2 KINGDOMTIED August 28 November 26 (The pulpit attire is Green) 2 We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: TRADITION AND WISDOM The study of this quarter is a survey of Old Testament wisdom literature, as well as an examination of Jesus teachings on wisdom. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: TEACHING AND LEARNING As is characteristic of wisdom literature, these books make little reference to covenant or religious life. Instead, they are focused on human wisdom and transmit lessons learned from experience and tradition. They are the words of a teacher to a student, or a parent to a child, words of wisdom passed on from one generation to another. The first five lessons draw on the wisdom collected by the writers of Proverbs. The next two lessons consider the wisdom of Ecclesiastes. The final lesson comes from the Song of Solomon. THIS WEEK S: WISDOM FOR AGING Ecclesiastes 11:9 12:7, 13 UNIT #1 This lesson gives wisdom about aging. It is not only important to enjoy life while being young, but to remember that we belong to God, live in fear (reverence) of Him, and keep His commandments. NEXT WEEK S: TRADITION AND LOVE October 23, 2011 Song of Solomon 4:8 5:1a Solomon expresses his feelings of love for his bride. He cherishes her love. While traditional interpretations see this book as an allegory of the relationship between God and Israel, and Christ and the church, people today can find encouragement in these words as they contemplate love and commitment. 5 MOBC HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART OCTOBER IS 5 Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life! Like other teens, J wawn enjoys listening to music and other forms of entertainment. He also enjoys drawing and would like to pursue the following interests and hobbies: typing faster, learning to speak Spanish mechanical work and carpentry work. J Wawn has faced many challenges in his life and has worked hard in overcoming them. He needs a real family that won t give up on him and will help him deal with his life in a positive way. He would like to take things slowly with a new family and be able to spend time getting to know the individual family members while learning various skills. J Wawn will thrive in a family that provides consistency and unconditional love and support as he continues to learn how to express his feelings and follow his interests through his teenage years and into adulthood. 6 MOBC PANTRY New Schedule It s free to All! Evangelism Ministry 6 for our community breads, vegetables, and desserts giveaway. Food items may be picked up every Tuesday and Wednesday in the MP Building from 11:00am to 12:00pm, and on Sunday after the 8:00am & 11:00am worship services in the Youth Center Room. You don t have to be a member of Mt. Olive for this give Seniors Ages 60 Plus Free food boxes will be distributed to seniors every third Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:00 pm. The Evangelism Outreach Ministry need volunteers to help with the pickup of food for distribution. Food is being picked up on Tuesday to Sunday. Your help is appreciated if you can lend a helping hand on any of those days. Please see Rev. Frazier for the times of the pick ups.
