2 When we doubt, we are to persist in faith, seeking the truth and opening ourselves to God s grace. To question and doubt is okay, as long as we do not stay in such a state. By persisting in faith and seeking the truth, we can resolve our doubts and grow in our spirituality. If we look through the lens of faith, we can come to a deeper and clearer understanding of the truth, and open ourselves to God s grace to help us see His goodness. The Sunday after Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday! Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when "all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened". (Diary 699) Jesus promised that "The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment."(diary 699) He went on to say "I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy." (Diary 1109) Jesus said to St. Faustina "I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You". (Diary 327) "The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water, which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the cross. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him." (Diary 299) Pope Benedict XVI seems to attribute the greatness of Pope John Paul II to his devotion to Divine Mercy. Jesus Christ is divine mercy in person: Encountering Christ means encountering the mercy of God, said Pope Benedict. The mercy of Christ is not a cheap grace; it does not presume a trivialization of evil. Christ carries in his body and on his soul all the weight of evil, and all its destructive force. He burns and transforms evil through suffering, in the fire of his suffering love. Pope Benedict told the sick people, You who say in silence: Jesus, I trust in you teach us that there is no faith more profound, no hope more alive and no love more ardent than the faith, hope and love of a person who in the midst of suffering places himself securely in God s hands. The Church grants an indulgence for participation in Mercy Sunday devotions. In his new document on the Eucharist, Pope Benedict recommends such indulgences, but emphasizes that the sacraments of confession and the Eucharist are the most important aspects of them. Finally, Pope Benedict used Divine Mercy to sum up our Christian lives. To understand and accept God s merciful love: May this be your commitment, first of all in your families and then in every neighborhood. This Mercy Sunday is a good day to start.

3 Telling Our Story April 14/15, 2012 Volume 3 Issue Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, 6 St. Vital Ave. St. Albert, AB Ph: Fax: Easter Message As we enter the glorious season of Easter, we will also be participating in a 50-day season that extends up to Pentecost Sunday. The General Instructions of the Roman Missal calls this time period the Great Sunday. During this time period, we can collectively respond to the invitation of new life with Jesus that has occurred for billions before us. Mark Link reminds us, that Easter: Easter invites us to love again after our love has been rejected; Easter invites us to trust again after our trust has been betrayed; Easter invites us to believe again after our faith has been shaken. The good news of Easter is that Jesus is alive and in our midst. The good news of Easter is that Jesus wants to work miracles in us. We believe that our schools are invaluable to our students and to the world because they are always open to these invitations through their mission and ministry. A student prayer provides strong evidence of what happens when we are continually open to Jesus living within us: I believe that the Lord has resurrected in each of those who act in caring and show compassion to each of God s children. I am responsible for who I am and what I will become. I trust God has put me on this earth with a definite purpose and a positive solution. We are the light of the world. Let it shine! 4 G. P. Vanier News Father Ignacy will be a frequent and welcome visitor to Vanier School. We celebrated our Resurrection Celebration on Tuesday, April 10 th, and we were pleased to have Fr. Ignacy join us. Fr. Ignacy shared that, if we were characters in the Passion, we should be called to be like the stone that was rolled away and allowed Jesus to reveal himself to others. When we share Jesus' love with others, we reveal Him to those around us. Fr. Ignacy visited Mme. Peacock's class, where he answered approximately twenty students drafted questions. These included questions that were religious in nature; one student asked whether Fr. Ignacy wore jeans. Fr. Ignacy will be visiting the grade 3 and 4/5 Religion classes during the week of April 10th. He will be speaking to the students about the meaning of the Resurrection and the events which follow the passion. Vanier School is very pleased to announce that our students raised $ towards the purchase of four beehives and bees through the Catholic organization CHAVA and over $ for the Holy Childhood Association. Continued Service to Others at Notre Dame During the month of March, students had the opportunity to heighten their awareness of the importance of a healthy heart. Mrs. McKinnon organized stations where students worked on skipping, hopping, and crawling to increase their heart rate and improve their fitness level. Students who participated in the Jump Rope for Heart raised a total of $9, for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In addition, staff donated monies to the Roots of Change program in exchange for a great bowl of French Onion or Tortilla soup, raising $ for this organization. Students also donated to this worthwhile organization in exchange for some Leprechaun delight (green jello). Our grade five students prepared this treat.

5 G.H. Primeau News He is risen Hallelujah, Hallelujah! G.H Primeau School has entered the Easter season filled with renewed hope and joy. Our Lenten journey was filled with blessings! We began with an Ash Wednesday Celebration led by Father Ignacy. We continued with Lenten-themed lessons in our religion classes and were blessed to have Father Ignacy come to our school on two occasions to offer the sacrament of Reconciliation to all religion students who wished to participate. Our entire school participated in a social justice campaign to raise money and awareness for the Roots of Change organization, hosting a used book sale and charity Fridays. Our Easter season began with an all- school celebration focused on our risen Lord. Again Father Ignacy led the celebration with student help with the readings and intentions. We look forward to a wonderful Easter season! Morinville Community High School New Orleans Mission Trip: The Mission team arrived back safely from their trip to New Orleans with many stories and a different outlook on the world around them. The 21 students, 3 staff members, and 3 members of the Oblate Youth Ministry Team travelled to the Ninth Ward, which was not only the poorest area prior to the hurricane, but also the hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina six years ago. The mission team worked on a number of different projects. The team worked tirelessly for five days on three different homes belonging to three very grateful families. The team also had the opportunity to connect with some special elementary students at Cathedral Academy Catholic School and each morning shared stories with the homeless who came for breakfast at the community centre where they were staying. Moreover, the presence of the team also had a tremendous impact by restoring hope and comforting those who were affected by this natural disaster. All members of the mission team described the experience as "life changing." To make this trip possible, the team had to raise $30, to cover travel expenses. The team wishes to thank all of those who donated and offered their support and encouragement. 6 Eastertime A sense of the Season First, we kept the forty days, with praying, fasting and giving alms. Then we celebrated the three days of Christ s passion, dying and rising. Now we delight in the fifty days, with rejoicing, feasting and giving witness! The season of Easter is fifty days long. It is a time of unbridled joy, of exuberant rejoicing. The church tells us, The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or better as one great Sunday. These above all others are days for the singing of the Alleluia. (General Norms for the Liturgical Year and Calendar, #22) Why is Eastertime fifty days? The ancient cultures that gave us the Bible had great respect for numbers. They believed that numbers contained hints about God and the meaning of life. The number seven was thought to contain fullness: There are seven days in the week, according to God s original way of ordering time, creating all that there is and resting. So if you multiply 7 times 7, you have fullness times fullness. But wait! 727 is 49! With God, there is always more more than we can ever imagine. So our holy season of Easter is even more than fullness times fullness. It s fullness times fullness and then some: That s what love is like: more than we can ever imagine. That s what heaven is going to be like: more than we can ever imagine. The fifty days are days for looking for the risen Lord among us, for hearing in each other s stories of rising from the big and small deaths, days when we experience something of Christ s triumphs. That s why we look to the newly baptized, robed in bright new clothes and oily with gladness: At Easter, they died and rose with Christ! Now they take their places with us. Together, like the apostles who were so full of the Spirit that people thought they were drunk, we rush about with good and giddy news: Death is not the last word! Life and love are forever! And slowly, painstakingly, we work together, together with Christ, to change this world into the world to come. Sing Alleluia! 8 Reflection The first Christians These Christians love one another. They never fail to help widows. They save orphans from those who would hurt them. If a man has something, he gives freely to the man who has nothing. If they see a stranger, Christians take him into their homes and treat him as a brother. And if they hear that one of them is in jail, or persecuted for professing the name of their redeemer, they all give him what he needs. If it is possible, they bail him out. If one of them is poor and there isn t enough food to go around, they fast several days to give hum the food he needs. We are dealing with a new kind of person. There is something divine in them. Living With Christ Easter Edition Thank you to Novalis who send the parish the copies of the Living with Christ Easter edition for all of us to enjoy during Holy Week. In the parish we use the Living with Christ edition for week-day Masses as well as the Lodge and Aspen House. If you are interested in having your own copy of living with Christ there are some order forms at the back of the Church. These booklets are great to have at home to read the daily readings and scriptures in your own home, the same we use for daily Mass. If you have any questions feel free to call the parish office. To remind you that there are some CD s and DVD s that are available at the back of the church. The list of the CD s and DVD s is at the back with the titles. They can be borrowed for and week at a time: on a weekend - at the back of the church before or after masses; during the week at the parish office when it s open. There is a binder where you can sign and you take and when return. Next weekend there will be two events happening in our parish that we would like you to pray for. One in Diocesan Convention of CWL. The other is Marriage Preparation Course. We have a list of the couples taking the Marriage Course at the back and we need you to pray for each couple. Please sign up at the back. Please also pray for all ladies taking part of the CWL Convention. Both of these events will be taking place in Rendez-Vous Centre.
