurpose building on a scheduled basis. There are no benefits associated with this position. The preferred candidate will have some prior experience. Criminal History Background Check and Drug Screening are required. Duties and Responsibilities: open and close all buildings on the church property in accordance with the church calendar and/or supervisor s instructions to include but not limited to: worship services, bible study, revivals, weddings, funerals, meetings, rehearsals, and other scheduled events. Turn on lights, adjust thermostats, and fill baptismal pool as needed. Upon closing the church, the Sexton will: ensure all entrances to the building(s) are locked and secured; ensure all lights are off; ensure all exterior doors to the church are locked within one hour after the conclusion of the worship service or event; ensure the security system is armed; ensure a Trustee is available to set the alarm if meetings go beyond 9:00p.m.; record name of the person responsible for locking and securing the church after 9:00p.m.; ensure rear gate is closed and locked except for Wednesdays and Sundays and perform other duties as assigned. In the absence of the Sexton, the Assistant Sexton or designee will open and/or close the buildings. Interested church members may pick up an application from the church office or submit a resume in lieu of the application. CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRY It s time once again to celebrate the Fall season at Mt. Olive with the Harvest Fest. The Youth Ministry will have its Annual Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 27th at 7:00pm. What s a Mt. Olive Harvest Fest without cool weather, candy & hot apple cider? Keeping that in mind, the CYM is asking the congregation for candy donations. You may drop off your donations in the box outside the church office. 5 MOBC HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life!
